Spring Chapter Updates! ALPHA CHAPTER This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to complete one of my Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. Through my preceptor, Dr. Renier Coetzee, and University of Western Cape, my fellow rotation students and I collaborated with non-governmental organization, Touching Nations, to make a positive impact in the local community. This project involved educating community healthcare workers (CHWs) – individuals involved in the home-based care program within Touching Nations – on common disease states. Touching Nation's homebased care program includes sending CHWs out into the Delft community to offer various levels of care, such as: home-based disability assistance and wound care, tuberculosis and HIV management, and counseling and resources to at-risk children. The motivation for this outreach initiative was to highlight the potential role of pharmacy students in the field of social accountability.
