Come on out to the open gyms on Family Day, ski or snow shoe with the family and enjoy show shoe on the disc course all winter long. The cold weather will seem to go rather quick. ON Line Registration – Go to our website and click on Register NOW button to sign up via Blue Sombrero In-Person- Registration forms and computer access are available in our office during our hours of operation. Cash, check, or credit card are accepted. Please bring exact change. 24 Hour Drop Box- We have a drop box conveniently located outside our office doors. Registrations forms can be securely placed in our drop box any time of day (or night). Mail in- You may have received our registration information via email or through our website. General Policy Information Concussion information: In 2011 the State of Wisconsin passed Act 172. Which requires any child under 18, who participates in an organized athletic game or competition, to receive information about concussions and their symptoms. Annually parents and the athletes must return a signed copy of the “Parent and Athlete Agreement” prior to their participation in a rec sport. Weather Cancelations: In the case that school may be canceled due to bad weather the Recreation Department will cancel all activities for that day. Weekend cancelations will be done via email, Facebook posts or contact from your child’s coach. Residency: For program enrollment residents are those who reside within the Lake Mills Area School District boundaries, open enroll to LMASD, or work within the school district. Residents pay the fee directly before the “R”. The second fee listed is for non-residents “NR”. Non-Residents are those who do not reside within the Lake Mills Area School District or attend school at LMASD. Residents support the school district through tax-dollars, while non-residents pay to participant through higher registration fees. Non-Residents will be responsible for paying a minimum of an additional $10 per activity and participant they register. Insurance: The Lake Mills Area School District and Lake Mills Recreation Department do not provide medical or accident insurance for any program participants both residents or nonresidents. Participants are strongly encouraged to obtain their own insurance coverage prior to participating in programs. Photo Policy: Participants or their parents (if participant is under 18) permit the taking of photos, audio and videotapes during Recreation Department activities for publication and use as the Recreation Department deems necessary. If you do not want a picture or video taken of yourself, please inform the director or instructor prior to the start of the program. 5


Fees/Late Registration: Fees are based off of the minimum amount of participants needed to successfully run a program we will do our very best to anticipate needs for now and the needs for the future of our programs so that we may set our prices accordingly. To ensure proper planning we may set deadlines for our programs. Those who register after a set deadline will have to pay an additional $10 late fee and may also run the risk of not being able to participate if the program is full. If you don’t hear from us, that’s good! After signing up for a program you will receive an email form the Blue Sombrero website. If you do not provide us with an email you will may not receive a reminder. Please be sure to mark your calendar with the dates for each program. If a program requires specific information we may send out an informational sheet via email. You may also check your Blue Sombrero account for a list of all past registrations from your account. Notice of Non-Discrimination: No person shall, on the basis of sex, race, national origin, ancestry, creed, marital or parental status, age or disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity, including employment. Age/Grade Requirements: All youth program age restrictions will be based on their age as of September 1 of the current school year, unless otherwise specified. All grade requirements will be based on the 2016-17 school year. Summer break will officially mark the new school year. Age and grade requirements are set to benefit all children and make instruction easier for the program leader.

Events Knickerbocker Candle Light Snowshoe and Ski Lake Mills Wellness Coalition Day/Date: Friday, February 2 Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Location: Korth Park, UPPER SHELTER Fee: FREE!!! Concessions will be served for a small fee, money raised will help support the LMES School Garden and Greenhouse Project Walk the trails of Korth park by candle light! This year you can enjoy two lit trails as you explore Korth Park at night! Then relax next to the fire pit and enjoy some popcorn and hot cocoa or cider. This event is a partnership between the Lake Mills Wellness Coalition, Jefferson County Parks Department, Journey of Life Wellness Studio, Fort Health Care, and the Lake Mills Recreation Department.

Knickerbocker Festival Activites in the Park and Family Games - Lake Mills Wellness Coalition Day/Date: Saturday, February 3 Time: 11:00 am - 2:30 pm Location: Commons Park Fee: FREE!!! Have some family fun in the park during the 2018 Knickerbocker Ice Festival. We will have fun snow games and free snow shoe rentals for both youth and adults to try. We will also be operating the annual Knickerbocker Ice Festival Games! 7


Open Gym Winter Family Fun Day Day/Dates: Sunday, February 11th Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Location: LMES Gym Fee: FREE Fight cabin fever with this new one day event! Thanks to the overwhelming support from our sponsors we will be running this FREE family event. We will have inflatables, out-door yard games, Railyard, light concessions and more! There will be plenty to do for the whole family!

Middle and High School Event Flash Light Egg HUNT- Middle and High School age Grade: 5 - 12 Day/Date: Friday, March 23 Time: 8:00 pm Location: LMHS Football Practice Field Fee: $5 pre-register, $10 for the day of Get set, grab your flashlight and GO!!! Join us for the second annual flash light egg hunt! We will have over 1000 eggs and other prizes! This event is meant for both Middle and High School Students. Eggs will be scattered throughout the High School Practice field. The egg hunt will start at 8:00 pm on the dot. All kids who pre-register will be entered into a drawing for door prizes and the GRAND PRIZE!

Adult and High School Ultimate Frisbee - Indoor Ages: 16+ Day/Date: Thursday, January 4 - May 24 Time: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm Location: LMMS GYM Fee: FREE! Have you heard of Ultimate Frisbee? Imagine combining the football field with goals at each end, the constant movement of soccer and a Frisbee! This is a non-contact sport that easy to learn and fun for all ages. All games will be co-ed and teams will be divided evenly each week. High School Players must be 16 or older. All participants must fill out a waiver prior to participation, if under 18 a parent must sign the waiver.

This league is for both recreational players and seasoned veterans alike. Game times will be based off of the number of teams that sign up. Adult Basketball Open Gyms This is your opportunity to stay and play some basketball, meet some new friends and get some exercise in! This is a free program open to all adults interested in playing pick-up style basketball. New teams will be formed weekly. As this is an ongoing program be sure to frequently check the facilities calendar for possible time/location changes or cancelations. All participants must fill out a liability waiver prior to participation. Waivers will be available for print on line or hard copies are available at each open gym

SNOW SHOE RENTALS AVAILABE AT THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT! Snow shoeing is a great winter activity that can be as intense or as easy as you would like to make it. We have several sizes available for the whole family to rent! We offer snowshoes of all sizes for people 50 pounds up to 250 pounds. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. Day rental: 24 Hours $5.00/Adult $3.00/Child

Weekend Rental: Friday - Monday $8.00/Adult $5.00/Child

All Registrations are due no later than Wednesday on the week of the trip. All participants are required to have a signed Liability waiver to each completed for each trip, NO EXCEPTIONS. Please arrive at the school by 3:45 at the very latest. Students are responsible for all money or positions they bring on this trip. Lockers are available for rent on site, quarters are required. Minimum 20 participants is needed to run this trip. Chaperone Information: Adult Chaperones are needed to make this program safe. Each trip requires 4 chaperones for each age group. We will need one adult to drive separately in the event that we would need to take a student home early. All skiing/snowboarding chaperones will receive a free lift ticket and will have the bus fee subtracted. Chaperones will receive more information on their duties and responsibilities prior to the trip date.

Recreation/Optimist 3v3 Basketball League Registration Deadline: December 29 This is an in-house 3v3 league designed to follow the Optimist/Rec Skills and Drills program. Each week participants will be divided into new teams and spend time practicing followed by games. The last week of the season we will participate in a tournament. This program includes a t-shirt. Location: LMES Gym It’s back! The annual Optimist Tri Star basketball skills competition is run by the Lake Mills Optimist Club. Participants will show off their skills while passing, shooting and dribbling their way through the competition. The top participant in each age bracket will qualify for the State Competition! No preregistration is required. This event is FREE!!!

During this program participants will utilize equipment like the vault, low/high beams, uneven bars, parallel bars, and others. Participants will work on balance, strength and coordination while having tons of fun! Classes are led by Laura Wethall a long time gymnastics and tumbling instructor for the Lake Mills Recreation Department.

Tiny Tumblers Preschool Gymnastics Registration Deadline: February 16 Age: 3 - 4 Day: Fridays, March 2 - March 23 Time: 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm OR 6:45 pm - 7:15 pm Location: LMES GYM Fee: $18/R ; $28/NR Have fun with your child teaching them the basics of gymnastics and tumbling. Bull’s-eye! The Lake Mills Recreation Department is introducing the NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) program. Nearly everyone can enjoy the success in archery. In this program we will learn how to determine a student’s dominant eye, how to make a string bow, and the eleven steps to archery success. We will provide Genesis bows and arrows to be used by all students.

Participants will work independently on improving their skills with unlimited shooting. The instructor will work with each student to help perfect their skills! Participants must complete the Intermediate level prior to signing up for club. Get your-self ready for NASP tournaments or hunting.

This league is designed to help develop strong confident volleyball players. The serving line and net height have been altered to help give players a higher chance to succeed. Teams at any given grade level may field multiple teams. Participants will play against teams from surrounding communities. Volunteer coaches will set practice schedules. League T-shirt included. We will host 1 mass practice on Sunday, January 14 @LMMS Gym. In this class, participants will go over the proper techniques to SET them up for success. This program will cover passing, setting, hitting and footwork skills. Spring Rec Soccer 5K-5 Grade Registration Deadline: March 2 Have a ball with this recreational based program for children in 5K5 grade. Players will have fun while learning the fundamentals, rules and skills of the game. Practices will start 2 weeks before the season. The games will be held at LMHS Practice fields off of E. Lake Park Place on Saturday mornings. Participants will be contacted by their coach with league schedules & team information. Grade/Division 5K/1 (U6)

Description The Pee Wee league will play on a condensed field. They will field a 3v3 team with no goal keeper using a #3 soccer ball. This league is focused on fun and learning the game of soccer. The Youth league will play on a condensed field. They will field a 4v4 team with no goal keeper. Scores will not be kept, this league is focused on fun and learning the game of soccer. This is a more advanced level of play. They will field a 6v6 team with a goal keeper.

Baseball & Softball Open Gyms Dust off your glove and warm up that throwing arm. This is a great chance to get yourself warmed up for softball before the weather starts warm up! Pre-registration not required. But all participants must fill out a waiver prior to participation. Waivers will be available to print on line or at each open gym. Volunteer coaches are needed to provide a safe and productive atmosphere. Only indoor balls can be used in the gym. No ball drills be held on the new gym floor.

Youth Baseball T-Ball Basic Skills Registration Deadline: May 18 Grade: 4K Day: Tuesday Dates: June 12 - July 17 (no games 7/3) Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm Location: Wallace Park Baseball Complex Fee: $20/R ; $30/NR T-Ball Basic Skills is a FUNdamentals program geared towards teaching players the basics of baseball in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Players will work on batting, catching, throwing, fielding, base running and more! Participants will also have a chance to play in a non-competitive scrimmage at the end of the season. Parent participation is highly encouraged. In this league coaches will pitch to the batters. The focus of this league is on skill development and sportsmanship over winning. No scores will be kept, and both coaches will assist in making any calls on the field. Volunteer coaches are needed to help run this program. Coaches will contact their players with a practice schedule.

L-Cats Baseball Camp Registration Deadline: February 23

Week 1 participants will gain the a foundation in hitting skills. Each kid will get to hit in the batting cage and have one on one instruction from LMHS players. The goal of the camp is for the kids to leave understanding basic form of hitting and fielding. Please have your child bring a glove. If they have their own bat they are allowed to bring that as well or one will be provided. Week 2 we will work on pitching development and defensive skills. The kids will learn the basic steps of pitching form and will be able to throw to a varsity catcher for a live bullpen session. The goal of the camp is for all the kids to understand basic mechanics of pitching and learn the proper defensive skills. LMRD Little League Baseball program is open to both boys and girls who are currently in grades 3-6. Teams will participate in the Eastern Suburban Youth Baseball League which consists of the following surrounding communities. Transportation is required. American League is a recreational traveling league (parent transportation required). This is a development league with rules in place designed to encourage skill development in preparation for National League. ESYBL National League (NL) Registration Deadline: March 9 National League is a recreational traveling league (parent transportation required). NL is played more like the traditional game of baseball. Participants in this league will be using more advanced baseball skills and they will learn different strategies used in the game. Little League Spring Training Day LMRD will be hosting a mandatory “Training Day� for all kids interested in playing in American or National League baseball. American League (9-10) 12:15 pm - 1:45 pm, National League (11-12) 1:45 pm - 3:15 pm. Coaches will be selecting teams directly following the event. For more information on the selection process you may contact the Recreation Department.

Pony-Teener League Baseball Registration Deadline: March 9 LMRD Pony & Teener Baseball program both participate in Travel Leagues (parent transportation required). Players will be divided into teams based on their grade level. There will be a coaches and advisory committee meeting on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 pm in the LMMS commons. The Teener program with help from the coaches will use a FLEX player schedule. This schedule will maximize playing time for the kids. Coaches will also be able to pull up or down to make sure all games can be played with a full roster. A mandatory parent meeting/uniform handout will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 7:15 pm in the LMMS Commons. Teeners participate in a higher level competitive league. Team practices and league schedule will be set by the coaches. Commitment, attitude, skill level and sportsmanship will be considered when determining playing time. The Pony Baseball program participates in a 7th grade only Baseball League. This is a transitional league, games are played on a modified field with 80 ft bases and 54 ft pitching rubber. Home games will be played at Wallace Park or Campus Field. Player uniforms will be provided for all leagues. Dates: Late May thru late July Ages: 13 - 14 (Grades 7, 8, and 9) Fee: $85/R ; $95/NR

Participants should use the main entrance to the school. Walking maps of the High School including distances and select routs inside of the school.

Day Trips: LMRD will be sponsoring day trips for the older adults in the Lake Mills community. Each trip will include the cost of the ticketed event and travel. Participants may bring additional money to make purchases during these events. Participants will be picked up and dropped off at the Lake Mills High School auditorium parking lot on the South side of the building, please arrive 15 minutes early. Trips will cost between $15 and $50 per person and a minimum of 10 registrations are need in order for the trip to run. Interested in learning a new sport? or are you a seasoned disc golfer who wants to hone their skills? Disc golf is played with the same rules as golf but instead of a ball and club, individuals throw Frisbees (called discs). Disc golf league is open to all ages and registration includes a bag tag, t-shirt, registration to the city championship, and any clinics that are held throughout the season. If you're worried about competing against others more or less skilled than you, don't worry, there are two leagues. Handicapped and Bag Tag league.       
