Engineering technicians apply the principles and theories of science, engineering and mathematics to solve problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, and customer service. Most engineering technicians work regular hours in laboratories, offices, electronics shops, or industrial plants. Service representatives usually spend much of their time working in customers' establishments. Some may be exposed to electrical shock hazards from equipment. Engineering technicians may work in civil, electrical, industrial or mechanical, as well as other fields of engineering.

Earnings Earnings depend on the education, experience and specialty of the employee and whether the employer is in the private sector or the federal government. Engineering technicians advance by successful on-the-job experience and by obtaining the necessary special training.
