DESIGNED FOR YOU The Long Island University Honors College was inaugurated in 1963 as one of the nation's first Honors programs. Students in the Honors College take courses designed to broaden their education and engage in interdisciplinary learning and research. Honors College students are granted exceptional privileges, including priority registration, small classes, interdisciplinary courses not offered through regular departments, additional internship, leadership, study abroad and service-learning opportunities, multiple fellowships and external scholarships, dedicated study space, and an Honors designation on their diploma at graduation.

CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE For high achieving students, the LIU Honors College experience provides access to challenging, stimulating curriculum. he Honors curriculum includes core courses, advanced T electives, and specialized independent studies. L IU Honors College students complete 24+ Honors credits. The Honors curriculum rotates to ensure that students are consistently offered a fresh slate of courses that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and learning.

Dr. Gregory W. Barton serves as the Dean of the Honors College at Long Island University. Dr. Barton received his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, specializing in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education. His research focuses on improving college readiness through arts, athletics, and family engagement. As a former college athlete and practicing artist, Dr. Barton is passionate about students finding success by building college readiness skills in extracurricular activities. Before his work at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Barton received his master's in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art and Design and his bachelor's degree in sculpture and art history from Washington and Lee University.
