Elevating Students At-Risk

IDENTIFYING STUDENTS AT-RISK

The term “at-risk” refers to a student who is considered to have a higher likelihood of not persisting at the University for various reasons including, poor academic success, financial concerns, a negative campus experience, or other personal factors.

LIU Promise Success Coaches and Enrollment Service Coaches are at the front lines of guiding and assisting students who are considered, or have indicated, that they may be at risk to leave the University.

The following are some examples of factors that may indicate a student is at-risk to not continue their academic pursuits or discontinue at LIU:

• Poor academic progress, failing or incomplete grades • Receipt of one or more early alerts • No student involvement and not socially connecting to campus • Change in behavior or communication to coach • Large unpaid balance or frequent late payments • Missing documents or requirements (ie: immunizations, transcripts, etc.) • Failure to register for next semester classes in prescribed timeline • Lack of communication to coach after several attempts • Personal, family, or other matter affecting student’s mindset or progress
