“Strategic Planning Study” update Planning is part of life. We plan budgets, vacations, and sometimes we even plan “to plan.” However, our planning efforts will fail if God is not at the center of them. Only by his blessing will our plans succeed as he desires. Solomon points out this truth when he writes, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” [Proverbs 3:5, NIV]. A year ago, Lakeside began a strategic planning study. It started by assessing where we were, looking at our strengths and needs. Then we asked ourselves where we wished to go, and what was needed to serve our students, their families, and our entire federation. Finally, we determined how to reach those goals. Faculty, staff, board members, students, parents, and other stakeholders were interviewed to solicit opinions and gather data. Much work was done inside the school, although federation members dialogued with Board of Regents members at various congregations. Furthermore, online surveys offered quick and convenient opportunities for others to also express themselves. Ultimately, the information needed for this study was gathered. So, where are we now, a year after the study began? There have been meetings to process the vast amount of information gathered and consider the many viewpoints. Board, faculty and staff have had extensive dialogues as plans were proposed and revised. In short, considerable time and effort were expended to develop a new school mission statement, formulate a three-pronged ten-year target, and dovetail their plans into a framework to support the overall vision of where Lakeside is headed. The final stages of the “quiet phase” are near completion. Soon, others will be invited to read through and discuss this work. Lakeside wants its entire federation – school families (past, current, and future) and others – to know, understand, and fully support what is proposed. Planning is part of life. The Bible provides numerous examples of godly planning that our school leaders See Principal’s Pen, last page
