Ahura Mazda (Ohrmazd or Ormazd): Ahura Mazda is the supreme being in Zoroastrianism. He looks after Heaven and earth, and is constantly fighting for the forces of good. His main foe is Angra Mainyu, the devil in Zoroastrianism. Ahura Mazda is helped in his work by six Amesha Spentas, or Beneficent Immortals, who serve as his Archangels. Ahurani: Ahurani are female yazata angels in Zoroastrianism. Their task is to look after water. See yazata, Zoroastrianism. Air, Angel of: See Chassan. Akathrielah Yelod Sabaoth (Ak-ath-reel-yah Yay-lod Sab-ay-ot): Akathrielah Yelod Sabaoth is a powerful angel in Jewish legend. He ranks above all the other angels and stands at the entrance to Heaven. Akatriel: Akatriel is the angel-prince who proclaims divine mysteries. He is one of the supreme regents of the Seventh Heaven and is a member of the Sarim. Akatriel can be consulted whenever doubt or mystery surrounds a problem. See Sarim. Aker: According to the Book of Esdras, Aker is one of the nine angels who will govern the world after the Day of Judgment. The others are: Arphugitonos, Beburos, Gabriel, Gabuthelon, Michael, Raphael, Uriel, and Zebuleon. See individual angels.
