Inter-Campus Change
A student must meet the following requirements to be eligible for a leave of absence: • Be a degree seeking undergraduate or graduate student • Be registered for the semester immediately prior to the beginning of the Leave of Absence • Be in good academic standing, on probation, or on continuing probation with his/her college • Have no holds (i.e. disciplinary or financial) which would restrict registration • Submit a formal written and signed Leave of Absence application form, which specifies the reason for the student's leave. This form is found on LIUShare and submitted to Enrollment Services.
Re-Admittance
Students who stopped attending LIU for one or more regular semesters (fall or spring), and wish to return, must file an application for readmission. If a student has been out of attendance for more than five years, official transcripts from previous colleges may be required.
Academic Forgiveness
Students who have not enrolled for at least five years have the option to be readmitted with the following provisions: • The student must follow the current LIU Undergraduate or Graduate Bulletin at the time they are readmitted. • All courses and grades received prior to the date of readmission will remain on the student's permanent record, but will not be computed into the student's academic average. • Only courses completed prior to readmission in which a "C" or better was earned will count toward the student's graduation requirements. However, these grades will not be computed into the student's academic average. • Courses completed prior to readmission in which a “c-“ or lower was earned will not count toward graduation requirements nor will they be included in the computation of the student’s academic average. • This option, once chosen, cannot be rescinded.
Inter-Campus Change
Students who wish to transfer from one LIU campus to another LIU campus must fill out an Inter-campus Change form and submit it to the Office of Admissions on the campus they are transferring to.
Once the form has been approved by the Office of Admissions, the student’s career will be switched to the new campus and the student will be referred to LIU Promise and/ or Enrollment Services to discuss the student’s new academic plan as well as financial aid package.
