Information

M.Arch, B Sc. (Arch), LAM AG/L 701 Taylor’s University, Malaysia Angie Loke is a registered LAM Part II member (AG/L 701) with distinction in Master of Architecture from Taylor’s University. She has worked in projects of different scales, ranging from playground equipment, interior renovation work, residential architecture and master planning. Her works has attracted local acclaims for its community oriented architecture, published by China Press newspaper and Architectural Malaysia Magazines.

During her Master Degree study in Taylor’s University, she had experience in collaborating with developer and other University. She had collaborated with NUS TTCLC (National University of Singapore, Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre - Asian Architectural and Urban Heritage) for her Portuguese Settlement community project. Besides, she had also collaborated and presented her thesis project to Eco world – BBCC development department which received good response from the respective developer.

After practising in architectural consultancy firms for 3 years, she starts to work with Sunway integrated Properties (SIP) from year 2018 to present day. She has involved in planning, design and development on residential, commercial and offices development that aim to provide healthy, safe, well-connected ecosystem for the communities to live, learn, work and play.

To live between architecture and river:

A space made of glass.

Programme Pavilion

Location River tributary at Masjid Jamek, KL Area Approx. 270 sqft (Size 5m x 5m)

The formalization of the glass wall enclosure is interpreted from the existing site. The building is shaped by the site forces, adopting to it and performs.

^ Short section (nts) The design concept is inspired by Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of the National League for Democracy, a freedom fighter from Burma. She had been arrested in Burma for years. On March 27 1999, while she was in Burma, her husband was died from cancer in London and she was not able to meet him for the last time.

The design concept reflects the ‘freedom’ which Suu Kyi pursuits and ‘tears’ towards her bitter life.

ARCHITECTURE . HIKER’S CLUBHOUSE

Site terrain creates a defined edge to the space within the ‘forest’.

Programme Hiker’s clubhouse Location Penang National park Area Approx. 3,000 sqft The shape of Cannonball plant is interpreted into the facade design and spatial organization of the clubhouse. The setting of the clubhouse follows the natural site contour to enhance the feeling of hiking within the ‘forest’ and to minimize the impact of cutting existing trees. The independent building massing creates ‘in-between spaces’ along the hiking trails that allows visual and social interaction.

Programme Enzyme workshop Location Taylor’s Lakeside Univeristy, Selangor Area Approx. 3,000 sqft Enzyme is formed by process of food decomposition and it can be used for washing, drinking, planting fertiliser.

The design concept of ‘Enzyme Workshop’ is inspired from the idea of ‘decomposition’ by introducing large, flexible space which can be broken down to serve different functions and activity or intimacy.

The project involved renovation and upgrading of an existing Hotel. The Hotel is situated at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, overlooking Jalan Alor, a neighbourhood whose charm intensifies as the night falls. The Hotel acts as an celebrating destination after a day of explority the city and the night market at Jalan Alor.

It sets in a bustling commercial urban area which is 2 km away from the landmark Petronas Towers and 3 km

away from the Central Market of Kuala Lumpur. Besides, the walkingdistance from Plaza Rakyat MRT Station and Bukit Bintang MRT station are less than 15 minutes.

In addition to the contemporary hotel rooms design feature, it also provide free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffeemaking facilities, as well as en suite bathrooms with city views.

^ The core spaces of hotel: the lobby and resident cafe are interconnected to attract city travellers with its floor-to-ceiling glass wall.

The Hotel is located within 200-600m away from Petaling Street Flea Market, Historical Central Market and Merdeka Square in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

24-hours front desk currency exchange, laundry services and lugagge storage are provided in the Hotel for city travellers.

ARCHITECTURE . COMMUNITY CENTRIC LEARNING SPACE

Participatory design to connect the Orang Asli traditions, culture and values.

Programme Home-building learning space Location Kampung Orang Asli Ulu, Gopeng Area Approx. 8,500 sqft Home-building Learning Space is located beside Gopeng waterfall river where villagers love to gather and sing their cultural songs. The river also serves their daily needs such as washing and bathing. It is an inter-learning space that introduces contemporary architecture ideas from the visitor and yet preserving the origin culture of the traditional Asli house by using local materials found at site, such as Bamboo.

Greenery is injected as points in urban fabric like process of acupuncture in Chinese medical field to regenerate run-down areas, which indirectly introduces more green public spaces for the local community. Programme such as Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy and Urban Farming are integrated into the building to benefit and help urban poors. These people get the chance to involve in self-learning activities in the building as well.

The proposed project is initiated for social aggregation, located in the Portuguese Settlement of Malacca. It explores on the ‘Kristang community’ which has been complicated by the issues of class tension, politics and modern economic development. The notion of multi-variant spaces creates social interaction space and positive economic opportunity for the out-stationed young Kristang people to come back to live, work and play in the settlement.

Lightweight weatherboard cladding are widely used at the first floor facade to encourage ventilation for living area. Timber weatherboard also used as floor finish at the mezzanine floor of Family unit.

Steel roof with 200mm fiberglass insulation panel to reduce heat gain into the building. While the I-Beam as main structure to support the large spanning roof. Rainwater is collected with 1m width roof gutter, then direct to collective tank in basement by gravity force. Water is filtered and pump to storage tank for flushing and landscaping.

‘Regrettably, you cant enter the site to commemorate the 283 passengers and 15 cabin crews of MH17 Flight.’ The memorial island is opened to emotional experience, individual interpretation and personal contemplation. To approach it, the visitors will have to go by ferry or water taxi from the Amsterdam Central ferry station. It is designed based on a 120m x 120m square shape with various memorial features.

The Pillars, the 298 unbalanced memorial pillars. Each 12m high pillar from water level is engraved with the name of a victim, placed randomly.

Roughness on the Pillar diminishes gradually towards the sky. Visitors are encouraged to travel to the Pillars by small boat and search for the Pillar of their loved one; Experience through the intimate canal space in chaotic atmosphere and form our own memory and emotions.

The Pillars also act as wave breakers, reminding us that we have strength and coping skills that could get us through tough times; Face and resolve the unbearable feelings.

Symmetry / Axis The exact corresponce of form on opposite sides of a dividing line about a centre or axis. The imaginary straight line gives an impression of balance.

Panoptican The organization of the building is a mixture of radial and linear that allow permanent visibility for the warden.

Courtyard The blocks are linked to a common area: courtyard with natural lighting and natural ventilation.

Repetitive Repetitive cell made for high efficiency and discipline spatial arrangement.

Surveillance Every external corner of the building are watched by the warden from the watch tower at the boundary wall (9 units).

Boundary wall The wall is painted murals by one of the inmate and its recorded in the Guinnes Book of World Records.
