Back2Market Removals and Clearance Specialists Thinking about having a Clearance can seem like a daunting prospect. How do you go about it? Who do you choose? How do you know which companies are reputable? Every day you can see posts on Social Media where people are asking to pay someone to do a ‘tip run’ for them. Although some people who respond to these posts will be licenced and insured, many won’t be. Asking for someone to provide you a service in this way doesn’t give you the information you need – who you are dealing with, whether they have got a Waste Carriers Licence and are they insured. You might ring round a few Companies and get quotes over the phone. But, how can anyone quote for a clearance without seeing it? There may be items that can be sold on or recycled which should be offset against the cost. You may consider one of the few Companies that are offering fixed price Clearances based on size, weight and time. But, do you know what 1000kg looks like? Would you know how much time that’s going to take to clear? Okay, the difference can either be paid or credited back on the day, but it’s a lot to work out, and you pay up front. Plus, again there will be no allowance for items of commercial value. The best way to arrange a Clearance is to call Companies and ask them to come and visit, to provide you with an accurate quotation by actually seeing what needs clearing. Back2Market Removals and Clearance Specialists provide free, no obligation quotations for all of our Clearance and Removals Services. We pay for quality clearances, and offset costs of clearing rubbish/waste where there are also items that do have a commercial market.

The team at Eyetech Sharon: Sharon started working for Eyetech about 23 years ago. She therefore has a wealth of optical knowledge and experience. Sharon manages the administration side within Eyetech ensuring that the procedures required by the NHS are followed precisely. Her silky smooth telephone voice has a calming influence on the anxious client and Sharon is well known for her perky character and lively laugh!!! Be prepared for a warm and friendly greeting whenever you enter Eyetech. Alex: Alex has worked for Eyetech for about 15 years. Like Sharon she has acquired a wealth of optical knowledge. Alex is a quiet, conscientious and the most caring of people. She always gives fully of her time to empathise with people with problems (optical or not) and to offer help whenever she can. Her calm demeanour helps everyone else to stay relaxed when things might be getting frantic. Whilst Rome burns, Alex will make you a nice cup of tea. Sandy: Sandy has been with us for 9 years and has recently increased her hours. As a previous Optical Laboratory Manager she has now taken on the responsibility of our NEW remote edging facility. This enables a chosen frame to be traced, with the lens shape being sent online to the lens manufacturer (Nikon at this stage). The lenses are remotely cut and edged to our measurements and returned to Eyetech where the frame and lenses are assembled in practice. This facility can halve the time it takes us to supply spectacles and will be a real benefit to our clients.

Do you or a relative need help at home? “Oh I’m not sure I can’t remember” is one of the things we hear almost daily at Hazel Home Care. More and more people are struggling with memory problems than ever before and it’s not just in the elderly. We have clients that are in their 50’s and 60’s that are needing support at home because they might forget appointments or sometimes even forget to make a meal and eat it. They might be physically able and present themselves to the world as perfectly capable, but behind closed doors they could be forgetting to wash themselves or drink enough or keep up with the day to day running of the house. Memory issues or Dementia/Alzheimer’s can be silent conditions that leave people often feeling confused and alone. Its very hard to recognise in yourself and often it gets hidden from family members as clients don’t want to be seen as “losing it” or “going crazy”. We all do it from time to time did I leave the oven on? or what have I come in here for? phrases which I say myself often! But it gets difficult if a person or family member lives alone, and these things can become a safety concern, putting things in the microwave and getting distracted or leaving toast in the toaster for too long, forgetting to feed the cat or feeding him twice! We have a great deal of experience with clients that are struggling with their memory. At Hazel Home care we respect our Client’s independence and help them to keep their dignity when it comes to remembering things. We will not ask you why you can’t remember that conversation we just had and we won’t get annoyed that you have told us that story before. We won’t embarrass you by pointing out that you can’t remember things. We listen, we care and we try to find ways that will help you stay at home and manage tasks with a little help from us, and give peace of mind to those that worry about you.

Give your old computer a much needed boost! An old saying regarding IT provision went something like this, “Reliable, Fast, Cheap - choose two”. The point of course being that you’d have to spend a lot of dosh to make your system fast and reliable. With the advent of Solid State Disks (SSD) I think this saying is now truly outdated. If your Windows laptop is a few years old, or even new from a budget range, you’ll probably find that the hard drive inside is mechanical. The hard drive is the component in your computer that stores data even when your computer is switched off. For many years mechanical hard drives were widely used in both Apple and PC computers. In most circumstances, the hard drive was the bottleneck; hard drives struggled to keep up with the numerous demands your computer puts on them. More acutely, mechanical hard drives are prone to failure. Some years ago the new SSD technology emerged. SSDs have a much faster read write speed than mechanical disks. Unlike mechanical disks, SSDs have no moving parts and are less prone to failure. Unfortunately, as with all new technology, SSDs came at a high price and only big businesses fitted them in their server computers. Nowadays, SSDs are affordable for most of us. A 120 Gigabyte SSD will set you back less than £50. Once the SSD is fitted in your machine it will feel much faster than when new. Start up times will dramatically speed up, your computer will be quieter and so much quicker in every way. Some of the high end SSDs, only 20% or so more expensive than the average SSD now come with a 10 year manufacturers warranty! This will give you some peace of mind on just how much more reliable than a mechanical disk your new SSD will be. Not that you shouldn’t backup backups are always a good idea; the possibility of having to use your backup is significantly reduced when you upgrade your computer with an SSD. SSDs represent the best way to inject a new lease of life in nearly all older computers. A worthwhile investment!

Elbowing pain away We rely on our arms and hands for a massive range of everyday tasks and movement. Often it’s only when a problem occurs – especially around the elbow - that we really notice how hard they normally work. The elbow is an essential lever joint. When it is painful or stiff, it makes using arms and hands problematic – and greatly impacts our life and ability to do so many things. Activities such as opening jars, carrying or holding, gripping a kettle and even having a cup of tea can become bothersome and painful. Problems with the elbow are often associated with repetitive strain injuries. We’re familiar with this term around sustained use of a computer – and perhaps a mobile phone too. But it can also be caused by turning the elbow in a twisting motion or by the effort of using it for prolonged control. This includes carrying a bag or briefcase and, of course, playing tennis or golf, hence the terms tennis elbow and golf elbow. These conditions create areas of tension in the forearms and the inner and outer aspects of the elbow. How can elbow strain be relieved? Massage and acupuncture can help, also wearing a support band that holds the area tight, especially whilst doing activities that may aggravate it. When these treatments cannot help, doctors often use steroid injections or even surgery to cut the tendon and reattach it slightly closer to the forearm. However, a more modern and very effective treatment for elbow strain is Shockwave therapy. This treatment is sometimes available at larger hospitals and is proven to have great success in treating elbow conditions - often in only 3-6 sessions. The Somerset Health Practice, conveniently located at the Glastonbury doctors’ surgery, now offers privately this state of the art Shockwave therapy, which pulses non-invasive waves at the affected area. At the clinic, patients are invited to have a free assessment and are offered the reassurance of personal attention and continuity of care by Matthew Jackson, an expert musculo-skeletal professional. More information: or call 01458 836152/3 – or 01458 860392 for a free assessment

Somerset Community Foundation (SCF), who manages the fund, is encouraging applications from smaller groups that run on less than £50,000 per year. The grants will be ‘unrestricted’, which means they can be used to pay for ongoing running costs, and the deadline to apply is Friday 22 February, 2019. If you run a business and would like to increase the impact of your charitable giving by up to 80% the Somerset Fund may also be of interest to you.

The Glastonbury Body Art Event For the second year, Glastonbury became the backdrop for an amazing Body Art Event. Artists from all over the UK created living, breathing, walking pieces of art to the theme of Gods and Goddesses. The, now annual, event is organised by artisan Stephen Duross and body painter Mel Broom and raises funds for local charity Children’s World.   During the afternoon, Glastonbury Town Hall was opened to the public and hundreds visited to see the works of art in the process of being created. The highlight of the Event was an evening catwalk, showcasing the stunning creations, which take each artist six to eight hours to create. Followed by a party for all attending, including the models and artists. Tickets for the evening sold out and it was standing room only for the awe-inspiring show.  Next year’s event is already being planned, with a slightly different take, so keep an eye out for details nearer the time. The Glastonbury Body Art Event really is not to be missed!  If you were unable to attend in person this year and would still like to support Children’s World, the charity is very much in need of funds to keep them

going. They provide unique performance based work for children of all abilities and £10,000 is the magic number they need to raise by June, to stay open. Please follow this link to The Children’s Worlds’ Localgiving page with more info. and a donation platform:

Somerset Sight was established in 1919 to support service personnel returning from World War 1 with eye injuries. Our services for people with sight loss continue to be in great demand 100 years later. We match local volunteers with sight impaired people for friendship and company and often help with reading and correspondence. However brave and independent one is substantial sight loss increases feelings of loneliness and isolation, even the simplest things such as reading the post, making a cup of tea or going for a walk are made extremely difficult. If you have a little time to spare to visit someone please contact me, visits can be flexible around your own life, we particularly need volunteers in the Bridgwater, Burnham on Sea, North Petherton and Highbridge areas. You need no particular skills other than a desire to help and an enjoyment of one on one company, many of our 200 volunteer visitors find that visiting very much enhances the quality of their own lives too. As the local Co-ordinator I would match you to a local person and introduce you to them. We then arrange the visits to take place on a fortnightly basis, visits can be easily organised to fit around your own life commitments.
