2016 Tour of Homes Sponsors Top sponsors of the 2016 Milton Tour of Homes recently received recognition from the Friends of the Milton Library (FOML) for their support of the Tour which raised money for the organization and its outreach programs. FOML is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the financial support and program enhancement of the Milton Library. The top-level Tour sponsors each received their own engraved gold leaf that will be placed on the Library’s Giving Tree located in the building’s atrium.

Holiday Tour of Homes was very successful and we hope our sponsors, and others in the community, will support the Tour once again this year so we can raise even more money for these valuable FOML programs.” More than $20,000 was raised from the Tour in 2016 and went toward supporting some of the library programs, including: STEM and STEAM programs, Lego Club, Astronomy Club program supplies, chess boards and timers, Teen Advisory Board meetings, Youth Book Club, Wildlife Program, Children’s Music Performance, Atlanta Audubon Youth programs, Summer Reading, as well as capital items such as additional shelving and chairs.

“This allowed us to say thank you once more to our generous sponsors,” said Marsha Spear, Friends of the Milton Library board member and 2017 Milton Tour of Homes chair. “The

Adult Volunteers of the Year

Kimberly Snoddy George and Joyce Kramar

300 Hours Volunteers

The 2016 Harriet Macklin

Adult Volunteer of the Year Awards:

Joyce Kramar {Milton Library } and Dr. Maria Mickens {Adamsville-Collier Heights Library} Joyce has served over 525 hours since 2015 and has worked closely with nominators Jason Blackstock and Ellen Baxter who had this to share, “Joyce has continuously exhibited a strong dedication and love of volunteering. She comes in with a great outlook and gets straight to work helping. She is quick to learn new skills, follows directions, helps patrons and takes initiative for new projects- to the point that anytime we have a special project, she is our first thought.

has helped stamp, label and relocate so much of the collection, she might know it better than we do. Joyce tackles everything with skill, heart and dedication.” Congratulations Joyce.” Harriet Macklin was a dedicated library advocate, Friend’s President and volunteer from 20082016. She served over 2,000 hours at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History and at the Central Library. She passed away one month after participating in the Grand Reopening of AARL last fall and is missed dearly by patrons, staff and volunteers. We are grateful to honor her legacy through this award and we are truly grateful to have her three sisters, Julie Dixon, Shirley McDade and Vivian Reid, with us today to help present the awards.

Joyce comes in twice a week, but she’ll rearrange her schedule to come in to finish a project. She has been a huge help with shifting the collection, relabeling items and processing all new items Milton has received this year. We would not have been able to get everything out on the shelves for the public as fast as we did without her help. She

shelves for the teen reading room, replacement caterpillar stools for the children’s story room, a subscription to BookPage magazine, a mobile laptop for staff use for library card registration and summer reading registration, and additional support for the Build a Better World Summer Reading Program.

We are able to do this through our fundraising efforts with our book sales and special events.

This would not be possible without the assistance of a very dedicated group of volunteers and donors. Thank you for your continued support.

Because of your generous support, the FOML has funded multiple programs and speakers for children and adults throughout the year, a new STEM Makerspace, additional 8
