Recruitment/Intake Guidelines

New Member of the Year | This award recognizes an outstanding FSL member who has been initiated within the last year, and who is involved in not only his or her own Chapter/Colony, but also the FSL and campus community at large.

Fraternity and Sorority Life Leader of the Year | This award recognizes individuals who positively represent their Chapter/Colony and the Greek community. Both a sorority and fraternity member can be chosen for this award.

SECTION 4: NEW MEMBER RECRUITMENT AND EDUCATION

Recruitment/Intake Guidelines

Recognized organizations are permitted to recruit new members and conduct new member education and intake processes. However, these processes can only be conducted during the fall and spring semesters. No bids or invitations of membership can be distributed during the winter or summer

breaks, or during spring break.

Interfraternity Council (IFC):

At the beginning of each semester, the IFC holds an Open House where prospective members can learn more about and meet the men of each IFC organization. The Open House is not mandatory; however, it is strongly encouraged for any student interested in joining one of the IFC organizations that semester. Students can register in advance online (https://liu-post.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sororityrecruitment-registration-form) or at the event. If a conflict arises, students should contact the IFC 24 hours prior to the start of the event atPost-IFC@my.liu.edu. Bids will be distributed during Fraternity Signing Day through LIU Promise. Students may receive a bid from more than one organization; however, they can only accept one bid. Any student who rejects a bid or does not receive a bid can receive a bid through Continuous Open Bidding periods of the same semester, or recruitment week of the next semester.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

Each NPHC organization follows their own guidelines for recruitment/intake. NPHC organizations usually hold information sessions during each semester where they will explain their intake/recruitment process. Information sessions are advertised through flyers, social media and word of mouth. If a student is interested in joining an NPHC organization, fill out the interest form. Panhellenic Association (PHA):

In the fall semester, the (PHA) holds a formal recruitment process that takes place on campus. Students interested in joining one of the PHA organizations must register either in advance (https://liupost.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-recruitment-registration-form ) or at the first event. Students must attend all recruitment events in order to be eligible to receive a bid. If a conflict arises, a conflict form must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start of recruitment.
