POLLED BULL SALE & Special Female Offering

Hubert Charolais Ranch Dear Charolais Friends, Welcome to our 38th Annual Polled Bull Sale. This year marks our 58th year of breeding Charolais cattle. In any cattle market – pounds, performance and feed efficiency are important traits and no breed does it better than Charolais. We are pleased to offer you this set of bulls. Please utilize the information provided for you. All individual performance and carcass EPD’s are printed in this catalog. Current weight and scrotal circumference will be available sale day. The bulls have been fed for soundness and longevity. With the exception of the natural born fall bulls none of these bulls have been exposed to creep feed. The Average Daily Gain test is from the day they were weaned until their yearling weight was taken. This is a 150 day plus time span and the goal is to gain 3.0 pounds per day. Many programs use short feeding periods and sport 5.0 plus daily gains. You will not find that type of test on our ranch. The bulls will be semen tested and have tested negative for BVD. If you have questions concerning our vaccination program please consult our veterinarian Dr. Paul Ritter. The female offering is small but mighty. The spring heifer calf pairs are all first calf heifers and are a cross section of our herd. The fall pairs will be bred back to calve in the fall and we will sell their heifer calf offspring separately in the ring. These females are good and deserve your scrutiny. Ron Powers, Gove County cattleman said this to me last spring when I delivered his daughters bull. “I have been around a long time and fed a lot of cattle. I feed straight black, straight red and Charolais cross. The Charolais cross gain more and eat less. I see first-hand what Charolais will do.” This sums up our business and makes me proud of my association with the Charolais breed. Please join us on April 4, 2017 as we offer you 70 bulls and 10 female lots. Sincerely, David & Shelby Hubert

It is our privilege to recognize Elmer and Rita Maddux and their children on a remarkable life in the cattle and farming business. Dad and Elmer became acquainted with one another in the early 60’s. Their mutual interest of wheat farming, politics and Charolais cattle formed a strong friendship. The Maddux ranch has been using HCR genetics for 30+ years and counting. Elmer started in the cattle business at age 12 when his father gave him an 11 acre wheat field. He went to the bank and borrowed money to purchase three heifer calves to grow on this wheat field and has had mother cows ever since. With the exception of six months, where he worked in a flour mill in Pueblo, Colorado, and serving two years in the military, Elmer has spent his entire life in Woodward County, Oklahoma. Western Oklahoma was experiencing a drought in the mid 50’s and with Elmer struggling to feed his cattle, told his father-in-law, Jess Hepner, there was grass he could rent. When Jess found out what he could buy the grass for he encouraged Elmer to purchase instead of rent. Elmer’s response to Jess was that he couldn’t afford to buy a corner post! Elmer purchased his first 560 acres with an FHA loan. From this first purchase the Maddux Ranch is now in excess of 21,000 acres. Elmer and Rita were blessed with three children, Ronnie, Nancy and Dallett. All three were active on the farm and quite successful at rodeo. Elmer has received numerous honors including 1960 Jaycee’s Farm Family of the Year and the 1970 State of Oklahoma Farm Family of the Year. He spent many years in public service as a County Commissioner and sixteen years in the Oklahoma State House of Representatives where he faithfully served the interest of agriculture. He also served on the Freedom School Board, Treasurer of Northwest County Officers and Deputies Association, Woodward County Jail Board, Rural Water District, Soil and Water Conservation Board and Oklahoma Organ Donor Advisory Council. He has a special interest in the Organ Donor Council as he has lived the last twelve years with a transplanted heart. Elmer is the first to credit the people who helped him get started and the people who work daily on the ranch. He is especially grateful for his wife and family. In his own words and I’ve heard him say it many times: “Life’s been real good to me.” David Hubert
