Sports legacies recognized... One of this summer’s Booster projects was the installation of championship plaques on the east gym wall (above). On seeing it, a member of the boys cross country team that won the 2011 sectional championship, Grey Davis (‘12), immediately wrote a note to us: “It was truly an honor to compete in the LLHS athletic system...look[ing] up at that wall [can also] give younger kids dreams about putting their teams up there. So thank you to whomever made this possible—it made my summer.” That means he—and we—thank YOU!

FED eration CONnection

How well do you know the author? A young college woman was assigned a book to read. She found it dull and boring. Reading each page was difficult and time-consuming. Yet, because it was required, she forced herself through its pages and finally finished. Years later, working in her field of study, the woman met a young professor and quickly fell in love. The two were engaged. One evening, while visiting her home, the professor noticed PRINCIPAL’S PEN the “dull and boring” book gathering dust on her bookshelf. He shared with his fiancée that he had written it, using a pseudonym. Later that night, the young woman picked up the book and read it again. To her surprise, the book was now the most interesting one she ever read. What was the difference? The difference was that now she knew the author. The Word of God may seem like the book in this story. At times, it may seem difficult or tedious to read. The accounts of human folly and sinfulness seemingly have no bearing on modern life. Verses, chapters, and even entire books go on and on with no apparent connection to believers. This is where it pays to know the author. God’s Holy Spirit came to ordinary people, giving them the very words and ideas to write. He breathed into them exactly what he wanted them to share: messages of law identifying and condemning sinfulness, and assurances of the gospel pledging God’s full forgiveness, his loving restoration, and the sure hope of salvation through faith in Christ. When viewed this way, God’s Word is like no other book due to its origin and content. How well do you know the author? Every believer should ponder this question when reading the Bible. The Word of God clearly pictures the One who created us, loves us, and preserves us in saving faith. Reading his divine Word helps us know the Author.
