Serious Illness, Injuries or Accidents
from On-Call Manual
Unauthorized Visitors
• At any time when an unauthorized visitor is present in a residence hall or on campus, Public Safety and the On-Call Administrator should be notified. • If the unauthorized visitor is a minor (under 18 years of age) in a residence hall, they will be required to leave provided a parent or guardian can take responsibility for them. • If the unauthorized visitor is trespassed from campus or found in a residence hall while suspended from that hall, Public Safety should be contacted by the staff member who identified the unauthorized visitor. The visitor will be escorted off-campus by Public Safety staff and may be trespassed from campus by the Department of Public Safety. If the visitor has repeatedly returned to campus, in violation of a trespass or suspension order, the Police will be contacted. • All student-specific and situational information must be kept confidential whenever possible.
Loss of Service/ Utilities Interruption
• The Facilities Services should be notified immediately when there is loss of electricity, heat, and/or water in a residence hall. Public Safety will be the main contact for such emergences outside of standard business hours. • If Public Safety becomes aware of a utility interruption from a source other than LIU Promise staff, they should notify the On-Call Administrator. • The On-Call Administrator will speak with the Facilities staff who responds to the building in order to estimate a time for repair. • The On-Call Supervisor will be contacted and work with the On-Call Administrator to determine a plan for the affected residents. If residents require relocation, the On-Call Administrator will work with the On-Call Supervisor to coordinate room changes. • If power is out in the building and the fire system is not operational as a result, students may only remain in the building if a fire watch is established, utilizing Public Safety and on-call staff. • If a flood occurs in a residence hall, residents will be asked to leave the affected area until the excess water can be eliminated. The On-Call Administrator and any additional on-call staff necessary will take a detailed summary and photographs of any items damaged (by resident, by room). The damage summary must be included with the corresponding Public Safety incident report. • Information regarding efforts to repair the problem should be shared with affected residents whenever possible. Parents may also be notified according to the resident’s emergency contact information if necessary. • All student-specific and situational information must be kept confidential whenever possible.

Administrator and Supervisor will be notified.
