GARDEN CITY COMMERCIAL HUB

I have been working as a Junior Architect at Fabeline Horticulture, a landscape and architecture design consultancy. Despite being a small scale practice, I have gained invaluable knowledge and experience in a short period of time.

In my role, I have had the opportunity to work on numerous turn-key projects, including sports and leisure, farmhouses, commercial plazas, and retail design. These projects often require interdisciplinary skills, encompassing architecture, landscape design, and interior design.

The Garden City Commercial Hub is one of the projects I have invested greatly on, from concept design of the commercial hub, to developing elevations, internal layouts and retail designing.

01 | PROFESSIONAL WORK

While working on diverse range of projects, I gained experience in space planning, designing interior and landscape layouts and selecting internal and external materials and finishes. Moreover, working on these design projects independently has helped me to further develop my creative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in addition to my technical skills: Revit, Lumion and AutoCAD. This experience has also given me a deeper understanding of the importance of effective communication and collaboration in the design process.

Other main projects:

• Royal Resort & Country Club

• Garden City Housing Society Entrance

• Bundu Khan Farmhouse

• Residential Landscape Design

• English Casual Garden etc.

WEST DENTON LEISURE CENTRE

During my professional experience at FaulknerBrowns Architects in the UK, as a Part-l Architectural Assistant, I had the opportunity to work on RIBA stages 0-4, which involved tasks such as developing site analysis diagrams, contributing to design thinking, 3D modeling, preparing architectural drawings, creating renders, and preparing technical design drawing packages.

03 | PROFESSIONAL WORK

However, this project -West Denton Leisure Centreis the one through which I have learned immensely as I have been working, contributing and learning since we first got the Invitation to Tender. I was able to polish my skills in Revit, Enscape, Photoshop, and Illustrator, which helped me confidently produce 2D and 3D architectural drawings (such as floor plans, sections, elevations, and axonometric views), as well as visuals and renders. During the advanced stages of the project, I was also responsible for communicating the vision and atmosphere of each space, including the foyer, gym, sports hall, pool hall, etc.

< Elevation Bay Render ^ 1:200 Rendered Elevations for Design Access Statement.

Getting the opportunity to previously work on the new Kingston Leisure Centre helped me familiarise myself with RIBA Stages 3 and 4 drawing packs such as Floor Finishes, Wall Finishes, Pool Tank Details and FF&E drawings etc. which led me to perform efficiently within a tight project programme. Moreover, I was also able to experience many design team meetings and workshops with the clients, consultants and planning officer.

THE BAMBOO GARDEN

The Bamboo Garden Pavilion (Heriot Watt University Dubai MA Project) serves as a sustainable design solution within the realm of Expo City, Dubai. Bamboo, integrated throughout the pavilion in diverse ways, becomes a powerful symbol of resilience and adaptability in the face of climate challenges. The Bamboo Garden Pavilion stands as a beacon of hope, signifying the convergence of nature, innovation, and art.

THE BAMBOO GARDEN

My line of inquiry explores bamboo’s multifaceted integration within the design of the Bamboo Garden Pavilion for COP28 in Dubai Expo City. I am delving into the potential of bamboo not only as a structural material but also in secondary and tertiary applications, aiming to showcase its diverse nature and adaptability.

Moreover, the immersion of digital displays specifically providing platform to showcase the work of local artists, contributing to a dynamic and interactive experience for pavilion visitors.

My graduate project (Newcastle University, UK), Second Life- Glass Recycling and Research Centre, orientates one to mend the lost connection with the heritage and the people of Ouseburn. It identifies my project, Glass Recycling and Research Centre, as a connector. The design project endeavours to reminisce the glassworks industry, the first industry to settle in Ouseburn, and strengthen the connection with its history by proposing a highly contextual design through a meticulous analysis of context, history, and materiality. This practice precisely mirrors the importance of building meaningful architecture that values people, place, and their past through material exploration.

The project focuses on addressing wider environmental and climate crises through sustainability strategies: Heat recovery system, Rainwater Harvesting, Recycling and Repurposing building materials.

13 | GRADUATION PROJECT

Im particularly interested in making physical 1:20 and 1:50 scale models using various techniques and materials, including paper, cardboard, clay, wood, laser printing and 3D printing etc. This helps me test and refine my concept in a tactile way while communicating the design intent and spatial qualities of a design to the client.

14 | MODEL MAKING

My interest in graphic designing grew when I first learned to use Adobe Illustrator to design logo and posts for my e-commerce start-up to save paying a professional graphic designer which would have been costly. The venture unexpectedly landed me with an opportunity to design a book cover for an acclaimed Urdu Writer and Poetess, Rahat Afshan.

My interest in other forms of art is rooted in my natural talent and interest in painting, drawing, and sketching since childhood. Learning new techniques have proved valuable in my work and will be useful in creating visual representations of interior design concepts and ideas.

15 | GRAPHIC DESIGNING/ ARTS

My interests and hobbies also expand to photography and filmmaking. The above QR code will view a short film produced in Stage 2 for a group project. Skills learned from dramatics society proved to be a valuable experience in directing and choreographing the scenes for the short film. Having learned Adobe Premiere Pro in A-levels IT also benefited the team immensely and saved other members from learning it last minute for the project.

My daily routine and rhythms include identifying camera-worthy angles and capturing the best aspects of a space which makes my hour long commute from home to city centre more interesting and valuable. This exercise helps me understand better how people interact with spaces as well.
