LA HISTORIA ABRIGA

La historia abriga is a project that began in 2018 from the exploration of discarded fabrics used in the domestic sphere, stained, torn, dirty, worn out, considered rubbish.

From the request to people who work in the domestic sphere, mostly women, and the collection of these 'rags', the idea of care is worked on.

With found plastics, transparent wrappings are created, glazes, through which one can recognize elements of work, the traces of invisible labour.

In 2023, collaboration begins with the Barcelona trade union Las Kellys, adding their donations of textiles used in their daily work.

The installation is conceived as a forest of wasteland, inviting reflection and supporting their struggle to improve working conditions in their sector.

On the table, a journey through the creative process to arrive at small portable pieces in the form of contemporary jewelry, but no longer wrapped in plastic but in biodegradable sheets.

This forest is intended to be a reflective space on oppression. Patriarchal oppression, ecological oppression, oppressions of capitalist domination.

The footprint in the fabric is a metaphor for the action and work done. Sheltering, and caring as the fundamental axes for transforming realities and preserving life.

[...] The Kellys are made up of a variety of women: some of them are unemployed, others are active, some are on an internship, others are paid, some are temporary, others are permanent, some work on staff, others for an external company, some have a part-time contract, others an 8-hour contract, some are affiliated to different trade unions, others to none, some are Spanish, others foreign, some are floor maids, others occupy other ranks in the floor department... Some of them have been working as waitresses for many years and are worried about their health and the conditions in which they will retire, others have been working for less time and are worried about not repeating a working life the same or worse than that of their predecessors. This space belongs to them, to all of them.
