As you all know Lakeside is saying goodbye to three of its brothers in Christ as they retire or move on to warmer weather. With years and years of service teaching and guiding students through four difficult years, Lakeside will be missing Pastor Caleb Davidson, who is taking a new call to Florida, along with Mr. Jim Bauer, and Mr. Lance Johnson, both of whom are retiring. These three teachers have been at Lakeside for what seems like forever, and for many students these teachers have not only taught them, but have taught their older siblings as well. The staff and students will sorely miss these teachers and all wish them the best on their new adventures, whether it be the smooth sailing of retirement or the sandy beaches of Florida. May they always remember Lakeside, the family they have here, and the lives that they have touched. Best wishes are sent to them and their families and may God bless and be with them as they move on.
This year on May 27, 2018, Lakeside Lutheran High School’s class of two thousand eighteen graduated-- all of us. I could go on to write some professional sounding article about the graduation ceremony and all the cliche phrases that come up around graduation time like “Graduation is not the end; it’s the beginning,” and “Oh
the places you’ll go,” but that is not really the point of this article. I want to be honest. High school was hard, and it is nothing like High School Musical. Not everyone gets along and things do not always go our way, but we got through it. There were definitely fun times and great memories were made. Friends came and went. As much as life felt like a routine, things were constantly changing. Every
day was different. Change is hard, especially for WELS Lutherans, but we managed make the most of it every single day for four years straight. If that is not awesome, I do not know what is. I hope that we can continue doing that as we keep changing when we go on to college. I would like to wish you all good luck and in the words of Elle Woods, “We did it!”

I would like everyone to focus on this one question: What do you get more of after high school? Sure there are plenty of answers to this question, but the one I am thinking of and want to focus on is freedom. No matter if you move out or still live with your parents, you will have more freedom. The focus for this short devotion comes from Hebrews 10:25, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Why should I go to church anymore? I can always read a devotion or the Bible by myself anyway. Think of embers in a dying fire. You take a piece out and leave the rest in the fire. Which one loses all of its heat and eventually dies out? The single ember all by itself will die quicker, while the group of embers will last longer. The same is with your faith and going to church. Your faith is stronger and longer lasting if you are with a group of believers. Going to church is something special and should always be your number one priority in your life.

Lakeside’s STEM club has really stepped up their game this year. With funding from the Grand Event last year and a $1,000 family gift, many more opportunities were available. A huge addition to the club was the Robotics team. Since this is their first year, the team went to a couple tournaments to spectate and get a feel for the ins and outs. Finally, on January 27, the team went to Fond Du Lac to participate in their first tournament. While it was a big learning experience, the team was able to place in the top 15 for robot design. preparation. Kids were able to visit WLC and the girls could go to Milwaukee School of Engineering for Hands on Future. While the club has competitive and learning purposes, a big part is just having fun. A couple of game nights had high attendance. The students got together to play card games, board games, and intense Super Smash Bros battles. Nerf Gun war was a favorite. Throughout the school kids got to shoot one another with foam darts in friendly fighting. STEM club is not about having a good GPA or being a great designer, it is about friends getting together and having fun. Anyone is welcome to join or just hang out during a specific event!

The Lakeside Lutheran Forensics team participated in the 2018 State Forensics meet in Madison on April 20. After qualifying a perfect 25 team members at the district meet, the team had a few weeks off to take a breath and start preparing for state. On Friday, the team continued the tradition of spending a few hours on State Street to calm their nerves and spend some quality time their team members. In the end, the team exceeded expectations by receiving the highest scores of 91 points that Lakeside has ever gotten at state.

There were 16 team members with perfect scores of 25 who got gold medals and 9 with scores of 24-23 received silver medals. It is truly incredible that

God has gifted so many people with the ability to speak in front of others confidently, especially since studies have shown that most people fear public speaking more than anything else.
