Bomb Threat

• When student is being transported Counseling Services will notify the emergency room and/or psychiatric floor staff and appraise them regarding student’s situation. They will also be notified that the student is not permitted back to campus until evaluated by Counseling Services staff. • The Counseling Services will contact the student’s family to apprise them of the situation. • The Counseling Services will follow up with the student and notify LIU Promise when the student may return to their room assignment when applicable. • Immediate and on-going support shall be provided to roommate, friends, floor mates or others affected if necessary by LIU Promise and/ Counseling Services staff. • All student-specific and situational information must be kept confidential whenever possible.

Fire Emergency

• Fires will be classified as small or large, internal or external. If a fire is witnessed outdoors, Public Safety should be notified immediately. No matter what type of fire condition appears, the person who witness or smells smoke will immediately sound the fire alarm by activating the pull box and will leave building by the nearest exit. It should be noted that at times of fire emergency or any type of emergency students and staff are to use all exits, including all side doors. • Students and staff should leave the building in an orderly manner. If a door leading to the exit is closed, feel the door for heat before opening. Walk, do not run, and use stairs, not the elevator. If a smoke condition is present and is hampering evacuation, crawl to the exit if need be. If you are the last one leaving a room, close the door behind you if possible to prevent the fire from spreading. • Staff should gather students from all exit locations and centralize them. Have attendance taken of all who are present- this information should be given to the public safety officer on scene. If at any time, someone believes that a person is still in the building, fire personnel, Public Safety Officer, or Old Brookville Police Officer should be notified. At no time is any one to re-enter the building. All students and staff should meet at their predesignated location. • Student Affairs leadership should be notified immediately following notification to Public Safety. • Any live-in staff should assist LIU Promise staff and Resident Assistants evacuate and relocate students as necessary. • In the event of inclement weather or prolonged evacuation from the building, students should be accommodated in nearby buildings. If the fire is in a residence hall, the students should be escorted by staff to a neighboring residence hall lobby or other campus location. • The Director of Public Safety or his/her designee will determine when a building may be reoccupied. • All student-specific and situational information must be kept confidential whenever possible.

Report of Missing Resident Student

• If a resident student is reported missing, LIU Promise will immediately follow-up with the student’s roommate and/or neighbors to see when the student was last seen. • In the event that a student is determined missing, Student Affairs Leadership or Director of Public Safety can notify the confidential contact provided on the student’s Missing Person Form no more than 24 hours after the student is determined to be missing. • If the confidential contact does not confirm recent communication with the student or is unable to be reached, the Director of Public Safety will notify local law enforcement once the student is determined to be missing for 24 hours.
