Your Sure Advantage

...focus on what time cannot change

A message from Steve Lauber, Admissions Director

What will my child Become?

12 years ago my firstborn, Trey, began his 1st day of school as a kindergartener (pictured above ). My wife and I were left wondering what was going to become of our 3’6 inch bundle of joy.

Twelve years later, he is a 6’3 bundle of joy. He's 18 years old and about ready to fly the coop to go out on his own. Will he become a marine biologist, a teacher, an entrepreneur, a professional fisherman?

Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure — he has a great foundation for whatever route he chooses.

What a blessing it was in grade school and here at Lakeside Lutheran to be surrounded by wonderful Christian teachers and friends. Daily he was being reminded of the one thing in life that is needed.

God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might BECOME the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Regardless of what Trey becomes in his adult years, he knows that he is first and foremost a child of God. Because of Jesus, we have heaven, awaiting all believers. Whatever wonderful that happens before is just added bonuses.

May that be our prayer for all of our children, young or old.

on the cover

Warriors are encouraged to undergo transformation in high school—to pursue vocations and interests that can give them earthly happiness and success; yet even more importantly, our teens are reminded that they ARE BECOME already—they've become children of the King—and it's an inheritance that can never be taken away from them.

is back!

Meet the new coaches

Mrs. Michelle Taylor, a member at St. Paul in Lake Mills, is our new head coach this school year. With her extensive background as a high school dancer in Duluth and a member of the University of Minnesota Spirit Squad, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Warrior Dance Team. Last year she served St Paul's as Dance/ Poms coach and shares her energetic spirit and enthusiasm with her to LLHS. Miss Katie Edwards, a new faculty member, is her assistant! An avid dancer herself, Miss Edwards has performed, choreographed, and taught dance for many years, including recently dancing the lead in a mini-ballet production of Sleeping Beauty

Hear from one of our Warrior Dance senior captains

Team Captain Julianne Dollard (Holy Cross, Madison; center top in photo, left) began studio dance (ballet, jazz and more) in grade school and was on Warrior Dance her freshman & sophomore years. She loves that dance is back! “I missed making friends on the dance team,” she says. This year, “we have all come to know each other, and we get to have so much fun at practices and games.” Her favorite part, though, is performing. “Going out there and giving the crowd all you’ve got with your teammates is really special” Thinking about trying out? She says, “Just do it! The team and coaches are so welcoming. It’s a great opportunity and we’d love to have you!”

issue 29 • llhs.org • page 3 Clinic participants are also welcome to join us for a performance on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for the boys basketball game vs. Kingdom Prep Lutheran. Girls in K-4th grade will perform during the JV game. Girls in 5-8th will perform at the Varsity game.

< Warrior Bob is retired, just like our Principal, Mr. Grasby.

Our new mascot—sponsored by Bank of Lake Mills, Twice is Nice Resale Store, and LL Student Council—is in production, scheduled to arrive in February, which means we had time to ask our Warrior fam for a new name.

We wanted our new Warrior’s name to be fun and schooloriented, and we received more than 50 suggestions from both K-8 and adults. Thanks to all those who joined in the fun!

Several K-8 suggestions made the narrowed list of anonymous choices that students and staff voted on, so even though the winning name and the runner-up both came from adult suggestions, we think there were a bunch of winners to pick from, so all these "finalist list" entries win $10 gift cards, and the $200 tuition winner was selected randomly from among them:

Christian the Warrior (William Dogs, gr.5, St. John, Juneau)

Gideon (Addison Miller & Jackson Gleesing, both gr.8, St. Paul, Lake Mills)

Luther (Aria Welke, gr.2, St. Paul, Lake Mills)

Principal Wilson (Gracie Flack, gr.2, Crown of Life, Fort)

Rocky (Nico Caminata, gr.7, St. Matthew, Janesville)

$200

Samson (Elias Evensen, gr.2, St. Paul, Lake Mills)

Warren Warrior (Kayla Boll, gr.6, Eastside, Madison)

Warrior Billy (Alex Fischer, gr.5, St. John, Jefferson)

Warrior Dave (Olivia Johnson, gr.2, St. Matthew, Oconomowoc)

Warrior Joey (Alyssa Temerbekova, gr.5, St. Paul, Ixonia)

Wyatt 'cause it means brave in battle just like us the Warriors! (Levi Borgwardt, gr.7, TSL, Watertown)

And if you see the "interim" mascot out & about—first spotted in this year's What's New at LLHS video—before Lakeside Larry arrives, he's been given a runner-up name ...

Warrior Jim (suggested in honor of retired Principal Jim Grasby, retired Choir Director Jim Buege, retired teacher/ coach Jim Bauer and in memory of former LL teacher/coach Jim Unke)

Wondering why "Larry" got so many votes? We can't be positive, but word on the street says it had something to do with some fave old-school cartoon characters ...

will be our new mascot's name!

PARTNERS IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

It’s our 60th anniversary with Bethany as a partner in the Lakeside Lutheran Federation since 1962! We are thrilled to celebrate their 1st year on the new CLCA campus.

Crown of Life Christian Academy

Colors: Navy & White

Mascot: Knights

Enrollment PK–8: 237

Alum at LLHS: 25

Dean: Matthew Oppermann

ENCOURAGING A PARTNERSHIP

Mr. Oppermann shares: “We encourage our students to be in all that LLHS offers—from on-campus events such as the Fine Arts Fest to fun sports and activities camps during the summer. We have LLHS info posted and share upcoming events with our families.

"We look forward to visits from Mr. Lauber and the teens who join him. What a win-win! It's wonderful to have high schoolers shine for their Savior as they represent their school, and we know what a great impact a LLHS presence can have on our campus.”

WHY ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT ATTENDING LAKESIDE?

“... to be able to have more opportunities than grade school offers, doing things I like, such as singing in different types of groups and choirs!” —Lucy, 8th grade

“... to play sports with friends I'm getting to know through Jr. Warriors and also because it's a school that keeps teaching us about God.” —Nolan, 7th grade

WHY CLCA PARENTS SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO LLHS:

“... to continue the faith-based learning our son had at CLCA as well as the friendships he got so close to during 5-8th grade. This has changed our son's entire trajectory. He is doing well both in and outside the classroom.” —Kate, LL class of '26 & CLCA mom

“LLHS extends the Christian education the boys were already getting in grade school. This has made a difference in their lives by focusing their attention on what's really important, hoping to limit some of the worldly distractions, allowing them to just be kids and not grow up too fast.” —April, mom of 3 at LLHS and 2 at CLCA

“We love that the high academic structure mixed with Biblical expectations keep him on track. We never knew how much he would thrive in that setting until he was in it. We were worried it would be a struggle, but he has risen so much higher than we ever thought. God's divine intervention was so amazing when He made the decision for us to be a part of CLCA and now Lakeside. He is concerned about his progress and takes great pride in his work and getting good grades.” —Callie, LL class of '26 & CLCA mom

LL alum on CLCA staff: Jennifer (Iles ‘95) Ertman, Sarah (Haberman ‘99) Moore, Whitney (Pfeifer ‘05) Brown, Marcus Mortensen ‘10.
