What’s E3=L2HS? School is where students meet and interact. They spend the majority of their waking hours with teachers and peers. When combining the school day with time spent in co-curriculars and social situations, high school students easily spend 60 hours per week “in school.” It is an understatement to say that school is a big part of each student’s life. Quantity of time is only part of this influence. The other part is quality. Teachers impact students with their own beliefs and values. All past students must admit they are—in part—who their teachers were, whether or not they always agreed with them. Another influence is peers. Time spent with friends is also educational. Whether spent in athletics, the arts, or just hanging out, the “other half of education” often sets a life path for each student. Knowledge is acquired. Skills are refined and practiced. Tastes and opinions are developed. Attitudes and beliefs are confirmed. Parents who send their children to Christian schools make it a high priority because they realize that teachers in these schools share the same Biblical beliefs as they. Furthermore, parents trust these teachers to apply God’s Word in real life situations. Parents know that peers in these schools approach life similarly. They possess the same faith and values from God’s Word as their children. They also grow daily in faith through hearing and applying the Word. Parents know well that the teachers and students in Christian schools are sinners. They are equally sinful, lost, and condemned. On their own, they have no hope. However, Christian schools proclaim forgiveness through the gospel. They teach God’s forgiveness to all who believe his promises and eternal life through his Son. Lakeside’s biennial theme is Educate, Encourage, Equip. This is not just a slogan. These are words of life and promise. Each day, Lakeside students: >> study subjects as all high school students do. They learn from Scripture that God uniquely created them for lives of earthly service and for eternal glory in heaven (Educate) >> are provided with God’s Word to protect and nurture saving faith (Equip) >> receive opportunities to practice their faith at home, at school and in their communities (Encourage)
Lord, in this new school year, give us all a desire to educate, encourage, and equip the next generation in your truth. Mr. Jim Grasby is principal of Lakeside Lutheran. Reach him at 920.648.2321 x2204 or jgrasby@llhs.org
