Reflect briefly on each incident in which you were involved and how you would change your behaviors if you had the opportunity to go back and do it all again. Loyalty Reflection Paper
You have been found responsible for a policy violation despite the fact that your testimony suggested that another person was actually the responsible party. When asked to provide written testimony or to gather testimony supporting that claim, you indicated that you would rather take responsibility for the violation yourself than become part of the process through which another might be held accountable. As has been explained to you, provisions to the Student Code of Conduct will continue to hold you accountable for violations happening within your residence hall room.
Consider the process by which you decided to accept responsibility for the violation rather than becoming a part of the process through which another party might accept part or full responsibility. You are required to compose a personal statement that explores the following questions: 1. Briefly describe the incident that led to this hearing decision.
2. Why have you opted to not play a more deliberate roll in identifying others who may have been involved with the violation? 3. What is the threshold you are willing to endure with regard to accepting responsibility for the sake of avoiding holding others truly accountable (i.e. – Where do you draw the line for "taking the hit"?)
Reflect on how you are liable for your guests’ actions and may face additional sanctions because of this? 4. How do you define "loyalty"? How do you perceive that definition as it relates to others whom you feel should have been held responsible, but have not, for this incident?
The letter must be 2-3 full pages, double-spaced, with one-inch margins and written in 12-point Arial font, with your first name, last name and report number in the heading (i.e. – John/Jane Smith RL##-###). The report number will be removed prior to the letter being forwarded to the intended recipient. Be advised that this letter may not be used to justify the actions that led to this sanction or to criticize the actions of others. If this letter does not meet the appropriate length, aesthetics, or content, you will be required to repeat the letter. If the letter is not submitted or you are required to re-do the letter, you will be issued a Disciplinary Block (D-Block) will be placed on your account until an acceptable letter is submitted. A D-Block will limit your ability to register for classes, return to residence halls, etc. Your letter is due by [Time, Day, Date]. Please submit your letter to [HEARING OFFICER Email].
