A LODDON cafe is closing its doors today with owners saying they will not risk fines for failing to police customer vaccination status. Dee Slatter and Lindee Frost of Boort’s Godfrey and Bear made the call on Monday, a fortnight after first voicing concern at the impost of the State Government’s vaccine mandate on business. other businessman, Wedderburn industrial Geoff Burnside, fears the vaccine mandate will impact the region’s economy. Dee and Lindee announced: “It is with very heavy hearts that we feel we have been left with no alternative but to close our doors for the time being. “Our last day of trading will be Thursday October 14: after this
time we would be required to actively ‘police’ the public health orders in relation to vaccine mandates for staff and in the foreseeable future for our customers, or face significant fines,” their statement said. “We hope that one day we will be open again where we can unconditionally serve and employ all people regardless of their

The State Government vaccination mandate starts from tomorrow as part of its roadmap to more freedom. On Sunday, the Government announced 15 trial sites for the ‘double vaccination economy”
in six municipalities. The twoweek trial includes hotels in Wycheproof and Avoca, Bendigo’s art gallery, a gym and a church and will be followed by a second phase of trials. However, details of the second phase and its duration have not been released. The Government was approached for comment. And in changes to the border bubble arrangement, Loddon communities have been returned to the zone.
