Aleasi: A night-demon in the hierarchy of the

north. According to the Ars Theurgia, Aleasi serves the demon-king Raysiel and holds the rank of chief duke. He appears only during the hours of the night and is reputed to have a very obstinate and evil nature. Forty lesser spirits serve him, carrying out his commands. See also ARS THEURGIA, RAYSIEL. Aledep: In the Driscoll edition of the Sworn Book

of Honourius, Aledep is one of three ministers said to serve directly beneath the demon-king Abas. Connected with the dark regions below the earth, Aledep and his compatriots know the location of all manner of precious metals and can be compelled to bring gold and silver in great quantities if appeased with the proper offerings. Aledep also seems to have some connection to earthquakes, for he is said to be capable of great destruction, causing buildings and other structures to be pulled down. He can confer positions of earthly power as well, helping those he favors to gain influence and dignities in the world. See also ABAS, SWORN BOOK. Alepta: According to the Mathers translation of

the Grimoire of Armadel, Alepta is a demon who gives great riches. He can further exalt a mortal and make that person formidable to others. Finally, this demon has the ability to rescue those who call upon him from the hands of their enemies—although no indication is given of what the demon may demand in return for this service. See also MATHERS. Alferiel: According to the Ars Theurgia, Alferiel is a

demon in the hierarchy of Demoriel, the Emperor of the North. Alferiel is a mighty duke with eightyfour lesser spirits beneath him. His immediate superior is the demon Armadiel, who rules in the

northeast. Alferiel is bound by both time and direction, and he will only manifest during very specific hours and minutes. If the day is divided into fifteen equal portions, the sixth of these is Alferiel’s. (The Henson translation of the Ars Theurgia gives this number as fifteen. It was almost certainly intended to be twelve, but was copied incorrectly somewhere along the way.) See also ARMADIEL, ARS THEURGIA, DEMORIEL. Alflas: One of several demons named in the court

of king Maymon in the Joseph H. Peterson translation of the Liber Juratus, also known as the Sworn Book of Honorius. Maymon, and thus his servants, is connected with both the planet Saturn and the direction north—although Alflas is one of the demons in this list who is also specifically said to be subordinate to the southwest wind. Maymon and his court are described as tall, pale, and gracile. They can make it snow and they also have power to influence the emotions of anger, hatred, and sadness. Compare this demon’s name with Asflas, said to serve Albunalich, demon-king of the earth, in the Driscoll translation of the Sworn Book. See also ALBUNALICH, ASFLAS, MAYMON, SWORN BOOK. Aliel: A demon named in the Ars Theurgia. Aliel

serves in the court of the demon-prince Dorochiel where he commands forty lesser spirits of his own. He is said to have achieved the rank of chief duke, and he serves only in the first half of the night, between dusk and midnight. Through Dorochiel, he is associated with the west. His name appears again in the hierarchy of the demon Masiel. Here, Aliel is said again to serve during the hours of the night. He holds the rank of duke and has thirty spirits beneath him. He is also said to be a duke in service to the infernal king Maseriel. In this hierarchy, Aliel is connected with the direction of the
