TAKE YOU R S E ATS FO R A N EXCI T I N G NEW SEASON I N 2 01 4 As we embark on our second year we have an entertaining, thought provoking season of quality theatre and live entertainment. In January we are pleased to welcome Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s ‘Tell me on a Sunday’ and Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s ‘Putting it Together’ - Stephen Sondheim’s musical review with an award-winning cast. From February to June we have a whole host of fantastic productions lined up, namely the UK Premiere of ‘URINETOWN THE MUSICAL’ – a Tony Award-winning musical directed by Olivier Awardwinning Jamie Lloyd, and Out of Joint’s ‘This May Hurt A Bit’ – Stella Feehily’s satirical and surreal take on the NHS. The St. James Studio has quickly established itself as a venue in its own right and will present an impressive line up of cabaret, music, comedy and small scale theatre throughout 2014. In January we welcome tense noir thriller ‘Bloodshot’ for three weeks followed by artists including Frank Skinner, Joanna Eden, Liane Carroll, Hadley Frase, Julian Clary, Marcel Lucont and Ian Shaw. If you like what we are doing, we would be thrilled if you would consider becoming a friend or member of the St. James, or support us corporately – your generosity will allow us to push the artistic boundaries whilst delivering a programme to delight, engage and inspire you, our audience. We look forward to welcoming new and old friends in 2014 and sincerely hope that you will enjoy all we have to offer, including the superb Carrara restaurant or our relaxed Bar and Brasserie. THIS MAY HURT A BIT By Stella Feehily Directed by Max Stafford-Clark Designed by Tim Shortall. Lighting by Jason Taylor Sound by Andy Smith

14 MAY - 21 JUNE “It would be a great reform in politics if wisdom could be made to spread as easily and rapidly as folly” Winston Churchill A month after stating “we will stop the top-down reorganisation of the NHS that has got in the way of patient care”, the government launched the biggest top-down reorganisation the service had seen in its 65-year history. With characteristic wit, tenderness, and surrealism, Stella Feehily’s new play explores one family’s journey through the digestive system of the NHS, and asks: what is the prognosis for this much-loved, and fiercely debated, institution? Out of Joint returns to the St. James Theatre following their raved-about production of Our Country’s Good. Stella Feehily’s plays for Out of Joint have been produced at the Royal Court and Soho Theatre. They include Bang Bang Bang, Dreams of Violence, O go my Man and Duck. Cast includes Frances Ashman, Stephanie Cole, Natalie Klamar, Brian Protheroe, Jane Wymark and Tristram Wymark.

ONE STAGE. ONE EXCITING SEASON OF THEATRE

1 SEPT - 14 DEC 2014 This autumn St. James Theatre will play host to a season of shows, produced by the winners of the theatre charity Stage One’s nationwide search for three outstanding entrepreneurs in the world of West End Theatre. The winning producers and their productions will be selected by a panel of theatre professionals in early 2014, and announced in June. Stage One is dedicated to developing the next generation of theatre-makers and this unique scheme is the first of its kind to reach the London stage. “Our plan is to provide an opportunity which further prepares producers for the demands and risks that await them in the West End. We’re always impressed by the standard of the individuals who become involved with the various Stage One programmes but, with One Stage, we feel we are creating an authentic and challenging scheme that will test these individuals in all of the multiple skills that a commercial theatre producer has to master.” Joseph Smith, Chief Executive of Stage One
