How Thai massage helps relieve stress & tension

If you’ve ever had a truly authentic Thai massage, you will have found that it can work wonders on tight, knotted muscles and layers of tension in your body.

To understand why, we need to look at how muscles work and how tension arises.

You’ve probably seen pictures of skeletal muscles portrayed as bundles of fibres. Each fibre is made up of a huge number of muscle cells, which contain thousands of tiny, stacked structures called sarcomeres.

These work like microscopic ratchets during contraction which release to relax the muscle. Sometimes, this ratchet mechanism doesn’t completely release, causing the muscle to retain tension. This can result in those uncomfortable knots and tightness!

By manipulating the muscle tissue, Thai massage helps to release all those stuck ratchets, which then eases the tension and discomfort you’ve been feeling.
