June volume 41 number 6
As the days grow longer and summer begins to unfold, I’m filled with gratitude and inspiration. June always feels like a time of transition—when we shed the heaviness of seasons past and step boldly into a new chapter filled with possibility, vitality, and connection.
We kicked off this new season with incredible energy at ICES in both Philadelphia and Dallas. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, joined our talks, and shared your stories. The sense of community and passion among estheticians and educators was truly magnetic—it reminded us why we do what we do, and how powerful we are when we come together.
In this issue, we dive into topics that reflect that same spirit of transformation and nourishment. We explore the benefits of lymphatic drainage and body treatments—essential tools for moving stagnant energy and supporting deeper healing. Our feature on melasma offers guidance and hope to those navigating this complex skin condition, while our wellness spotlight looks at the power of adaptogens—nature’s gentle support system for stress and hormonal harmony.
We’re also thrilled to share an exclusive interview with Salt & Souls Spa in Charlotte, where modern rituals meet soulful care. Wherever this month takes you—whether it's rest, growth, or radiant creation—we hope these pages offer inspiration and a sense of support. Your work, your presence, and your passion matter deeply.

The best-selling Celluma device just got even better. All the award-winning benefits of the PRO you love, now with a 4th mode added for body contouring...and it's battery-powered for even more versatility in your treatment room.
The only LED device FDA cleared for:
Salt & Souls is a locally owned sanctuary in Charlotte specializing in Himalayan salt therapy and holistic wellness experiences. From salt cave sessions to sound baths and acupuncture, every offering is thoughtfully designed to nourish the body, calm the mind, and uplift the spirit. We sat down with owner Jenna Morcos to explore the heart behind the space and the healing philosophy that guides it.
1. Salt & Souls offers a unique sanctuary with Himalayan salt caves and booths. What inspired the creation of this space, and how does it reflect your vision for holistic wellness?
Salt & Souls was born from a deep desire to offer something I didn’t see enough of—spaces that truly invite rest, stillness, and healing without pressure or pretense. After years in the pharmacy world as a pharmacist, I began to feel the limitations of that model and longed to support people in a more holistic way. I wanted to create a space that felt like an exhale—where the nervous system could soften, where the body could repair, and where the soul felt gently held. The Himalayan salt cave and booths are central to that vision. They offer more than respiratory support; they create a sensory experience that encourages deep calm and reconnection. Every detail at Salt & Souls—from the lighting to the sounds we use— is meant to nurture not just physical wellness, but emotional and energetic restoration too. It’s a space for people to come home to themselves.
2. Halotherapy is central to your offerings. Could you elaborate on the science behind it and the specific benefits clients might experience during sessions?
Halotherapy, or dry salt therapy, involves inhaling microscopic particles
of pharmaceutical-grade salt dispersed into the air. The salt is naturally antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and mucolytic—which means it helps break down mucus and supports clearer airways. The dry environment and negative ions in the salt also support skin health and have been shown to help reduce inflammation, making it beneficial for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
Clients often come to us with respiratory concerns—seasonal allergies, asthma, lingering congestion—and find noticeable relief after just a few sessions. But just as often, they come for the peace. The quiet, mineral-rich air supports the nervous system in slowing down. Many describe feeling lighter, breathing deeper, and sleeping better after time in the cave. It’s a simple therapy with ancient roots, and the benefits unfold on both a physical and emotional level.
3. Your membership program includes perks like unlimited daily halotherapy sessions and "Salty Sidekick" passes. How do these features enhance the overall wellness journey for your members? Our membership was designed to encourage consistency without pressure—to make it easy for people to build rest and restoration into their lives. Unlimited daily halotherapy means members can come as often as they need, whether it's a quick reset during a stressful week or part of a larger healing routine. The body thrives on rhythm, and regular salt sessions support everything from respiratory health to emotional balance.
The “Salty Sidekick” passes are one of our favorite features. We’ve found that people often want to share their wellness journey with others, and healing is more powerful when it’s shared. These guest passes let members invite a friend or loved one to experience the cave with them—introducing new people to halotherapy and creating space for meaningful connection. In the end, our membership is less about transactions and more about belonging. It’s an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and come home to yourself—again and again.
4. Beyond halotherapy, Salt & Souls hosts events like sound baths, yoga, and acupuncture. How do these complementary therapies integrate with salt therapy to promote mental clarity and relaxation?
Each offering at Salt & Souls is intentionally chosen to support deeper restoration. Sound baths, yoga, acupuncture—all of these therapies invite the nervous system to shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-repair. When combined with the grounding effects of halotherapy, the experience becomes even more profound. Salt acts as a natural amplifier. In yoga or sound sessions, it enhances breath awareness and focus. During acupunc-
ture, the clean, mineral-rich air supports circulation and relaxation. Clients often tell us that they feel “more open” or “like something unblocked” after combining services—and that’s the point. We’re not just stacking treatments; we’re creating layered experiences that help people release, realign, and return to a quieter state of being. In a world that asks so much of us, Salt & Souls offers a soft place to land— where healing is approached gently, and wellness is allowed to unfold naturally.
5. As a locally-owned spa in Charlotte, how do you engage with the community, and what role does Salt & Souls play in supporting collective well-being?
Being locally owned means we’re woven into the rhythm of the Charlotte community—not just as a business, but as a space of care. Salt & Souls was never meant to be a luxury re -
treat; it was created to be accessible, grounding, and real. We engage with our community through partnerships with other small businesses, participation in local wellness events, and by offering our space for things like guided meditations, workshops, and community acupuncture clinics. We also see our role as holding space for collective exhale. Whether someone walks in carrying grief, stress, or simply the weight of a full day, our goal is to meet them with presence and give them tools to reconnect. In that way, Salt & Souls becomes more than a service—it becomes part of someone’s support system.
We believe community care is selfcare. When people feel better— breathe easier, sleep deeper, feel seen—they show up differently in their lives. That ripple effect is why we do what we do.

While most estheticians are trained with the face in mind, true skin wellness doesn't stop at the jawline. In fact, as the demand for whole-body skincare continues to rise, today's modern esthetician has a growing opportunity to bring their magic to the rest of the body. From smoothing and sculpting to detoxifying and deeply hydrating, body treatments are more than just a luxury—they're an extension of your client’s holistic self-care.
Whether you're creating your first full-body menu or looking to elevate your current offerings, here are ten body treatments every esthetician should consider incorporating into their practice:
Dry, dull skin doesn't just affect the face. Offering full body exfoliation— using sugar scrubs, salt blends, or enzymatic polishers—can instantly revive a client’s glow. This treatment not only smooths the skin but also stimulates circulation, promotes lymph flow, and enhances product absorption. It’s a luxurious, results-driven ritual perfect for seasonal changes or preevent prep.
The back is often neglected, yet it’s prone to congestion, breakouts, and rough texture. A back facial mimics a traditional facial—think double cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, mask, and hydration—customized for hard-toreach areas. Bacials are especially popular with acne-prone clients, athletes, and those preparing for weddings or vacations.
Wraps aren’t just spa indulgences— they’re therapeutic skin treatments. Depending on the chosen product (think seaweed, clay, or aloe vera), body wraps can detoxify, remineralize, soothe inflammation, or deeply moisturize. Add heat or infrared blankets to enhance results and create an immersive self-care experience.
One of the most sought-after treatments in holistic skincare, lymphatic drainage helps reduce puffiness, support immune function, and enhance detoxification. Performed manually or with specialized tools, this gentle, rhythmic technique is a powerful addition to post-operative care, sculpting protocols, or seasonal detox packages.
This more vigorous approach uses deep massage strokes, kneading, and sometimes tools (like wood therapy or fascia rollers) to break up stagnation, improve circulation, and contour the body. While results vary by client, many experience visibly toned skin and a sense of energizing release. It’s especially effective for the abdomen, thighs, arms, and hips.
Why limit your peeling expertise to the face? Professional peels can dramatically improve body skin texture and tone—especially for concerns like keratosis pilaris, body acne, or hyperpigmentation. Areas like the back, shoulders, chest, arms, and even buttocks benefit from controlled exfoliation using lactic, glycolic, or salicylic acid formulas.
Whether you're using caffeine-based creams, lymph-stimulating massage, or circulation-boosting tools, these treatments target one of the most common client concerns: cellulite. While no onesize-fits-all solution exists, consistency combined with technique can create noticeable improvement in skin tone and texture.
Not all clients need detox—some need nourishment. Hydrating body services use barrier-supportive ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, or botanical oils to treat dry, depleted skin. These are perfect for post-sun exposure, winter care, or clients with eczema-prone or sensitive skin.
“Self-care doesn’t stop at the shoulders.”
The benefits of LED light therapy aren’t limited to the face. Red, blue, and near-infrared wavelengths can support wound healing, acne management, and inflammation reduction across larger body areas. Incorporating LED panels into your treatment room creates additional value with minimal labor—and serious skin benefits.
A playful but powerful addition to your menu, booty facials combine exfoliation, extractions, and brightening
treatments to target acne, ingrowns, and discoloration on the buttocks. Ideal for summer or self-conscious clients, this service offers real results— and a lot of Instagram buzz. As a licensed esthetician, your ability to treat the skin holistically is what sets you apart. Offering body treatments is more than a business expansion—it’s a chance to meet your clients’ needs in new, deeply nourishing ways. These services support body confidence, functional skincare, and a reminder that self-care doesn’t stop at the shoulders.

s modern esthetics continues to merge beauty with wellness, lymphatic drainage and body sculpting have emerged as essential services for clients seeking both aesthetic enhancement and internal balance. These treatments not only support visible contouring and de-puffing, but also promote detoxification and deep relaxation. For estheticians, mastering these techniques offers an opportunity to provide deeply therapeutic results while enhancing your service offerings with a holistic touch.
The lymphatic system is a crucial part of the body’s immune and detoxification process. It carries lymph—a clear fluid containing white blood cells and waste—through a network of vessels and lymph nodes, helping remove toxins, support immunity, and reduce inflammation.
Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn't have a pump like the heart. It relies on muscle movement, deep breathing, and manual stimulation to circulate effectively. When stagnant, clients may experience swelling, bloating, fatigue, and dull or congested skin.
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to encourage the natural drainage of lymph. When applied to the body, it:
• Reduces water retention and puffiness
• Boosts circulation and oxygen flow
• Enhances post-operative recovery (e.g., after liposuction)
• Supports detoxification and the appearance of cellulite
• Improves skin tone and tissue health
• Abdomen (for digestion, bloating)
• Legs (for circulation and swelling)
• Arms and underarms (especially postbreast surgery)
• Back and flanks (for general drainage and relaxation)
Sculpting Techniques for Visible Results
Body sculpting takes the benefits of lymphatic drainage further by incorporating more firm, strategic movements that encourage contouring and shaping. While this does not replace medical body sculpting procedures, esthetic sculpting offers a visibly toned and tightened appearance, especially when done in a series.
• Gua sha or body stones for fascia release
• Wood therapy tools for sculpting and breaking up stagnation
• Vacuum therapy (if licensed and trained) for lymphatic stimulation
• Manual deep tissue sculpting, always starting with lymphatic drainage to prepare the tissues
When performed correctly, these techniques can dramatically enhance the silhouette, relieve muscular tension, and help the body flush stored metabolic waste.
Post-Treatment Benefits and Client Aftercare
After a lymphatic drainage and sculpting session, clients often report feeling lighter, more energized, and visibly leaner. However, results are cumulative. Encourage clients to:
• Stay well-hydrated post-treatment
• Avoid alcohol or processed foods for 24–48 hours
• Incorporate dry brushing or selfmassage at home
• Continue movement (walking, gentle stretching) to support lymph flow
Whether you work in a holistic spa, a medspa, or a solo practice, you can integrate lymphatic and sculpting techniques in several ways:
• Standalone service: Offer 45–60 min body drainage and sculpting sessions.
• Add-on: Incorporate 15–20 minutes of drainage to facials, post-surgical care, or back facials.
• Packages: Create detox or summer body packages that include multiple sessions with home care support.
• Prenatal or postnatal: Tailor drainage protocols for pregnant or postpartum clients (always with appropriate training).
As a service rooted in both science and intuition, lymphatic drainage and body sculpting allow you to support your clients’ inner and outer wellness. By cultivating these skills, you provide not just visible results, but lasting wellness benefits—and establish your expertise as a holistic beauty practitioner.

In the ever-evolving world of skincare, where new ingredients and trends come and go, the time-honored wisdom of Ayurveda continues to offer profound relevance. One of its most compelling contributions to modern holistic beauty is the use of adaptogens—botanical powerhouses that help the body adapt to stress and restore balance.
For estheticians and spa professionals, integrating adaptogens into facials, masks, and massage rituals creates more than visible results—it invites clients into a deeper experience of inner calm and outer radiance. This article explores the Ayurvedic roots of adaptogens, their skin benefits, and how to bring their healing energy into your spa offerings.
Adaptogens are herbs, roots, and fungi that support the body’s ability to manage stress, enhance immunity, and maintain homeostasis. In Ayurveda, they are revered as rasayanas—rejuvenating tonics that nourish both body and mind.
When applied topically, adaptogens address stress-induced skin issues such as sensitivity, inflammation, and premature aging. They strengthen the skin’s natural defense systems while calming the nervous system through the skin-body connection—making them invaluable in any holistic treatment.
How Adaptogens Support Skin Health
Stress is one of the biggest disruptors of healthy skin, manifesting as breakouts, dullness, redness, and loss of elasticity. Adaptogens help mitigate these effects in four key ways:
1. Calming Inflammation: Adaptogens soothe reactive or irritated skin, supporting conditions like rosacea, eczema, and hormonal breakouts.
2. Fighting Free Radicals: Antioxidantrich herbs like Amla and Tulsi help protect the skin against environmental damage and oxidative stress.
3. Balancing Oil Production: Adaptogens like Ashwagandha help regulate sebum, making them ideal for oily or acne-prone skin.
4. Supporting Collagen Production: Certain adaptogens boost collagen synthesis and skin regeneration, improving firmness and elasticity.
When used with intention, adaptogens help balance the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), creating radiant, resilient skin from the inside out.
Top Ayurvedic Adaptogens for Skin and Their Spa Applications
1. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
Known as “Indian Ginseng,” Ashwagandha is a potent anti-inflammatory and adaptogen.
• Skin Benefits: Calms irritation, reduces redness, supports collagen, and strengthens the skin barrier.
• Spa Use: Ideal in calming or anti-aging facials for stressed or inflamed skin.
2. Tulsi (Holy Basil)
This sacred Ayurvedic herb is detoxifying and energetically uplifting.
• Skin Benefits: Purifies pores, balances oil and defends against pollution and free radical damage.
• Spa Use: Best in clarifying or detox facials for acne-prone or congested skin.
3. Amla (Indian Gooseberry)
A potent source of natural Vitamin C and antioxidants.
• Skin Benefits: Promotes brightness, evens skin tone, and boosts collagen.
• Spa Use: Use in brightening or firming treatments to enhance glow and skin vitality.
4. Moringa (Moringa oleifera)
Nicknamed the “miracle tree” for good reason.
• Skin Benefits: Deeply detoxifies, hydrates, and replenishes the skin with nutrients.
• Spa Use: Excellent in hydrating or radiance-boosting facials for dry, tired, or dull skin.
Bringing Adaptogens into the Spa Experience
You don’t need to overhaul your menu to begin using adaptogens—start small and build intention into every step.
This refreshing gel-based cleanser is formulated with mandelic acid to clarify the skin and deliver deep pore cleansing without dryness or irritation. Ideal for oily, congested, or dull skin. Mandelic acid gently retexturizes the skin and lightens discoloration, while licorice root extract supports sebum regulation and provides additional brightening benefits to target uneven skin tone.
Provides a deep clean to remove impurities, buildup, and excess oil.
Brightens and evens skin tone by targeting dullness and discoloration.
Antioxidant-rich ingredients work to detoxify, refresh, and balance complexion.
Supports clearer skin by reducing breakouts and preventing congestion.
Improves texture and clarity while supporting overall barrier health.
Use serums, masks, or oils formulated with adaptogenic herbs to target client-specific concerns. For example, try a Tulsi-Ashwagandha blend for inflamed skin or an Amla-Moringa combo for brightness and nourishment.
Create a signature experience incorporating adaptogen-rich botanicals, gentle massage, and breathwork to support the skin and the nervous system.
Adaptogen-infused oils are perfect for facial or scalp massage. They enhance circulation, support detox, and help clients feel deeply grounded.
Today’s clients seek more than results—they seek meaning. Sharing the “why” behind your rituals builds trust and elevates the spa experience. Briefly explain how adaptogens support not only skin health but overall wellness by addressing stress and imbalances at a root level.
Consider using printed spa menus, verbal guidance during treatments, or short post-treatment tips to introduce clients to the benefits of each adaptogen. These thoughtful touches transform a treatment into a healing journey.
Adaptogens are not a passing trend but a return to a timeless truth: beauty is a reflection of balance. In Ayurveda, beauty and wellness are deeply interconnected, and adaptogens are one of the clearest bridges between skin health and holistic healing. By incorporating these botanicals into your spa services, you’re offering clients more than glowing skin. You’re offering resilience, radiance, and a sacred pause in a stressful world.

There are some experiences that stay with you long after they’re over, and our recent visit to the FarmHouse Fresh ranch and animal sanctuary was one of them.
Anastasia and I had the privilege of spending the day immersed in the heart of this incredible brand, and let us tell you: the compassion that flows through FarmHouse Fresh is more than just a mission, it’s a way of life.
We watched as guests wrote kind, uplifting notes that are then lovingly tucked into every outgoing order— meaning someone, somewhere in the world, receives not just skincare, but a little extra light. It’s a detail that perfectly captures the spirit of FarmHouse Fresh: thoughtful, generous, and rooted in care.
From the moment we arrived, we could feel the soul of the place. Nestled in the rolling Texas countryside, their sanctuary is home to dozens of rescued animals, each with a name, a story, and now, a safe haven to heal. Meeting them face to face was deeply moving. We saw firsthand how every product purchased helps fund the rescue and rehabilitation of these animals, and it brought a whole new depth of meaning to the products we already loved.
Their small, tight-knit team welcomed us like family. You can feel it in their smiles, their stories, and the way they speak about the animals, the products, and each other.
FarmHouse Fresh is more than a skincare company, it’s a movement of love, healing, and conscious beauty. We left feeling inspired, grateful, and even more committed to supporting brands that lead with heart.
If you ever get the chance to visit, we can’t recommend it enough. And the next time you receive one of their dreamy products, know that there’s a whole lot of kindness behind it.

What first drew you to the skincare field, and how has your career evolved since becoming licensed in 2008?
My passion for skincare began long before I became a licensed esthetician in 2008. From the start, I was fascinated by the science behind skin health and the transformative power of personalized treatments. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in leading medspas across New Jersey, New York, and now Miami, gaining expertise in advanced skincare treatments, medical aesthetics, and cutting-edge technologies.
How has your personal experience with melasma shaped the way you treat it professionally?
Melasma is more than just a skin condition—it’s a journey, one that I deeply understand both professionally and personally. As someone who suffers from Melasma myself, I know firsthand the emotional and physical challenges that come with managing this complex pigmentation disorder. My experience has shaped my holistic, results-driven approach to treatment, blending science, technology, and lifestyle awareness to achieve long-term improvement.
What do you believe are the biggest misconceptions people have about treating melasma?
One of the biggest misconceptions about Melasma is that it can be corrected after one single treatment, but in reality, it’s a condition that requires long-term commitment. My philosophy is to avoid unnecessary treatments that cause inflammation and worsen pigmentation. Instead, I focus on progressive, controlled solutions while giving my clients the tools and knowledge to maintain results.
How do you approach melasma differently than other pigmentation issues in your practice?
My goal is to empower everyone with personalized solutions, realistic expectations, and the confidence to love their skin at every stage of their journey. While skincare is the foundation, in-office treatments help accelerate results and improve skin health when done strategically. I customize treatments based on my clients’ skin type, severity of Melasma, and how their skin reacts.
Why is medical-grade skincare more effective than over-the-counter products for melasma?
When it comes to treating Melasma, not all skincare is created equal. While overthe-counter (OTC) products may offer mild brightening effects, medical grade skincare is essential for effectively managing and reducing hyperpigmentation. Melasma is a complex, chronic condition that requires targeted ingredients at the right potency, delivery system, and formulation to work at a deeper, more effective level.
Are laser treatments effective for melasma, or do they risk making it worse in the long run?
I understand that many people seek out lasers and other heat based treatments hoping for a quick fix, and in reality it just breaks up existing pigment without stopping the overproduction of melanin. However, when it comes to Melasma, there is no shortcut, only consistent, targeted treatments and longterm maintenance will lead to sustainable results.
When treating Melasma consistently, noticeable improvement can be seen within a few weeks, but long-term control requires ongoing maintenance and trigger management. Factors like sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations, stress, heat, inflammation, and diet all influence melanin production and must be controlled for lasting results.
What role do antioxidants and sunscreen play in both the treatment and prevention of melasma?
There are a few core products that are necessary to correct hyperpigmentation and prevent future damage. Antioxidants play a very important role by reducing oxidative stress, controlling inflammation, and preventing further pigmentation. Melasma is often trig-
gered by UV exposure, pollution, and heat, all of which generate free radicals that stimulate melanin production. Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals, helping to prevent hyperpigmentation from worsening.
The next core product that prevents melanin overproduction and reduces inflammation, is a medical grade Broadspectrum sunscreen 30SPF or higher. Playing a crucial part, as it protects against UV rays, visible light (blue light), and infrared radiation (heat).
Why is a personalized, long-term approach essential for managing melasma successfully?
There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Melasma is a complex and chronic condition, requiring a personalized, science-backed approach that addresses both skin health and lifestyle triggers. Unfortunately, there are many misleading ads out there promising unrealistic results. My treatment plan is designed to fade existing pigmentation, prevent new discoloration, and strengthen the skin barrier for long-term results.

My journey into the esthetics industry began with my passion for makeup. Twenty years ago, dedicated makeup schools weren’t as common, so I sought guidance from a local beauty school advisor. She introduced me to the esthetics program, explaining that it included makeup training alongside skincare. Intrigued, I decided to enroll, thinking it would be the perfect way to blend my interests.
Everything changed when I experienced my first facial and started diving deeper into the science of skin and skincare. I fell in love with the process of transforming the skin and, more importantly, how it made women feel confident and beautiful. That moment solidified my purpose—to create positive, meaningful changes in how people see and feel about themselves. Since then, my career has evolved, but my passion for making others feel their best has remained at the heart of everything I do.
With over 20 years in the beauty industry, what keeps you passionate about this field?
With over 20 years in the beauty industry, my passion continues to grow because of the incredible impact I can make in my clients’ lives. I absolutely love helping clients feel more confident in their own skin—whether it's through relaxing their nervous system or enhancing their natural beauty with facial massage.
Facial massage is especially close to my heart. It’s not just about relaxation—it lifts the skin and tissues, boosts circulation, and creates a radiant glow with the power of my hands. Seeing the visible and emotional transformation in my clients is deeply rewarding.
Beyond the treatments, building meaningful relationships with my clients keeps my work fulfilling. I cherish the trust and connections we develop over time. I also stay energized by my constant desire to learn and grow, exploring new techniques, products, and innovations to bring the
best care to my clients. This industry is always evolving, and I’m thrilled to evolve with it.
Tell us about the growth and evolution of Luna Beauty Studio under your leadership.
Luna Beauty Studio has grown tremendously under the leadership of myself and my amazing business partners, Elizabeth Pritchard and Francesca Boren. What started as a small team of five has blossomed into a thriving team of about 20 talented individuals. We’ve worked hard to create a space where clients feel welcome and at home—a place where they can relax, connect, and leave feeling their best. Equally important is the culture we’ve fostered among our team. Collaboration and support are at the heart of everything we do, with everyone working together, staying on top of trends, and helping each other grow.
This journey has been an incredible blend of teamwork, innovation, and shared vision, and we’re so proud of the community we’ve built at Luna Beauty Studio.
What inspired you to create your Oneon-One Advanced Facial Massage Techniques training manual, and how has it impacted your staff's professional development?
The inspiration for creating my Oneon-One Advanced Facial Massage Techniques training manual came from my passion for sharing the transformative power of facial massage and the incredible educators who have guided me in my journey. I’ve had the privilege of learning from industry leaders such as Bethany Kristiansen and The Fix Method, whose expertise in advanced techniques like buccal massage and lymphatic drainage has been instrumental in shaping my own practice. Their mentorship inspired me to create a resource that could elevate my team’s skills—and other estheticians'— while contributing to the growth of our industry.
Another driving factor was the clear gap I’ve observed in esthetic education. Many schools provide the basics but often fall short when it comes to advanced, hands-on training. I wanted to bridge that gap by creating a
resource that empowers estheticians to elevate their skills, enhance client care, and ultimately stand out in this competitive industry.
The manual offers a customizable approach, helping estheticians refine their techniques, understand the anatomy behind the methods, and enhance the overall client experience. Watching my team and others grow—and seeing the positive feedback from clients—has been incredibly fulfilling.
This project reflects my belief in collaboration, continuous education, and paying forward the knowledge I’ve gained. I’m honored to give back to my team and the industry, while celebrating the guidance and inspiration of those who’ve helped me along the way.
Which professional skincare lines do you enjoy working with most, and why?
We work with several professional skincare lines, each chosen for its ability to address specific client needs and deliver exceptional results. For acne-prone clients, we rely on Face Reality Skincare, which has been instrumental in helping them achieve clearer, healthier skin. Their formulations are highly effective and consistent, making them a trusted option for managing acne.
For our anti-aging guests, we use Circadia and Cosmedix—both offer a beautiful blend of products designed to rejuvenate and nourish the skin. Their combination of science-backed ingredients and luxurious textures makes them favorites among clients seeking a youthful glow.
Recently, we added Be Blessed Skincare to our offerings, and we couldn’t be more excited. This line is crafted by a local esthetician with over 20 years of experience, whose dedication to highquality formulations is truly inspiring. I deeply admire her vision and am proud to support her by sharing these incredible products with our clients.
At the same time, we remain open to exploring other professional product lines that align with our vision and prioritize high-quality, cosmeceutical-grade ingredients. Continuously evolving our offerings ensures we can provide the best care possible for every client.
You're passionate about mentoring aspiring estheticians. What advice would you give to someone starting their career in esthetics? Similarly, what advice would you give to more seasoned professionals?
For those starting their career in esthetics:
My advice is to stay curious and never stop learning. Begin by mastering the basics, as a strong foundation in skincare techniques and knowledge is essential for building confidence. I also believe it’s incredibly beneficial to work for someone early in your career to gain experience, guidance, and mentorship before venturing out on your own. Learning from seasoned professionals and seeing how a successful business operates can set you up for long-term success.
Additionally, take full advantage of the many free resources available to grow your knowledge. Reading trade magazines like LNE is invaluable. They’re filled with insights, trends, and inspiration from industry leaders that can help you gain more knowledge and confidence. I’m constantly reading and learning, and I truly believe that staying informed and open to new ideas is key to thriving in this ever-evolving field. Whether it’s attending webinars, joining professional groups, exploring online resources, or attending trade shows—there are endless opportunities to expand your skills.
Most importantly, stay passionate, embrace growth, and never lose sight of why you started: to help others feel confident and cared for.
Focus on communication. Your ability to connect with clients is just as important as your technical skills. Listen actively, understand their concerns, and educate them about their skin.
Be patient with growth. Building a loyal clientele takes time and consistency. Stay professional, be patient, and focus on delivering quality results with care.
Advice for seasoned professionals: I encourage you to continue evolving and embracing change. The beauty industry is always advancing, and staying ahead means being open to innovation and ongoing education. Refining your niche can set you apart—explore advanced techniques like buccal massage or lymphatic drainage to enhance your service offerings.
Share your knowledge with others. Mentoring newer estheticians or collaborating with fellow professionals can be incredibly fulfilling. Building strong client relationships and providing exceptional care remain just as important as ever. Lastly, don’t forget to prioritize your own well-being. Balancing work and self-care ensures you can continue giving your best to your clients and your craft.
What qualities do you believe are essential for an esthetician to succeed in today's competitive beauty industry?
The beauty industry is constantly evolving with new techniques, products, and technologies. Successful estheticians must stay curious and committed to ongoing education. Being adaptable to trends and advancements ensures you remain relevant and competitive. Building trust and understanding with clients is key. An esthetician must actively listen to client concerns, explain treatments clearly, and recommend personalized solutions. This helps foster strong relationships and client loyalty. A genuine passion for making others feel beautiful and cared for will shine through and set you apart.
Mastering foundational skills, maintaining precision in your work, and staying consistent in delivering high-quality services are critical.
Whether you’re working for a spa or running your own business, understanding marketing, client retention, and financial management is essential in today’s competitive market. Cultivating resilience to handle challenges and setbacks is equally important.
How do you approach professional development meetings with your team to ensure they remain goal-oriented?
At Luna Beauty Studio, we hold quarterly professional development meetings with our team to check in on their

progress and goals—both professional and personal. We believe in fostering an environment where our staff feels supported not only in their careers but also in their overall well-being.
During these meetings, we discuss key metrics like sales, retail performance, and client retention to identify areas for growth and celebrate achievements. Beyond the numbers, we make it a priority to listen to each team member’s aspirations, whether it’s mastering a new technique, purchasing a home, traveling, attending a specific class, or finding more balance between work and life.
As leaders, our goal is to provide the resources, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive. Whether it’s funding education, offering mentorship, or simply being a sounding board, we strive to create a collaborative space where everyone feels empowered to grow. These meetings aren’t just about accountability—they’re about connection and showing our team that we’re invested in their success.
How do you personalize treatments to cater to individual skin concerns?
At Luna Beauty Studio, we prioritize a holistic approach to skincare, tailoring each treatment to the unique needs of our clients. A thorough consultation is the foundation of our personalization process. During this time, we evaluate skin concerns, lifestyle factors, and goals to craft a plan that addresses both immediate issues and long-term skin health.
We incorporate various modalities to enhance our treatments, such as facial massage techniques, lymphatic drainage, and advanced tools like LED therapy, microcurrent, or gua sha. One of our signature offerings is our 90- or 120-minute all-inclusive facial—a completely customizable experience designed to give clients everything their skin needs in one session.
This approach ensures that every client receives a treatment that is as unique as they are, blending clinical results with relaxation for an experience that nourishes both the skin and the soul.
In your opinion, what's the most overlooked aspect of skincare that clients should focus on?
Many clients feel pressured to run straight to Botox or aggressive procedures without first building a healthy foundation for their skin. While these treatments can offer quick fixes, it's crucial to start with good skincare and professional facial massage techniques that address concerns more naturally. Building a solid routine can delay— or even reduce—the need for invasive procedures.
Unfortunately, many people also fall into the trap of trusting unlicensed influencers or trendy advice online. Clients often turn to “viral” products with questionable ingredients, leading to skin issues or wasted money. It’s essential to seek guidance from licensed professionals who understand skin physiology and can recommend personalized solutions tailored to individual needs.
Lastly, clients often overlook the importance of maintaining their skin’s barrier health. Using too many harsh actives or frequently switching products can cause irritation and sensitivity. A balanced, minimal approach with quality ingredients is far more effective than following every trend. Skincare should focus on long-term health—not just quick fixes.
How do you balance clinical results with the luxury experience clients seek?
At Luna Beauty Studio, we strive to create a perfect blend of relaxation and results-driven skincare. While we address our clients’ skin concerns with effective, clinical-grade products and treatments, we never lose sight of the importance of providing a luxurious, elevated experience.
From the moment clients walk through our doors, we focus on creating a calming environment where they feel completely cared for. Our treatments incorporate elements like advanced facial massage, aromatherapy, sound therapy, various modalities, and soothing techniques that relax the nervous system and enhance the overall experience. Even when using advanced tools or result-driven products, we ensure the process is gentle and luxuriating.
We also go above and beyond to personalize every detail of the service so clients feel special and valued. Whether it’s a warm oil scalp massage with jade combs (Shirodhara coming soon!), a warm aromatherapy towel, herbal steam infusion, foot soak, or simply listening closely to their concerns, our goal is to offer extraordinary care. Clients leave not only with glowing, healthier skin but also feeling deeply rejuvenated and appreciated.
Where do you see the future of the beauty industry heading in terms of education and innovation?
I believe the future of the beauty industry lies in a continued focus on holistic skincare and wellness, along with AI advancements in facial modalities. Clients are becoming more mindful of how internal health and product ingredients impact their skin. Nutrition is increasingly recognized as essential to skincare. Professionals are now educating clients on how a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and healthy fats can enhance skin from the inside out.
Clients are also becoming more aware of how inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and food sensitivities contribute to conditions like acne and rosacea. This knowledge is crucial for estheticians providing comprehensive care.
Education in esthetics may soon include deeper insights into nutrition and its impact on the skin. Skincare treatments will evolve to include multisensory experiences that engage the skin, mind, and body. Techniques like Hadado massage—originating in Japan and blending traditional Japanese methods with modern skincare—will become more popular. Clients are increasingly seeking treatments that reduce stress, lift and tone, and boost circulation naturally. Consumers are also scrutinizing skincare ingredients more closely, seeking products free from harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. This shift creates an opportunity for estheticians to educate their clients on the benefits of high-quality, active ingredients that are clinically effective and support the skin’s natural barrier.
Innovation will continue to merge the best of technology and nature. Skincare will increasingly draw from ancient traditions, like Ayurveda and herbal remedies, and combine them with modern science. In the future, estheticians will
offer treatments that integrate holistic approaches, AI technologies, and nutrition-based strategies. This integration will lead to a more personalized, results-driven experience—addressing both external skin concerns and internal health. It’s an exciting future where the beauty industry will support overall well-being through truly holistic, innovative care.
How do you incorporate holistic practices, like Reiki and nutrition, into your services?
Incorporating holistic practices like nutrition and Reiki into my services involves a mindful approach tailored to each client’s needs. While I don’t offer full nutritional counseling, I do educate clients on how certain foods may contribute to inflammation or hormonal imbalances that affect their skin. I also recommend supplements to support women’s health. I believe that even a simple awareness of these factors can make a significant impact on overall skin health.
As for Reiki, I don’t incorporate it into every session, but I offer it when a client is open to receiving it. It’s about the energy exchange, stress reduction, and creating a sense of calm. For those who are receptive, I bring in positive, uplifting energy to enhance relaxation and healing during the treatment. The key is ensuring the experience aligns with the client’s mindset and openness to these practices.
If you could share one piece of advice with your younger self when you first started in this industry, what would it be?
If I could share one piece of advice with my younger self, it would be this: Have confidence in yourself and trust that with determination and hard work, you can achieve anything. Professional growth takes time, so be patient—it’s okay to fail. Failure makes you stronger
and more resilient. You will learn and grow from it.
Set goals, stay focused, and know that your experiences—both good and bad—will shape your future in meaningful ways. Believe in yourself, and don’t let self-doubt or others’ opinions hold you back.
What legacy do you hope to leave in the esthetics industry?
I aim to leave a legacy of empowering others in the esthetics industry through education. I want to be remembered for helping others realize their full potential—guiding them toward success with a strong foundation in both technical expertise and confidence.
I’m passionate about creating new ideas and treatments. My goal is to leave behind a legacy where I’ve not only elevated my own career and company but have helped shape the future of the esthetics industry through mentorship, creativity, and passion.
