Reality Check By Emeka
At Loma Linda Academy, there are many extracurriculars and clubs. One of them is Reality Check. Reality Check works to provide LLA students with skits and plays that have a valuable meaning in them. Reality Check also happens in the elementary side of campus. The directors are Josefine Garcia and Lauren Jones. Krystal Checo, a writer, said in previous years Reality Check taught drama to the other schools on our campus. They were planning to continue that tradition this year, but, it was derailed by the Corona virus pandemic. Jasmine Garcia, a Reality check director, said Reality Check as an art form. “Reality Check is in my opinion, very artistic. We are all artists using the stage as a platform to share our voice. It’s something that takes a lot of time and practice and every actor pours their heart and soul into what they do and it shows. We have actors practice the art of theatre and drama, and scriptwriters that practice the
art of writing and supply us with their beautiful creations that make our show. We work like a machine together but we’re also all very different.” Jasmine Garcia is heavily inspired by her peers in Reality Check. “I’ve been acting professionally since I was five years old and I’ve always wanted to act in school plays. When I heard that the high school had a drama group I knew I had to join. I loved my first year as an actor so when I heard I was being made one of the directors I flipped. It’s my passion project. Working alongside two very creative minds, Lauren Jones as my co-director and Noah Hernandez as our head writer, pushes me to my creative limits and makes me want to go beyond that. In my mind, they’re a huge inspiration for what we’re about and what we do.” For those looking to possibly get involved next year speak to a Reality Check leader.
