A police chase early Sunday ended with the arrest of a minor who had been drinking and driving, according to a police report. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a police officer spotted a pickup speeding eastbound on Windsor Drive. The 20-year-old suspect blazed through the intersection at Locust Street and continued eastbound before coming to a stop at the intersection of Windsor and Stuart Road, according to the report. The officer stated in his report that he approached the vehicle as it was stopped, but when the driver noticed him, he peeled out, turning north onto Stuart. The officer turned on his vehicle’s overhead lights, attempting to pull over the pickup, but the suspect accelerated faster and turned east on Manhattan Drive. According to the police report, the officer pursued the suspect for a short distance before losing sight of him in a neighborhood. Another officer located the pickup parked in front of a house at the 900 block of Kings Row, but the resident said she did not know who owned the vehicle parked in front of her house. Officers discovered the registered address of the pickup was in the 800 block of Laguna Drive, one street south of where it had been parked. When the pursuing officer went to the registered address of the pickup, he was met by the 20-year-old suspect who admitted that he owned the pickup and ran from the police because he’d been drinking. He was arrested on charges of evading arrest and minor driving under the influence.

Krum Crash kills Pilot Point man council to Pickup carrying decide on 5 people hit tree outside of Sanger water use Company requests millions of gallons for use in fracking By Christian McPhate Staff Writer dmcphate@dentonrc.com

The Krum City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today to take action on approval of a water use and temporary access agreement with Vantage Energy of Fort Worth. The Colorado-based oil and gas company is requesting access to millions of gallons of city water to use in its hydraulic fracturing operations, according to Gabe Johnson, city engineer. Mayor Terri Wilson is requesting the Krum council authorize her to execute all contract documents with Vantage Energy on behalf of the city. Vantage Energy has secured about 37,000 acres in the Barnett Shale region for oil and gas development, including more than 22,000 acres in its primary development areas of Denton, Wise and Tarrant counties. The company is seeking at least 50 million gallons of water, Johnson said. The request for water comes at a time not only when a recent inspection by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found a 12 percent shortage of meeting residents’ needs but also when the city recently had its water tested for arsenic and other contaminants as part of a University of Texas at Arlington study on groundwater contamination, according to Mark Patterson, the public works director. Krum currently has six city water wells providing 90 to 95 percent of the water to residents, while the other 5 percent to 10 percent is supplemented by the Upper Trinity Regional Water District. Patterson said the water the city plans to sell to Vantage Energy will be the excess amounts residents normally don’t use in winter months.

A 25-year-old man from Pilot Point was killed in a onevehicle crash west of Sanger early Sunday. Fernando Deluna was pronounced dead after a pickup struck a tree in the 5900 block of Crow Wright Road, according to Sgt. Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Texas Highway Patrol. Troopers were called to the

scene at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday. Deluna was a passenger in a Chevrolet C2500 pickup that was traveling east on Crow Wright when the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck a tree and overturned, Haschel said. Officials said in addition to Deluna, four other people were traveling inside the vehicle. Two occupants were transported to Medical Center of Plano via air ambulance, a third was taken via ground ambulance to Denton Region-

al Medical Center, and a fourth was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton by private conveyance, Haschel said. The names of the four other occupants were withheld pending notification of family members. Officials said Deluna was riding in the back seat without a seat belt. Sanger and Krum fire department personnel worked the accident, Haschel said. The crash is under investigation. — Megan Gray-Hatfield
