Corsham Town Hall New for this year, Corsham’s Town Hall has turned itself into a venue for the Arts Trail. It’s hosting the work of Jonathan Sanders in the Council Chamber; Anya Beaumont (who’s also running workshops and taking part in the Big Draw) on the stage of the Main Hall, and a number of up-and-coming young artists from within the Trail’s area who have all deservedly won the right to have their work exhibited. Earlier this year, all local schools were invited to enter the Peacock Arts Trail Youth Competition, organised by Corsham Town Council. The theme: Mythical Peacocks, based on the glorious – and noisy – creatures that walk the streets of the town. There were no restrictions on what media had to be used so entries could be painted, ceramic, printed, drawn, stitched, sculpted… the choice was down to each artist. The 3

only rule was to let their imaginations run wild – and they have done exactly that. After a difficult judging process given all the talent on display, the exhibition, with help from A-Level student Ellen Sanders as curator, has taken shape wonderfully and an ostentation of mythical peacocks is now in residence at the Town Hall throughout the Trail. Come and be dazzled by the colours – and the talent. t 01249 702130 e towncouncil@corsham.gov.uk w www.corsham.gov.uk Corsham Town Hall, High Street, Corsham, SN13 0EZ

Jonathan Sanders Painting, Sculpture

I am a site responsive artist. Using photography, drawing and sculpture, I make pieces that are developed from details often overlooked by the casual observer. I like colour and humour. I hope my work shows this. I studied at Bath Academy in Corsham and have been an illustrator ever since. Lately I have been doing more of ‘my own thing’ - painting local scenes (Bath, Corsham, etc), populated by furry creatures - or just cows.

Corsham Arts Society has over 40 members, many of whom are practising artists who will be showing their work as part of the Peacock Arts Trail. Original artwork including paintings, ceramics and textiles, prints and cards will be for sale. Corsham Arts Society meets on the 2nd Thursday, 7.45 pm of each month at The Pound Arts Centre, Corsham. The varied programme consists of talks and demonstrations by practising artists and makers. Ceramics is the medium I use to describe natural elements, together with found objects, and always a sense of movement.

Clare works with found objects to create pieces that draw on the tensions between delicacy and underlying sinister messages. Her work often holds a preoccupation with childhood memories and nostalgia and these themes are explored through the reoccurring use of dolls house furniture and insects. My paintings are celebrations of elements I find directly in the natural world around me. These things reveal valuable poetic truths , I feel. The colours are often rich and vibrant, sometimes combined with overlays of coloured crayon drawing. Each idea is new and fresh, so working is exciting and exacting.

We are a small group of ladies who share a love and interest in glass. We fuse, paint, copperfoil and create stained glass panels.

My art incorporates textiles with cameraless photography inspired by nature. Using the practise of cyanotype blueprints which I transform into lampshades and jewellery. Cyanotype is a historical photographic process that was popularised by Anna Atkins when she used the process to record botanicals for her studies.

I have developed my approach to printmaking by breaking away from the traditional methods of silkscreen. Retired builder fulfilling lifetime ambition to become a watercolour artist. Hopefully new studio in my garden will be completed in time for the Peacock Trail. Photographer Andy Rose will also exhibit at my venue.

Joy has a background in civil engineering. This brings a level of detail to her landscape watercolours. Painting for more than 20 years has developed her love of local architecture and landscape. Canals, cottages, bridges, set in beautiful countryside make up the main body of her work with a few works inspired from elsewhere.

I am a full-time art teacher and mother of 2 who is painting in my spare time. I am presently working on a range of mixed-media pieces, using the inspiration that comes from the colours, forms and textures found in the natural environment.

I am a self-employed carpenter who enjoys making bespoke creations from reclaimed wood in my spare time. I have made a range of pieces that include mirror frames, tables, quirky side-tables and wine racks. I have also got a range of turned wooden bowls. My interest lies in the working with the natural form and grains found in the wood itself.

Chloe Yandell is a contemporary artist. She studied Fine Art at Bath Spa University College and is a trained art teacher. She enjoys working responsively to a variety of media with strong conceptual undertones.

Grey Clouds & Silver Linings Jewellery, Glass

Originally, I started with watercolour painting then got into doing various crafts. More recently I have been concentrating on art silver clay and glass, making jewellery and charms.

I revisit the memories and emotions associated with vintage ceramics, using press moulding and hand building techniques; my work is heavily textured & spontaneous. Each piece is fired 5 times to achieve its distinctive patina using a collage of textural surfaces, slips, glazes, transfers and lustres.

Chris is a watercolour artist and illustrator. He will be showing a collection of original book illustrations, drawings and signed limited edition prints. During the open studios he will be working on paintings for his upcoming show at Galerie Daniel Maghen, Paris.

John Harland Painting

Jewellery

Drawing, Digital Art

I became a goldsmiths apprentice when I left school and have been making jewellery ever since. Now my daughter is at school I work from my studio in my garden were I make silver jewellery. I take my inspiration from the local area and work with customers to come up with unique designs.

After graduating from University in Bath, I spent many happy years drawing Santa and snowmen for Christmas cards and crackers before finally going freelance and fulfilling my dream to illustrate children’s books. I also take children’s portrait commissions through my new venture ‘Picture Book Portraits’.

“My first impression of John Harland’s paintings at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford is of early Hockney but with bolder colour. Like Hockney’s pop art paintings, Harland exploits the visual rhetoric of graffiti. The graffiti in these works seems childlike, lending them a naive air.” - The Royal Academy Magazine

Since graduating from Bristol University with a degree in Fine Art Printmaking, my work has evolved towards constructing life-size animal heads. Inspired by African relatives trophy walls and my travels in Africa. Colour is an important element in both my animal heads and my Gouache painting of fish and birds.

I am a commercial artist and illustrator. My work is 90% commissions from architects and developers who want images of proposed buildings. However I also paint portraits, aircraft, and historical subjects. I am a member of The Art Workers Guild and The Guild of Aviation Artists.

Dominic recently moved to Wiltshire from Snowdonia, where he worked for 25 years. His art draws upon a wide variety of cross-cultural sources: from his African birthplace to nature and ancient history. He uses a chainsaw, shot blasting and burning techniques to transform large pieces of wood.

I spend my days making dresses which are like stories using fabrics which have had a life for women who enjoy such things. Kimonos, tablecloths and cashmere sweaters are deconstructed and rebuilt to clothe the characters that reside in us all.

Contemporary pieces hand made using traditional skills.

Influenced by a love of ceramics and seasonal botanicals I mix freehand printed line-work with splashes of screen-printed colour. Bold silhouettes acquire their own character when combined with the spontaneous nature of mono-print. I run beginners printing workshops at my home studio.

I am a contemporary glass artist using fusing and slumping to complement traditional methods of glass work, thereby creating unique vibrant and dynamic works. I believe that everything has energy and a rhythm and draw inspiration from nature and my travels. I believe colour is an important part of our life be it natural or manmade. Take Part Star Making, Make a Glass Star

Beth Quarmby is a freelance illustrator, designer and maker who works from her narrowboat, accompanied by two cats and a wolf. Working with a combination of traditional and digital techniques, Beth produces expressive (and sometimes weird) collages and drawings. She has a particular interest in texture and pattern. Take Part Wilder Mann Monster Making

I will be presenting photobooks of abstract and surreal art photography; with mounted prints of selected photographs.

GOLDEN FEATHER LYRIC TRAIL Take Part and Win £150!

The glittering (but forgetful) Golden Peacock has visited all our artists and accidentally shed a dazzling golden feather at each venue. Each feather holds a word of a well-known song (a musical spell this magical bird needs to remember, otherwise it will lose its colour). The Golden Peacock is panicking and needs your help! Help this beautiful bird find as many golden feathers as you can, and make a note of the word/lyric attached to each feather. If you visit at least 20 venues and collect a word at each, you will be entered into a draw to win £150 of vouchers to spend with artists on the trail. (Bonus points will be awarded to anyone who can also figure out which song the words are from!) Submit your entry by tearing this page out of your brochure and: • Handing in at the last venue you visit. • Or scan and email to peacockartstrail@gmail.com Please note - entries must be submitted by Monday 9 October. Winner will be announced and contacted by Friday 13 October. Good luck!
