Deciphering Interior Decor

The Core Principles You Need to Know

Are you lost in the maze of home décor trends which proliferate like mushrooms across social media? Let us have a look at some of the key directional design themes that are shaping home interiors and some simple and cost-effective but deliciously pretty ways to achieve them in your own place.

Whilst many of us are semi-addicted to scrolling through Instagram or whiling away the hours on TikTok, the constant barrage of information can be overwhelming if all we want is some inspiration for decorating our living room or kitchen. Do we go minimal or maximal, Barbiecore or Cottagecore, Gothic or Fairycore, Scandi-chic or Forestcore; can we even spot the difference between them?

The advantage of social media is also its downside, as the breathtakingly swift influx of new ideas means so-called trends can come and go before they’ve even taken hold and it’s not always easy to sort the wheat from the chaff. Sifting through the plethora of ‘core’ trends is a job in itself, which is why the style pundits at Stars for Europe (SfE) take some of the scrolling work off your hands. With this handy guide to the most desirable décor of seasons past, present and future, you can decide for yourself what will be trending in your castle this Christmas.

Cottage-core

This isn’t a particularly new one but it’s proved to be a keeper, as the desire for an exquisite English country cottage and garden continues to ride high on people’s wish lists. Think flowers, baskets and real Christmas trees for this gorgeous design trend, which has been around for enough seasons to merit being called ‘evergreen’. An abundance of flowers – whether they’re cultivated, wild, potted, cut, dried or on prints – is key to this theme, along with dainty ceramics, home-baked cakes, a subtle rustic feel and vintage accents. Curtains and curtains, linen and lace, pottery and pets. Granny was right all along!

Gothic-core

Not all fairies are good, don’t you know, but if you’re inclining more towards the impish and Gothic, there are ways and means of achieving your goals with plants. You just need to darken your palette and introduce some twisted shapes, silhouettes and skulls, witches brooms and lanterns, copper and iron, jewel-coloured candles and stained-glass.

If you want to go all out for Gothic - if only for Halloween - you’ll need velvet curtains, throne-like armchairs, Victorian-era art, terrariums and tassels. Skulls, crossbones and blood-red blooms can be introduced to your turreted castle whenever you’re ready to invite Dracula over your threshold!

Fairy-core

Once you’ve gone full-on forest, it’s inevitable that the little people will come calling, especially if you’ve already got the mushrooms in place. This is a great opportunity to scour Etsy, Folksy and The British Craft Directory for those magical little trinkets and fairy-friendly artwork that will form the core of this fairy-focused theme. Indulge your passion for Cicely Mary Barker, Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac for a classic, upscale twist on this charming trend.

Don’t forget that flower fairies need flowers, whether they’re attached to plants or cut and arranged into posies. This is also a good opportunity to bring in dried flowers and other natural materials such as pine cones and conkers, in a further blending of forest with fairy-core.

Forest-core

This is a rustic relation of cottage-core which is even stronger on natural charm and organic beauty. The gnarly texture of wood, wicker and unglazed stoneware will serve as a backdrop for the abundance of foliage and foraged items that will bring the forest to your home. Green walls, trailing plants, mushroom motifs, herbs in the kitchen, stags, squirrels, rabbits and birds – it doesn’t take Einstein to work out what this charming trend is all about. Nature lovers rejoice!

Dopamine Décor

If you’re yearning for maximum pleasure, dopamine décor is just what the doctor ordered. It also fits in perfectly with the Dulux Colour of the Year 2025, which is True Joy, an uplifting yellow. Like many of the other trends mentioned here, Dopamine Décor does rely on green, which is the most soothing colour of the eye.

Choose beautiful flowering plants and you’ll get a double whammy of serene green and the feel-good vibes of complementary pinks, yellows and other vibrant hues. This trend, like many of the others mentioned here, also dovetails perfectly with the ongoing crafting craze, for what could be more relaxing and pleasurable than flower arranging and some gentle DIY with a festive twist!

Barbie-core

Barbie might have zoomed out of the toy box and across the silver screen last year, but for those who can’t stop thinking pink she is still the number one girl! There can be too much of a good thing and we don’t want pink walls just yet, but there can never be too many pink flowers. Gorgeous hot pink poinsettias hit the Barbie-core spot without being overkill and they’re also softer than traditional red when you want vivid warmth but aren’t ready to channel Santa.

Scandi Chic

Last but definitely not least, Scandinavian lifestyle trends such as Hygge, Pelargonsjuka and a chic rustic minimalism continue to be extremely popular. Cool blues merge with cosy creams and yellow, blonde wood and minimalist accents in natural materials in this chic trend that’s as easy to achieve in urban environments and smaller spaces as it is in spacious lofts and chalets. Poinsettias are right at home in Scandi-style décor, which optimises bright sunlight that sparkles off snow for maximum effect.

Sustainable Landscaping

Eco-Friendly Ideas for Your Garden

Creating a beautiful garden that is also environmentally friendly is a rewarding endeavour. Sustainable landscaping not only benefits the environment but also creates a healthier, more resilient outdoor space. By incorporating eco-friendly practices into your garden design, you can reduce your carbon footprint, conserve resources, and support local wildlife. Read on to get inspiration about eco-friendly ideas for sustainable landscaping that can transform your garden.

1 Water Conservation Techniques

Water conservation is a key component of sustainable landscaping. Implementing efficient irrigation systems and water-saving practices can significantly reduce water usage in your garden. Drip irrigation and soaker hoses deliver water directly to the roots of plants, minimising evaporation and runoff. Installing rainwater harvesting systems, such as rain barrels, allows you to collect and store rainwater for garden use.

2 Soil Health and Composting

Healthy soil is the foundation of a sustainable garden. Improving soil health enhances plant growth, reduces the need for chemical inputs, and supports a diverse soil ecosystem. One of the best ways to enrich your soil is by adding organic matter through composting. Composting converts kitchen scraps, garden waste, and other organic materials into nutrientrich compost that can be incorporated into the soil - which increases water retention, and provides essential nutrients to plants.

3 Choosing Native Plants

One of the most effective ways to create a sustainable garden is by choosing native plants. Native plants naturally occur in your region and are adapted to the local climate and soil conditions. They require less water, fertilisers, and pesticides compared to non-native species, making them easier to maintain.

4 Energy-Efficient Garden Lighting

Garden lighting enhances the beauty and functionality of your outdoor space, but it can also consume a significant amount of energy. Switching to energy-efficient lighting options helps reduce your carbon footprint and lowers energy costs. Solarpowered lights are an excellent choice for sustainable gardens, as they harness energy from the sun and require no electricity and LED lights are another energy-efficient option that uses less power and has a longer lifespan than traditional incandescent bulbs.

5 Sustainable Hardscaping

Recycled and locally sourced materials are sustainable choices for hardscaping. Reclaimed wood, recycled concrete, and natural stone can be used to create beautiful and durable garden features. Incorporating sustainable hardscaping not only benefits the environment but also adds unique character to your garden.

6 Minimising Chemical Use

Reducing or eliminating chemical pesticides and fertilisers is crucial for sustainable landscaping. Chemical inputs can harm beneficial insects, contaminate water sources, and degrade soil health. Instead, opt for organic and natural alternatives to manage pests and fertilise your garden.

7 Edible Landscaping

Edible landscaping integrates food-producing plants into your garden design, providing fresh, organic produce while enhancing the beauty of your outdoor space. Growing your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs reduces the need for store-bought produce, lowering your carbon footprint and ensuring a fresh supply of healthy food.

8 Creating Wildlife Habitats

Designing your garden to support local wildlife is a rewarding way to contribute to biodiversity and create a vibrant ecosystem. Include features that attract birds, bees, butterflies, and other beneficial creatures. Planting a variety of flowering plants ensures a continuous supply of nectar and pollen throughout the seasons.

9 Reducing Lawn Size

Reducing the size of your lawn can lower your environmental impact. Consider replacing turf with ground cover, wildflower meadows, or xeriscaping (landscaping with drought-tolerant plants). Ground cover like clover, thyme, and creeping Jenny require less water and mowing than traditional grass.

Sustainable landscaping involves making mindful choices that benefit the environment, conserve resources, and create a healthy, resilient garden. Embrace these sustainable practices to enjoy a beautiful, thriving garden that contributes positively to the environment and provides a peaceful retreat for you and your family.

A Windsor Castle Christmas

Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, becomes even more magical during Christmas. Steeped in history and tradition, the festive season transforms this royal residence into a winter wonderland, captivating visitors with its grandeur, charm, and timeless holiday spirit. The combination of medieval architecture, royal history, and the beauty of a classic British Christmas creates a truly enchanting atmosphere.

A Royal Tradition

Christmas at Windsor Castle has been a significant tradition for centuries. Since Queen Victoria, monarchs have celebrated the festive season here, creating a deep connection between the royal family and the holiday. Each year, the castle’s State Apartments are lavishly decorated to reflect the rich heritage of the British monarchy, while embracing the joy and warmth of Christmas.

The centrepiece of the Christmas display is the magnificent tree in St George’s Hall. A towering Nordmann fir, sourced from Windsor Great Park, the royal estate’s grounds, it is elegantly adorned with hundreds of ornaments, lights, and royal-themed decorations. The twinkling lights and meticulously arranged baubles bring a warm glow to the historic hall, where generations of royalty have hosted banquets and ceremonies. The sheer scale of the tree against the backdrop of medieval stonework creates a breathtaking sight, filling visitors with festive cheer.

St George’s Chapel and Christmas Services

St George’s Chapel, an iconic part of Windsor Castle, plays a central role during the Christmas season. This Gothic masterpiece, where many royal weddings and funerals have taken place, hosts special Christmas services, including Midnight Mass. The chapel’s rich history and stunning architecture, combined with the solemnity of the service, make for an unforgettable experience.

During this time, visitors can attend the chapel’s Christmas carol concerts, where the choir fills the space with angelic harmonies. The sound of the choir resonating through the grand arches creates a spiritual and deeply moving atmosphere, reminding everyone of the true meaning of the season. Attending a service or concert in such a historically significant place is both a cultural and religious highlight of Christmas at Windsor Castle.

Festive Decorations and Historic Rooms

Beyond St George’s Hall, the entire castle is festooned with Christmas decorations. The State Apartments, including the grand Waterloo Chamber and the opulent Crimson Drawing Room, are adorned with garlands, wreaths, and festive floral arrangements.

These rooms, which have hosted monarchs, prime ministers, and foreign dignitaries, sparkle with the added magic of Christmas. Each decoration is carefully curated to complement the room’s character, blending modern festive elements with the castle’s traditional grandeur.

Visitors can also see displays of royal Christmas cards from the past, offering a glimpse into how the royal family has celebrated Christmas over the years. These personal touches bring a sense of warmth and intimacy, as even within the grand setting of Windsor Castle, the essence of Christmas remains the same—a time for family, love, and togetherness.

A Timeless Christmas Experience

Christmas at Windsor Castle is more than just a display of decorations; it’s an experience that brings the magic of history, tradition, and festivity together in a way few places can. As the royal residence is illuminated by holiday lights, visitors are transported to a bygone era while still feeling the joy and spirit of a modern Christmas celebration.

A Holiday Escape to the Peak District

The Peak District, a stunning national park in England, transforms into a magical winter wonderland during Christmas.

Nestled between Derbyshire, Cheshire, and Yorkshire, the region’s rugged landscapes, rolling hills, and picturesque villages are dusted with snow, creating a festive and tranquil atmosphere.

Villages such as Castleton, Bakewell, and Buxton come alive with holiday charm. Castleton, in particular, is famous for its twinkling Christmas lights and decorated shops lining the narrow streets. The village’s caverns, like the Blue John and Speedwell Caverns, offer unique underground tours illuminated for the season, enhancing the experience.

Walking trails through the snow-covered moors and limestone cliffs, like the Mam Tor and Stanage Edge routes, offer breathtaking views. Hiking through frost-

kissed landscapes with the fresh, crisp air heightens the peacefulness of the region. Many paths are quieter at this time of year, providing solitude amid the beauty of nature.

Traditional pubs with crackling fires serve hearty meals and mulled wine, providing warmth after a day outdoors. Local markets, especially the Bakewell Christmas Market, offer festive goods, handmade crafts, and seasonal treats like mince pies and mulled cider, bringing a traditional English Christmas vibe to the region.

For a cultural touch, historic sites such as Chatsworth House are decorated splendidly for Christmas, with themed rooms, dazzling lights, and festive markets. The estate’s gardens sparkle under fairy lights, while Christmas events draw visitors into the festive spirit.

The Peak District at Christmas is the perfect blend of natural beauty and festive cheer, offering tranquillity, adventure, and cosy moments by the fire. Whether for hiking, exploring charming villages, or soaking in Christmas markets, it’s an idyllic holiday escape.

A Greek Odyssey

Chapter One: The Parthenon

The Parthenon, perched atop the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, is one of the most iconic symbols of ancient Greek civilization. Built between 447 and 432 BCE, this architectural marvel was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the city’s patron goddess and the embodiment of wisdom, warfare, and craftsmanship. The Parthenon was envisioned by Pericles, the Athenian statesman who sought to make Athens the cultural and intellectual beacon of the ancient world. Architects Iktinos and Kallikrates, along with the sculptor Phidias, worked to create a structure that would celebrate the glory of the gods and the people of Athens, and the result was a temple unlike any other of its time.

Constructed entirely from Pentelic marble, the Parthenon displays the epitome of Doric architecture, known for its sturdy columns, simple capitals, and harmonious proportions. Yet, it also features elements of the Ionic style, such as a continuous frieze around the inner chamber, or the cella, illustrating the Greeks’ love for balance and blending different influences.

The building itself measures exactly 30.9 by 69.5 meters and has eight columns on each end and seventeen along each side, a layout slightly wider than typical Doric temples. This strategic

arrangement, combined with subtle refinements like curved stylobates and inward-leaning columns, created an illusion of perfect straight lines and emphasised the Parthenon’s grandeur.

One of the most captivating features of the Parthenon was the colossal statue of Athena that once resided within the cella. Crafted by Phidias from gold and ivory, the statue was over 12 meters (40 feet) tall and depicted the goddess armoured and holding a small statue of Nike, the goddess of victory, in her hand.

Surrounding the statue were intricate sculptures that adorned the temple, each telling stories from Greek mythology and celebrating Athenian ideals. The east pediment portrayed Athena’s miraculous birth from Zeus’s head, while the west pediment depicted her contest with Poseidon over the patronage of Athens. Alongside, the 160-meter-long Ionic frieze showcased the Panathenaic procession, an annual event where citizens would honour Athena with sacrifices, music, and dance.

↓ The Parthenon at the Acropolis in Athens, as photographed in 1911

More than just a temple, the Parthenon symbolised the strength and cultural superiority of Athens. Built during the height of the city’s Golden Age, it served as a testament to the Athenians’ artistic skill, mathematical precision, and philosophical insight. Yet, the Parthenon has not been untouched by the ravages of time.

In the 5th century, it was converted into a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and later, during Ottoman rule, it became a mosque. In 1687, a Venetian artillery strike ignited the gunpowder stored within, severely damaging the structure and scattering its sculptures. Many of these, including the famed Elgin Marbles, were taken to the British Museum in the 19th century, sparking an ongoing debate over their rightful home.

Today, the Parthenon stands as a cultural and historical monument, symbolising Ancient Greece’s enduring legacy and the city’s devotion to wisdom, beauty, and democracy. Restoration efforts have aimed to preserve its structural integrity and reveal its original splendour, allowing millions of visitors to marvel at the Parthenon’s symmetry, proportions, and artistry. It remains an architectural marvel and a powerful reminder of the innovative spirit that flourished in Ancient Greece, shaping Western civilization and inspiring generations with its timeless beauty and the ideals it represents. Chapter Two of A Greek Odyssey next time!

Christmas Markets

A Festive Feast for the Senses

Christmas markets are a beloved holiday tradition that captures the warmth, wonder, and community spirit of the festive season. Originating centuries ago in Germany and Austria, they have since spread across Europe and beyond, becoming cherished annual events in cities and towns across the UK. Today, British Christmas markets are vibrant celebrations filled with lights, aromas, music, and countless stalls offering everything from unique gifts to delicious seasonal treats. Here’s what makes these markets so magical and why they’re an unmissable part of Christmas in the UK.

From the moment you step into the market, you’re enveloped by a festive atmosphere like no other. The air is filled with the scents of mulled wine, roasting chestnuts, and freshly baked treats like warm mince pies and gingerbread.

Traditional bratwursts sizzle away on grills, releasing a smoky aroma that mingles with the sweetness of cinnamon and nutmeg wafting from stalls selling spiced biscuits and cakes. Wandering the market, it’s hard to resist stopping at each stall to

sample something delicious. Visually, the markets are equally enchanting. Twinkling fairy lights illuminate the stalls and surrounding trees, casting a warm glow over the chilly evening.

Decorated wooden chalets line the pathways, each one adorned with festive wreaths, red ribbons, and seasonal garlands. Many markets even have grand Christmas trees or displays at their centre, adding to the magic. The sights, sounds, and smells create an immersive experience that delights visitors of all ages.

Another beloved aspect of Christmas markets is the opportunity to find unique, handcrafted gifts. In a world increasingly dominated by mass-produced goods, these markets offer something special and personal. Artisans from near and far showcase their work, selling everything from handmade jewellery and leather goods to beautiful ceramics and handblown glass ornaments.

Many stalls feature items you simply can’t find on the high street, making it the perfect place to pick up a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special.

One popular trend is finding products with a local flair, from regional cheeses and preserves to handmade textiles and knitted scarves. These goods not only make thoughtful gifts but also support small businesses and local craftspeople. When you buy from a Christmas market, you’re often purchasing

something with a story behind it, created by someone passionate about their craft. It’s a refreshing alternative to shopping in large, impersonal stores and offers a way to give back to the community while embracing the spirit of Christmas.

Mulled Wine, Hot Chocolate, and Festive Treats

No visit to a Christmas market would be complete without indulging in a warm, festive drink. Mulled wine, known as “Glühwein” in Germany, is a favourite at these markets, served steaming hot and infused with spices like cloves, cinnamon, and star anise.

Often, it’s served in charming, collectible mugs that many visitors love to take home as souvenirs. For those who prefer something a little different, there are also spiked hot chocolates, hot toddies, and winter

Traditional Bratwurst

cocktails that add a most festive twist to classic drinks.

For the younger crowd or anyone avoiding alcohol, traditional hot chocolate – often topped with whipped cream and marshmallows

– is a comforting choice. Paired with festive snacks like gingerbread or roasted nuts, these warm drinks keep spirits high, even on the chilliest of nights.

Bringing Communities Together

Christmas markets are more than just a place to shop or eat – they’re social events that bring communities together. Many markets are accompanied by live entertainment, from carol singers and brass bands to local choirs performing traditional Christmas songs. Some markets even feature rides, ice-skating rinks, or Santa’s grottos, creating a fun, family-friendly atmosphere that appeals to all generations. In city centres or village squares, these markets

become meeting places where friends, families, and even strangers gather to share in the joy of the season. They offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, inviting visitors to slow down, connect, and celebrate.

For many, attending the local Christmas market has become a treasured family tradition, marking the official start of the long awaited holiday season.

The Spirit of Giving and Tradition

At its heart, the charm of Christmas markets lies in their celebration of tradition. Many of the customs and crafts featured at these markets have been passed down through generations, preserving a sense of continuity and heritage. The focus on handmade goods, communal gatherings, and simple pleasures contrasts beautifully with the fast pace of modern life, reminding us of the joy found in small, meaningful moments.

Additionally, many Christmas markets support local charities and community initiatives. Some stalls are run by charitable organisations, and visitors often have opportunities to donate to worthy causes or participate in raffles and auctions supporting local initiatives. This spirit of generosity resonates deeply during the festive season, adding an extra layer of warmth and goodwill.

The Magic of Christmas Markets

There’s something uniquely heart-warming about visiting a Christmas market. It’s a chance to step into a winter wonderland, sample festive treats, find handmade treasures, and connect with others in a celebration of community and tradition.

Whether it’s the glow of fairy lights, the warmth of mulled wine, or the joy of discovering a perfect gift, Christmas markets capture the spirit of the season in a way that brings people back year after year. As these markets continue to grow in popularity across the UK, they remain a cherished tradition that embodies the true essence of Christmas: togetherness, generosity, and joy.

Place some thinly slice Brie on top of the turkey. Brush one side on the pastry on each strip with egg wash Fold pastry over and seal the edges with a fork. Repeat with your other section.

Cut into how many portions you wish. I made 12.

Step 3

Place on to your baking tray leaving enough space between them to expand. If you need to use 2 baking trays do so. Egg wash each roll. Optional - Sprinkle each sausage roll with dried sage. Bake for 22-25 mins until nice and golden. Leave to cool for a few minutes then tuck in!

Winter Sun in Lapland

Experience the magic of Lapland and welcome. The enchanting land of snowcapped forests, reindeer-drawn sleigh rides, Husky Safari and the unforgettable Northern Lights. Nestled in the far north of Finland, Lapland offers a winter wonderland like no other, with its pristine wilderness, charming villages, and endless outdoor adventures. Just remember Lapland isn’t just for families but for romantic retreats or a great team building venue.

Within Lapland there are different types of accommodation to suit all needs. Log Cabins, Aurora Glass Igloos, Sky View Cabins, Treehouses to name a few. As your dedicated travel agent, I can tailor make your special Lapland trip to suit you. 3, 4 or 5 nights or even longer. I would discuss with you what you want from the trip, what experiences you want to discover to create the perfect trip.

Human Resources: Without the Heartburn!

Everyone wants their employees to be happy at work. It’s better for them, and if you run a business, it’s better for you too. Happy staff perform measurably better, and you can spend more time focusing on your business, and less time dealing with people problems.

Nice!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way.

We like to think that everyone would ‘do a good job’ but there can be different views about what that means. If someone is not meeting expectations, then you need to follow a fair and reasonable process that gives them a chance to improve. The goal should be to ‘manage up’ and not ‘manage out’.

However, if it’s just not working out, then again there is a fair and reasonable process that must be followed to bring the employment relationship to an end.

Failing to follow these processes can significantly increase the chances of the employee raising a grievance or filing a claim at an employment tribunal. We specialise in dealing with workplace conflict and people problems. Our team consists of expert HR professionals, workplace mediators and employment lawyers. We can help manage a situation through to a successful outcome, and always with an eye on minimising costs and legal risk.

The Mindset for Mental Game M.A.S.T.E.R.Y.

The Ultimate Christmas Gift for 2024

As the festive season approaches, thoughts naturally drift to finding that perfect gift for our loved ones and also ourselves. Whilst most traditional presents offer short term joy, cultivating a new mindset rooted in MASTERY could be the ultimate Christmas present—one that enhances life not just in 2024, but for many years to come. This year, instead of simply swapping various wrapped presents, consider giving yourself or a loved one the gift of a MENTAL GAME MASTERY mindset that fosters well-being, love and success.

A mindset isn’t just a fancy buzzword or a static set of beliefs; it is a collection of attitudes and perspectives that fully shape how we perceive and respond to life’s experiences and events. A growth mindset emphasises the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developed with time, effort and training. In contrast, a fixed mindset sees talent and intelligence as static, leading to limited growth and less opportunity moving forward.

A MINDSET gift has the power to redefine how we approach every day moving forward and not just the festive ones. A MENTAL GAME MASTERY focused mindset can be the foundation for navigating life’s challenges, savouring our moments of joy, and nurturing stronger relationships—all aspects that contribute to a truly fulfilling life.

So how do you wrap up such an incredibly transformative gift? How about we start by creating rituals that reinforce having a MASTERY focused MINDSET. Maybe design a new family tradition that encourages sharing gratitude, such as a Christmas Eve family group gathering where each person in the room shares something they’re thankful for that year. Or, create a small MINDSET MASTERY gift box containing challenges to get on with to foster and cultivate a MENTAL GAME MASTERY Mindset.

I use an amazing model with my clients called the M.A.S.T.E.R.Y Model and we focus on areas to elevate and upgrade their MENTAL GAME focusing on 7

specific areas that add leverage to one’s MIND and MENTAL PERFORMANCE. Today, I want YOU to focus on 7 different areas but yet again using the word MASTERY:

M - MEANING and connection. Focus on what Christmas means to you this year and how you connect with the people in your life on a deeper level.

A - ACCESSIBILITY. Be accessible with others this Christmas. Be present and show those who care for us how much we care for them and end 2024 the way we intend to start 2025.

S - SMILE. You can change someone’s state in an instant with a smile, including our own. How about we give ourselves the gift of internal and external HUGE smiles this year. With just a few movements of your face, imagine what would happen this Christmas if you made your smile light up a room?

T - THOUGHTFUL. Presents are great and we all love unwrapping a present but could you do something truly thoughtful for someone this year. It may cost nothing but some of your time, your effort, your energy but that person could cherish your thoughtfulness for a lifetime.

E - ENTERTAINMENT. We all live in an era of incredible entertainment yet so many of us are floating through life on autopilot. Could you create a game, a moment or something special as we close out 2024 that would make not only your day but also the day of the people you care about? Be creative, this entertaining moment could change your life forever.

R - Could you RAISE a glass or a cheer to someone who has impacted your life immensely this year? Could you make a toast and raise a glass (or two) to a moment this year that deserves to be celebrated and enjoyed? Again, could that moment RAISE someone’s self-love and self-esteem and that moment would be because of you?

Y - Now this final letter, I’ll keep this the same as my awesome M.A.S.T.E.R.Y model and that word is YOU. Do something for YOU this Christmas and this new year. Blow yourself away, unleash yourself, bring out the best version of YOU. Take your time to think about what one thing would impact your life the most going into 2025 and then take one small step towards that.

Gifting yourself and the people you care about an upgraded mindset may not be as tangible as a shiny new gadget, but its effects can last far beyond this 2024 festive season. The ability to navigate life’s highs and lows with grace, learn from experiences, and find joy in the everyday is an investment in a happier, more fulfilling future. This Christmas, consider cultivating and sharing the gift of a M.A.S.T.E.R.Y focused mindset, a gift that could keep on giving.

Happy Christmas, I truly wish you a truly M.A.S.T.E.R.Y filled time.

Get Christmas Party Ready

As the days continue to get darker earlier and Christmas party season well and truly gets into full swing, we wouldn’t blame you if you were feeling less than motivated about maintaining your everyday fitness routine. In fact, many of us would probably prefer to don our bright and colourful party dress code complete with red lipstick and a show stopping shimmery outfit. Or, perhaps a jovial jumper/shirt and trouser combination, depending on your preference.

During this time of year, it can also be especially tempting to tuck into a whole host of delicious delights. Whilst balance is key, it’s still important to eat healthy nutritious food and train as regularly as your seasonal social calendar permits. To help you, we’ve put together a few tips aimed at encouraging you with your workouts and food regime and ensure that you’re feeling fabulous and Christmas party ready.

Balance Things Out

During this time of year, supermarkets will be fully stocked with a whole host of tempting Christmas treats including mince pies, chocolate yule logs, alcohol in various tempting forms and shortbread. It’s vital you remember not to overdo it.

On the other hand, we believe everyone deserves to indulge from time to time –especially during the festive season as a whole. So, if you’re tucking into a tantalising Yorkshire pudding wrap with all the trimmings, opt for a warming seasonal soup with some wholemeal bread and a side of fruit for your second meal.

We believe everyone deserves to indulge from time to time, especially during the festive season

Switch Things Up

Although many of us enjoy being active outdoors during the summer. The thought of doing the same during the party season and wintry months doesn’t quite have the same appeal to most. You might want to try something a little different from your typical gym routine, like a group fitness class.

Exercising in a group offers a whole host of benefits including, working out in a fun and social setting and picking up new pointers on how to train more efficiently and effectively. It could also inspire you to train that little bit harder, as you’ll be competing against one another and collectively push each other to keep going.

We offer a number of classes for members of varying fitness interests and abilities, including, Zumba, HIIT and Boxercise.

Fresh Food

We believe cooking and eating fresh food is always best. There will be plenty of winter vegetables available such as Brussels sprouts, leeks, savoy cabbage and Jerusalem artichokes, for you to sample and make something creative with. Try roasting some baby carrots, pumpkins, parsnips and artichokes, combined with your choice of seasoning, paired with a little olive or rapeseed oil. This will not only be delicious, but also healthy and packed with flavour and essential nutrients.

Time Changer

Leaving your warm and cosy bed is always slightly more difficult during the colder months. But it may be worthwhile to swap your after work gym sessions to the mornings instead. There’s a chance it might be a slight struggle to begin with, but you’ll find yourself with more energy throughout the day. You’ll also have more free time in the evenings, are likely to sleep better and earlier and you’ll feel much more prepared for your Christmas party.

Get Some Air

Our mission is to get as many people as possible engaging in 30 minutes of activity, five days a week. While we understand you may want to stick to working out indoors during the festive season and colder months. It’s still vital to try and get some fresh air wherever possible. To increase your heart rate and get your blood pumping, consider going out for a brisk walk during your lunch break or a light jog once you return from work and you’ll be able to enjoy the Christmas party even more so than usual.

A Wonderful Christmas in Wokingham Town Centre

Town Centre is a delightful celebration of festive spirit, drawing both locals and visitors to experience the town’s unique holiday charm. From late November, Wokingham’s streets light up with sparkling Christmas decorations and twinkling fairy lights that illuminate the town centre, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The festivities usually kick off with the highly anticipated Christmas lights switch-on event, accompanied by live entertainment, carol singing, and food stalls that fill the streets with seasonal scents of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and other treats.

Wokingham’s Christmas market, typically set up in Market Place, is a major attraction throughout December. The market offers a range of handcrafted gifts, festive decorations, and artisanal foods, making it an ideal spot to find unique Christmas presents. Local vendors showcase everything from handmade jewellery to speciality cheeses and holiday sweets. For foodies, there are usually stands offering international foods and festive favourites, bringing a touch of flavour and variety to the traditional British Christmas market experience.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Wokingham hosts a range of family-friendly events. Santa’s Grotto is a favourite for young children, providing them

with a chance to meet Father Christmas in a cosy, festively decorated setting. The town often arranges festive storytelling sessions, craft workshops, and performances by local choirs and brass bands, which bring the sounds of Christmas to every corner. The town’s churches, too, join in the season’s celebrations, holding carol services and nativity plays that attract both participants and spectators.

The historic architecture of Wokingham provides a charming backdrop to these events, and the Victorian buildings around the town centre look particularly picturesque under the Christmas lights. Many of the town’s shops join in the festivities by decorating their windows with creative, seasonal displays, adding to the sense of Christmas magic.

Overall, Christmas in Wokingham Town Centre is a wonderful blend of tradition, community spirit, and festive cheer, offering something for everyone. Whether browsing the Christmas market, enjoying the lights, or simply soaking up the lively atmosphere, Wokingham’s holiday season provides a memorable experience that captures the heart of Christmas in a quintessentially British way.
