iPod Proposal Goal: Have Post Bach students better prepared, more organized, and well connected the appropriate academic resources upon entering WSU School of Medicine in 2010. Objective(s): Use handheld technology to: -‐Teach time management skills to include prioritization, follow up, and task management; -‐Demonstrate performance indicators of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) that include: creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, technology operations and concepts, and critical thinking, problem solving and decision-‐making; -‐Direct students to appropriate academic resources for medical students; -‐Test the functionality of previous PDA resources with the iPod The Academic Skills Counselor will teach a time management class to the Post Bach students entering WSU SOM in 2010. The class is designed to incorporate handheld technology to enhance student productivity. Previously, the SOM previously had supplemental academic resources for PDAs. These resources have gone unused when a variety of companies stop making affordable PDAs in 2007. These resources have untapped potential for student success. This pilot program would also explore the functionality as well as the conversion of those PDA supplements with the iPod. Students will be given iPods with a $50 iTunes gift card to load a specific list of educational productivity tools related to medical education. Students will use the iPod in the time management skills. In addition, students will also learn how to use the educational productivity tools. Resources Needed: 15 iPods-‐32G 3rd Generation $4,485 ($299 x 15) 15 iTunes Gift Cards $ 750 ($50 x 15) $5,235
