IBEW Local 98 Locks In Best Health Care Plan With

The continuation of the top-rated Blue Cross Personal Choice� plan for Local 98 members includes a new provision meant to protect our brothers and sisters from the dangers of opioid abuse:

If, after the five day allotment of the pain pills, your personal physician determines that your specific pain level warrants additional medication, additional prescriptions may be granted. Once again, this new change in our health care plan has been implemented purely for the health and safety of our members.

There will now be a five-pill limit on prescriptions for any pain medications that include opioids.

This measure is in response to the opioid epidemic that has hit America with a vengeance. Fully one in five Americans who are prescribed opioids for pain management become addicted within 10 days of being on the medication.

LOCAL 98 MEMBERS ENERGIZING CONSTRUCTION OF Project Valued At More Than $9 Billion

COMCAST II TOWER

IBEW Local 98’s talented electricians and technicians continue work on the dramatic new Comcast II Tower of Innovation & Technology at 19th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia which, when completed in spring 2018, will be Philadelphia’s tallest skyscraper.

The groundbreaking for the massive construction project began July 2014. To date, 13 different union contractors are on-site. Local 98 is wellrepresented on this signature project, including seven stewards, 205 inside journeymen, 37 foremen and pushers, 46 technicians and 39 apprentices for a total of 334 of our members.

When completed, Comcast II will stand 62 stories tall, with the top 12 floors being dedicated to a new Four Seasons Hotel and Restaurant. Although the building itself is topped out at 62 stories, a dramatic spire atop the 62nd floor will make it the tallest building in the city at an eye-popping 1,200 feet in the air.

LOCAL 98 CONTINUES TO PLAY KEY ROLE IN SUCCESS OF

Philadelphia Convention Center Just over three years ago, there was a seismic shift in the constitution of the union workforce operating at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. IBEW Local 98, Stagehands Local 8, Laborers Local 332 and Ironworkers Local 405 signed onto a new Customer Satisfaction Agreement (CSA) that was customer-focused and gave convention exhibitors many more rights. As a result of this new CSA, the Convention Center has enjoyed unprecedented success over the past three years and has even been able to bring back major conventions whose leaders vowed never to return to Philadelphia, blaming high costs and labor unrest. No more.

One of the biggest and most recent Convention Center success stories was the 2017 Light Fair, the world’s largest lighting industry convention which also serves as a showcase for the unmatched skills of Local 98’s highly-trained electricians and technicians. All told, Local 98 members logged more than 18,000 man hours working the threeday Light Fair and the reviews of our show performance were sensational.

Officials of Light Fair, who had previously vowed never to return to Philadelphia because of high costs and labor issues, were so impressed with labor’s performance this year that they have already committed to returning to the PA Convention Center in 2019 and 2021.

In more good news for Local 98, the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) has booked the Convention Center for its national convention for the first time in both 2018 and 2020.

2017 NFL DRAFT IN PHILLY From the opening kick-off on April 27th through the final whistle on April 29th, the 2017 National Football League (NFL) Draft in Philadelphia was a classic for the ages.

Philadelphia set a record for attendance with more than 250,000 football fanatics from around the country crowding the Parkway for the threeday festival (Chicago held the previous record of 225,000 attendees, set in 2016. There were other records, including the largest stage ever built, the largest tent ever erected for the NFL Draft and no arrests. And, of course, hundreds of IBEW Local 98 electricians, technicians and freelance broadcasters did all the power, cabling and broadcast work, beginning eight full weeks out from the event. During the 98 NEWS · SUMMER/FALL 2017 EDITION

final two weeks leading up to the draft, our members worked around the clock to finish the enormous project on time. An official with the NFL Draft told our own Jim Foy, Assistant Business Manager, that he’d “never seen such a strong labor count” in any of the previous draft events. Labor harmony on the job among the various Building Trades’ locals was evident throughout the intense build-up and breakdown.

The reviews of Philadelphia’s performance from some of the best-known names in football were glowing, to say the least.

Adam Schefter, one of ESPN’s most respected football reporters, tweeted, “Props to the people of Philadelphia.

That’s how to host a draft. No

city has injected that amount of energy, electricity, excitement into the draft.” Schefter later added, “Wildest, most raucous atmosphere in draft history.

Philly bringing it.”

Trey Wingo, host of ESPN’s “NFL Live” program, tweeted, “Philly, you absolutely KILLED it. Best draft experience ever.

The standard has been set for every future draft city to try and match.”

We agree, which is why we’re more than a little hopeful that Philadelphia may be awarded the 2018 NFL Draft. Keep your fingers crossed.

City & State PA, a popular new magazine that tracks political news in the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recently published its “Power 100” list for 2017. IBEW Local 98’s long-time Business Manager John J. Dougherty was #7 on the list, ahead of many current and former elected officials and business leaders.

Among the highlights the magazine cited about John was that he was influential in helping to elect Jim Kenney as mayor, supported many members of Philadelphia City Council, and helped elect his brother, Kevin, to the State Supreme Court.

The article also references John’s and Local 98’s support of Democrat Jack O’Neill for District Attorney, a relative political unknown who became “a formidable candidate” through the union’s support.

To The Legal Team

Attorney Jack O’Neill, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and a Democratic candidate for D.A. in the May 2016 Primary Election, was recently hired by IBEW Local 98’s in-house legal team. O’Neill joins Local 98 attorneys Pasquale “Pat” Bianculli and Tara Chupka on the legal team.

According to IBEW Local 98 Business Manager John J. Dougherty, O’Neill will assist the union in such issues as detecting and reporting cyber-fraud, defamation cases, compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Labor Relations Board, and helping the union meet the many demands of the rapidly changing energy industry, including electrical, solar, nuclear and other emerging technologies.

“During the campaign for District Attorney, I was greatly impressed with Jack’s experience, work ethic and passion for the law. He has already proven to be a great new addition to the Local 98 team and we’re fortunate to have him on the team,” said Business Manager John J. Dougherty.

Jack O’Neill was equally pleased to be joining IBEW Local 98.

U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-8th) recently accomplished several legislative victories in Congress that were victories for the working class.

First, Rep. Fitzpatrick, along with the House Building Trades Caucus (led by Rep. Donald Norcross of NJ) worked to ensure that the following two antiDavis Bacon and Prevailing Wage amendments were voted down or removed completely from the House's “Secure America” ominbus funding bill:  Amendment #23 to Division C offered by Congressman Steve King and Amendment #64 to Division D offered by Congressman Francis Rooney, which sought to eliminate Davis-Bacon protections on federally-funded construction projects.  Amendment #65 to Division D offered by Congressman Francis Rooney which sought to prohibit project labor agreements (PLAs) on federally funded construction projects.

Both Amendments #23 and #64 would deny DavisBacon prevailing wage coverage for any federallysupported construction project initiated under this legislation. It’s important to remember that the DavisBacon Act promotes sound investment in human capital and in our nation¹s infrastructure while ensuring proper functioning of labor markets by grounding the industry¹s competition in fair wages.

Rep. Fitzpatrick’s second defense of workers came when he drafted a “Dear Colleague” letter to his fellow House members to ensure their opposition to the Gosar Amendment to the House's FY 18 Defense Funding Bill, which would alter how Prevailing wages are calculated to the detriment of working families in the construction trades industry.

Third, on Friday, July 28th, Rep. Fitzpatrick introduced “American Job Creation and Investment” legislation into the Public Works Reform Act of 2017. This legislation would amend the EB-5 Visa Program for public private partnership infrastructure projects to include Davis-Bacon, Prevailing Wage, and PLA provisions.

Finally, since entering office as a freshman member of Congress, Rep. Fitzpatrick has had and continues to have an "open door policy" to listen to the labor community's legislative concerns. To date, he has voted against all amendments and legislation that would alter or repeal Davis-Bacon, Prevailing Wage, and PLAs. Local 98 was proud to support Rep. Fitzpatrick for Congress and thanks him for having the backs of America’s working class families.

Impressive New Business Wins IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY 98 North recently announced some significant new business wins in Montgomery County.

Vertex After many weeks of negotiations between Local Union 98, our contractors and Lakash Construction, Belles Electrical was awarded the 14,000+ man hour Vertex fit-out project. The project was run by foreman Mike Reynolds and the steward on the project was Matt Keenan.

Special This was yet another project that was on time and under budget.

Recovery Centers of America (O’Neill Properties) 98 North was able to flip this project from a nonunion contractor out of Texas to our members who now work for MacDonald Electric. Work continues at the Recovery Center and Phase 2 will begin in Fall of 2017.

Market Recovery Our market share continues to increase through building new relationships and more union contractors bidding in the jurisdiction. Since February 2016, we have generated over 105,000 hours of market recovery work for our members.

Pharmaceutical Companies Merck, GSK, Teva, Pfizer, Trevena,Jansen, and other major pharmaceutical firms in the area continue to hire our members. The value that our members bring to the these companies is unmatched. The quality, safety, and professionalism have these companies looking to expand in our area. Merck’s construction budget outlook at their West Point Facility is to increase by 25% each year until at least

2019. GSK continues to build their Research and Development labs and offices at the Upper Providence site. Over 70% of GSK’s global Research & Development is located in Upper Providence.

Investments in infrastructure, updating offices with the newest technologies, and continued expansion into the area will bring many more work opportunities for our union.

King of Prussia Mall With the successful completion of the mall expansion project, King of Prussia Mall is looking to continue to improve the largest retail shopping mall in the nation. A $35 million renovation to the mall’s interior common areas is in the works. The proud and talented members of IBEW Local 98 North understand the importance of giving back to the communities in which they live and work.

Among the many charitable endeavors 98 North engages in is Habitat for Humanity, a global nonprofit housing organization working in nearly 1,400 communities across the United States and in approximately 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward its vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home. Much of Local 98’s gratis electrical work for Habitat for Humanity is in the Bridgeport, Pottstown and Norristown communities in Montgomery County. Norristown is the seat of Montgomery County government.

98 North members also recently performed gratis electrical work for the George Washington Carver Center in Norristown, a popular community center that features an outdoor swimming pool, youth soccer programs, a large space for “Sweet 16” parties and other family celebrations, and much more. Our members performed lighting work, emergency lighting upgrades, and trash clean-up as part of Norristown’s annual “Rock the Block” event. Pennsylvania State Senator Daylin Leach, State Representative Matthew Bradford and U.S. Congressman Brendan Boyle – whose districts cover much of 98 North’s jurisdiction - are also involved in these local efforts and are strong allies of 98 North.

On June 8th, 98 North members were out in force for the annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser to find a cure for childhood cancers. Our members fanned out across the King of Prussia Mall and helped raise significant dollars for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Local 98 members line up to sign up to donate blood for the survivors of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma that devastated communities in Texas and Florida and injured thousands of people, the American Red Cross put out a nationwide call for help and IBEW Local 98 answered the call.

For more than five hours, Local 98 members gave blood for the victims of two furious hurricanes in the south.

In addition to collecting and sending tractor-trailers full of desperately needed supplies to Texas and Florida, Local 98 recently hosted a blood drive at its union hall in conjunction with the Philadelphia chapter of the American Red Cross. Well over 100 Local 98 apprentices, members and staffers rolled up their sleeves and donated their blood to help fellow Americans in need. A second blood drive is planned for later in the month of October.

“We have had a great relationship with the Red Cross for many years and were happy to answer their call for help,” said Local 98 Business Manager John J. Dougherty. “Our members have big hearts.”

THE PROPER ACCIDENT REPORTING PROTOCOL This is an important reminder to all IBEW Local 98 members to follow the proper protocol when reporting all on-the-job accidents.

• If there is a steward on the job, let the steward know about your injury immediately and he or she will report it.

• If there is no steward on the job, it is up to you, the injured worker, to immediately contact the Local 98 Financial Office and provide them with all the details of the accident. It’s not enough to simply call or leave a message for Safety Coordinator Jim Dollard.

• Be aware that keeping a record of exposure to ASBESTOS is extremely important because the symptoms often don’t manifest themselves until years after you’ve been exposed. The contractors agreed to this important new safety provision.

• Local 98 has an electronic tracking system for all job site accidents. It’s incumbent upon you to report an accident immediately, following the steps listed above.

Don

Siegel, the long-time IBEW International Vice President for the 3rd District (which includes Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware), recently announced his retirement after more than three decades of outstanding service and leadership.

Among his many important accomplishments, Don always impressed upon the leaders and the members of the unions of the IBEW in Pennsylvania and our neighboring states the critical importance of electing good political candidates that support workers, collective bargaining and the middle class.

All across Pennsylvania, IBEW volunteers are helping educate and mobilize union members and their families to vote on Election Day for our endorsed candidates. Don led by example, visiting staging areas in Pennsylvania, participating in the neighborhood canvassing, worksite activities, phone banks, and local union mail.

Phase One Of East Market Project Moving Ahead Local 98 members continue their stellar work on the highly-anticipated East Market project, the 4-acre mixed-use development still under construction that will encompass an entire city block between Market and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia.

East Market, being developed by National Real Estate Development out of Washington, D.C. (with a significant financial investment of our IBEW pension dollars), broke ground in 2014 and is closing in on the openings of three businesses on the Market Street side of the project - Mom’s Organic Market, The Design Center and Bohlin Cywinski

Phase One of East Market is costing the developer $260 million and is concentrating on leasing the buildings facing Market Street, as well as renovating 34 South 11th Street, where Mom's, the Design Center and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson will be located. Adjacent to the existing building, a residential tower with 322 units is being built from the ground up.

All in, the $600 million East Market project will be developed in phases over the next five years. National Real Estate Development’s vision for the project is to

create a dynamic urban environment for young professionals and innovators who place value on experience and convenience.

The development connects the onceneglected East Market neighborhood with the dense business and convention district further west on Market Street by creating a place that blends large format and boutique shopping and dining with modern working and living spaces.

When completed, East market will be another hallmark location for city residents and another source of pride for IBEW Local 98’s unrivaled electricians and technicians.

The giant digital billboard on East Market will be installed by Metro, the firm that also did the iconic Lit Brother's sign.

Local 98 Continues To Score Victories For Working Families

There are three good reasons why IBEW Local 98 has the largest market share of any IBEW local union in the country – we compete hard for work opportunities, we are vigilant in defending workers’ rights and we have the best trained, most highly educated workforce anywhere. Those distinct advantages have led to some recent and important victories for Local 98.

WAGE & HOUR We recently won the restitution of $125,000 in stolen wages for the employees of Brothers Electric. Through salting, hand-billing, and jobsite visits, Local 98 Organizers were able to get 60 Brothers’ employees involved in the lawsuit. The law firm worked on a contingency basis and the campaign came at no cost to our membership.

Cooks Service Company was refusing to pay the proper prevailing wages on publicly-funded projects. Local 98, through salting, was able to prove the company’s error and recover the unpaid wages for the employees of Cooks.

Again, this campaign came at no cost to our membership.

NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD (NLRB) Kiss Electric has agreed to hire only Local 98 labor. This decision was part of an NLRB Settlement that was proposed

by Local 98, agreed upon by Kiss Electric, challenged

by Region 4 of the NLRB (the Philadelphia division) and upheld by the full NLRB in Washington, DC. Local 98 also recently proved that several ABC-affiliated area contractors use discriminatory hiring practices. We won favorable NLRB findings against Edwards Electric & Telecom, Horizon Electric & Lighting and Hard Hat Services.

ORGANIZING Local 98 was certified by the NLRB as the exclusive representatives for collective bargaining purposes for the employees of Grey Wolf Electric. Negotiations for a first contract are currently underway.

– Tim Browne Vice President IBEW Local 98 TRI-M GROUP Tri-M has over 400 employees with offices located in Baltimore, MD; Kennett Square, PA; Allentown, PA and Lock Haven, PA. They have several divisions in construction, teledata, building automation, security, line work and testing.

Local 98 has put together a comprehensive organizing campaign that includes hand-billing, demonstrating, house visits, geo-fencing (a virtual geographic boundary around an area by means of GPS or RFID technology, enabling software to trigger a response when a mobile device enters or leaves the area), company-wide emails, websites and salting. We’ve visited job sites as far away as Perryville, Maryland and set up geo-fencing at a company-wide meeting at the University of Delaware.

IBEW Local 98 takes great pride in its many successful organizing campaigns, led by Vice President Tim Browne. Two effective organizing tactics are the use of “salts” and “peppers”.

Salting is a legal labor union tactic in which a worker is hired for a job at a specific workplace with the intent of organizing a union. That individual is known as a salt. Under U.S. law, unions may be prohibited from talking

with workers in the workplace, but salting is one of the few legal strategies that allow union organizers to talk with workers. A pepper is a current employee of a company who is enlisted by a union to perform the same or similar types of duties a salt would perform, if hired by a company. Local 98 is constantly working to lawfully organize non-union shops. In numbers, there is strength.

Extension Of Subway Line Into Navy Yard Continues To For years, IBEW Local 98 Business Manager John J. Dougherty has championed the extension of the Broad Street Subway Line (BSL) into the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The plan remains on track.

The long-held dream became closer to reality in November of 2013, "Cost estimates for the extension, pushed when then-PA Governor Tom Corbett signed House Bill 1060 into law, creating a comprehensive piece of legislation which pumped $2.4 billion hard by heavy hitters like U.S. Rep. Since then, Local 98, SEPTA and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) have been diligently working on the feasibility study, which is due to be finalized at the upcoming BSL Extension Project Stakeholder Committee Meeting (of which Local 98 is a member) in mid-September 2017. The study contains a computer model that includes the engineering, economics and psychology for the project. The model uses socio-economic data and computer representations of the road and transit systems to ensure that it reproduces current traffic volumes and transit ridership. The model also includes inputs on the future number of employees, zip codes for current employees, review of parking policies and commuter benefit programs, and car share/ bike share expansion. Ultimately, the model will compile and assess background data for transit ridership, parking capacity, utilization, population and employment forecasts commencing the conceptual engineering for the project.

Local 98 strongly supports the recommended 1.5 mile extension into the Navy Yard. The project will include new “fixed guide ways,” extensions to existing systems, and corridor-based rail and bus systems.

The subway extension project will trigger new growth in South Philadelphia that’s not dependent on Center City. The BSL extension would improve the Navy Yard’s accessibility; ease congested morning traffic; and provide better public access to the wide array of its businesses. Today, the Navy Yard is a modern urban campus that arose from the ashes of the former Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, creating a vibrant, waterfront home for more than 13,000 employees 145 companies in the office, industrial/manufacturing, and Research & Development sectors. These firms occupy nearly seven million square feet of real estate in a mix of historic. renovated buildings and newly-built highperformance and LEED certified construction.

Some of those companies include GlaxoSmithKline, Urban Outfitters, a Marriott Hotel, and others.

Currently, there are two free shuttle routes that allow employees and visitors to reach the Navy Yard from Center City as well as the AT&T Station on the Broad Street Subway Line. However, these shuttle bus alternatives are not sustainable or sufficient enough to match the current employment demand 98 NEWS · SUMMER/FALL 2017 EDITION

at the Navy Yard. John J. Dougherty continues to be a vocal proponent of the project, due to the economic and social impact it will have on a thriving section of our city. Additionally, Congress and the Trump Administration have a bi-partisan agreement on a proposed $1 billion infrastructure package, which will ultimately include the BSL extension project.

Like the famous line from the film “Field Of Dreams” goes “If we build it, they will come”.

In Memoriam Edward J. McBride

Edward J. McBride, a long-time, dear friend and retired employee of IBEW Local 98, passed away suddenly on June 5, 2017. Ed was a South Philadelphia legend, serving as the President and pulse of the Edward O’Malley Athletic Association until his final day. Ed also was the former president of the S.E. Catholic/Sts. Neumann & Goretti Millay Club, a board member of Quaker City String Band and a member of Whitman Council. Ed was the beloved husband of his late wife, Eleanor and the loving father of the Honorable Edward J., Daniel and Gregory McBride. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and good friends. Ed was a proud Irishman who truly loved life and exemplified all that is good in this world.

Daughter of Local 98 Member Wins Prestigious 2017 Union Services Access Scholarship Award Elyse Langan, daughter of long-time Local 98 member Daniel Langan, has won a 2017 collegiate scholarship sponsored by Union Services Access (USA). USA provides legal representation by the finest network of legal professionals, along with benefits such as free consultation and discounted rates. USA also conducts educational seminars on unions' and members' legal rights and benefits, and sponsors union heath fairs. USA is affiliated with IBEW Local 98 and eight other unions. USA has been servicing union members and families for the past six years and continues to expand its legal services. The company was founded by IBEW Local 98 attorney Pat Bianculli and Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano founder Sam Pond, Esquire.

“Of the many worthy applicants for our most recent scholarship awards, Elyse really stood out,” said Bianculli. “Union Services Access is delighted to be able to provide Elyse and other deserving children of union members with this annual scholarship award. Through continuing education, we maintain our competitive advantage over the competition.

In that spirit, IBEW Local 98 is implementing a series of Stewards’ Classes, beginning in Fall 2017. Our union stewards represent and defend the interests of our members on Local 98 job sites. Our stewards are a link between our workforce and union leadership. Our stewards are also responsible for informing members of their rights under the collective bargaining agreement (CBA); monitoring and enforcing the provisions of the CBA; and ensuring employer compliance with federal, state and local laws.

Local 98’s management team negotiated with NECA to include strong new steward language in our most recent three-year contract. Local 98 stewards will now be required to attend two four-hour classes annually.

Welcomes New Training Instructors For more than 100 years, IBEW Local Union 98 has been committed to providing the finest apprenticeship and journeyman training in the country.

Apprentice Training for the Electrical Industry (ATEI) has a rich history of offering state-of-the-art training in outstanding training facilities. Under the direction of Business Manager John J. Dougherty and Training Director Mike Neill, the past ten years have seen tremendous improvements in all facets of our apprenticeship, journeyman wireman, and technician training programs.

A key component of any highly successful training program, including ATEI, is the quality of the training program instructors. Again, IBEW 98 and ATEI have a long history of having some of the finest electrical instructors in the country. Most importantly, all of our instructors have been IBEW 98 members who have come up through the ranks and understand our trade and our industry.

Over the course of the past year, three of our outstanding instructors have retired and left their full-time positions at ATEI. We will certainly miss having Iggy Fletcher Sr., Mark Urban and Jerry Coyle in the classroom, training our apprentices and journeyman wireman. Over the course of their time at ATEI, they have each shared their experience and knowledge of the trade with hundreds of IBEW 98 members. We wish them all the best in their retirement.

The task of replacing three outstanding instructors like Iggy, Mark and Jerry is daunting. Fortunately, IBEW 98 has a wealth of talented members who are willing to consider leaving their current positions to move into fulltime roles as ATEI instructors. We are very pleased to announce that, effective August 15th, Dominick Verrecchio and Shawn McCarthy have agreed to accept full-time instructor positions with IBEW 98 and ATEI. 98 NEWS ¡ SUMMER/FALL 2017 EDITION

Shawn McCarthy was accepted into the IBEW Local 98 Apprentice Training Program in October 1988. He became an inside journeyman wireman in November 1992. Shawn has experience as a sub foreman, area foreman, general foreman and steward. He has supervised many projects, including the Philadelphia Airport expansion - Terminals B, C, D, and E - and the overseas terminal; Citizen Bank Park; and the Federal Detention Center. Shawn played ice hockey for the IBEW Local 98 team and is a co-founder of the Local 98 Motorcycle Riding Club. After 29 years of service, Shawn is excited to begin the next chapter of his career as an instructor and bestowing his knowledge and experience on the next generation of IBEW electricians.

Dominick Verrecchio has been a proud member of Local 98 for 18 years. After completing his apprenticeship, he became a foreman and has worked for numerous industrial and commercial contractors.

He has traveled and worked in various other IBEW local unions on the East coast. He is a strong advocate for continuing education and has a passion for learning. Dominick looks forward to continuing to serve the IBEW and Local Union 98 as an instructor and proud member.

ATEI Director of Training Mike Neill expressed his excitement about adding Dominick and Shawn to the team. “These are both highly qualified members who have a passion for training. Now, more than ever before, we have to ensure that our training programs and curriculum are preparing our new members and giving our existing journeyman and technicians the tools and training they need to meet the demands of our everchanging construction industry.”

The 2017 Philadelphia Labor Day turned into a labor of love for many victims of Hurricane Harvey along the Gulf Coast in Texas and Louisiana.

The Teamsters donated an enormous tractor-trailer, which was parked in a high-visibility spot along the Columbus Boulevard parade route. All morning long, thousands of
