Fed eration Connection

There is no difference. Inclusion and exclusion are today’s buzzwords. Often, inclusion is deemed good because some who were previously excluded are now included. On the other hand, exclusion is often viewed negatively because some who should have rightfully been included were not. Detractors of Christianity often label it as exclusive. In a sense, they are correct! God’s Word teaches that only believers in Jesus are saved. We need not apologize for this. God says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). It is clear that “whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18). But, Christianity is also inclusive in two unique ways. The Apostle Paul addresses this in his letter to the Romans: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). First, everyone is the same “for all have sinned.” Sandwiching this thought are bookend passages demonstrating God’s inclusiveness in another way. Paul writes, “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference” (Romans 3:22). God justifies all through Christ. Just as all are sinners, “[all] are justified freely by [God’s] grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” (v. 24). It doesn’t rely on any human factor. “There is no difference.” It is God’s gift “to all who believe.” By grace, God justifies all and offers them life and salvation through faith in his Son. Christians should never be ashamed of their exclusive faith. After all, only faith in Jesus saves. Yet, Christianity is also inclusive because “[believers] are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:28).
