2024 is the 18th year that Milton Keynes celebrates Heritage Open Days. 2006 had 15 events held across MK – this year 234 events showcase our unique heritage.
The national theme this year is Routes, Networks, Connections and this icon highlights our 62 events.
6th - 15th September sees TEN DAYS of unmissable events, including many activities for children and families. There are exhibitions, workshops, walks and tours, open days, crafts and performances. Suitable for ALL and all events will be FREE.

Junior Filmmakers
Through the power of storytelling and filmmaking, this project spotlights the diverse tapestry of Indian culture and its significant impact across Milton Keynes The project saw the collaboration of local young filmmakers working with tutors at Film Academy Milton Keynes to produce 17 short films highlighting the multifaceted contributions of the Indian community, from youth and sports, entrepreneurship and politics to the healthcare sector. These films are now part of MK Heritage Open Days, ensuring that even more people have access to these stories

During this tour we will talk about the CWGC and look at the stories of the ten service personnel from the First and Second World Wars buried in the cemetery One of these is 2nd Lieutenant Frank Luker who saw service in the Gloucester Regiment in France and then the Mediterranean. He was then commissioned, joining the newly formed Royal Air Force in 1918. Homeworld ’81 was the first of three international housing exhibitions held in Milton Keynes. The others were EnergyWorld in 1986 and FutureWorld in 1994 It was organised by Milton Keynes Development Corporation – the Government agency responsible for developing the New City between 1967-92 This walk takes you around the exhibition site to see what we can now see of the thirty-six homes which were part of the original exhibition. Pilgrim Trail
This trail runs along the western edge of Milton Keynes, taking in medieval sites along an imagined pilgrimage route through the city It takes us from Tattenhoe Church (which has many stones from the original Snelshall Priory site) to the chapel of St Mary at Bradwell Abbey. As well as walking, most of the route can be cycled and is accessible, apart from some rough ground on the bridleway and a stepped railway bridge which can be avoided The trail is never far from Milton Keynes grid roads and redways so can easily be broken up into shorter sections or loops if 8 miles is too far for one day. www.mktrails.org/mk-trails-app.html

Our routes guide you around Milton Keynes, and its heritage sites, public art, cultural venues, parks, open spaces, and points of interest. There are 5 routes, each about 10 miles long with a 5 mile short cut. Based around a Central Grand Tour (blue route) you can easily branch off onto other routes to explore more!
