About Taiwan Local Cultural Industries Internationalization Counseling Project The Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) launched the OTOP (One Town One Product), the local cultural industry counseling program in 1989.

The program starts out with each township or city, and develops local cultural products with history, culture, or uniqueness. The promotional content ranges from processed foods, living crafts, creative living products, creative gourmet, rural leisure, to festival events.

The specialty and rural leisure industry of each township are upgraded from industry technology and service to industry co-marketing alliances through the counseling of local cultural industry, so that the characteristics of each township or city will disseminate throughout the entire country and have a strong presence on the international stage.

Since 2008, Taiwan Local Cultural Industries Internationalization Counseling Project has selected industries with potential international competitiveness (e.g., tea, ceramics, glass, pastry and bamboo) to provide guidance and counseling, and has established the OTOP International Marketing Alliance which is aimed at sharing touches of Taiwan's local cultural characteristics with foreign friends by means of network collaboration, enhancing product features, establishing distribution channels and themed industries marketing.

關於臺灣地方特色產業國際化輔導計畫

經濟部中小企業處自 1989 年起推動 OTOP(One Town One Product，一鄉鎮一特產 ) 地方特 色產業輔導計畫，協助具有歷史性、文化性、獨特性等特質的地方特色產業發展，推廣範圍涵 概加工食品、文化工藝、創意生活、在地美食、休憩服務、節慶民俗等六大類，運用地方的文 化特色，提升在地產業附加價值。 透過地方特色產業輔導，使每個鄉鎮的特產及休憩服務產業，得以從產業技術及服務升級到產 業策略聯盟共同行銷，將各鄉鎮特色綻放全臺，並躍上國際舞台。臺灣地方特色產業國際化輔 導計畫自 2008 年遴選輔導具有國際競爭力潛力的產業 ( 例：茶、陶瓷、玻璃、糕餅、竹 )， 成立地方特色產業國際行銷聯盟，藉由網絡合作、特色強化、通路布建、主題行銷等方式推動， 將臺灣的在地特色及感動分享予國際友人。 5

Founded in 1905, Joy Well Bakery is famous for its self-developed “chess cake”, which simulates the shape of Chinese chess pieces and has been chosen as one of Kaohsiung’s top 10 souvenirs. The baking skill of traditional pastry has been passed down through five generations, and store owners make their unique products in combination with Kaohsiung’s local culture and history. They are socially responsible and have established a charitable workshop to help people with disabilities develop employability baking skills.

In 1708, ancestors of the Kuo family left their native home in China's Fujian, crossed the Taiwan Strait, and arrived in Taipei. In 1867, Kuo, Liang-chen built a squat mudbrick shop in Shilin, Taipei, where he started a pastry business. In memory of his hometown ancestral hall, he gave his store the same name, “Yuan Ye.” Every piece of Kuo Yuan Ye pastry is made with extraordinary skills passed down through generations. While tasting them, you would feel like you have gone back to the old days, filled with blissful memories. From a small shop with no signboard, Kuo Yuan Ye has grown to become renowned for its dedication to preserving the traditional Taiwanese culture and offering aesthetic pastries. Today Kuo Yuan Ye is not only Taiwan’s most historic pastry shop, but also the symbol of Taiwanese pastry culture.

Origin Agriculture is located in the best rice farmland in Taiwan, Chishang, a place called the “pure land” in the East Rift Valley. Origin Agriculture is a heirloom Black Indica Rice crop grown, using natural farming methods.

Black Indica Rice is the most special rice in Taiwan, its wonderful aroma and taste is suitable for multiple cuisines, and enhancing the pleasure of eating. Also the rice has high antioxidant content, and has been shown to help prevent diseases associated with chronic inflammation, such as diabetes, and cardio-vascular disease.

Ka-vulungan is a noun of Paiwan language, the original meaning is thumb. The word also using by tribal people to describe “the best” or the “the biggest” thing they had ever seen. Chin Ho Li originated in Qing dynasty, produced farming tools. In 1937, knife factory set up. During the War II, Chin Ho Li collected the bombshells to make knives, and thus opened the new chapter of the company and Kinmen knives.

Shu’s Pottery, located in Ying-ge Town—Taiwan’s most famous town for ceramic ware—has been in the business of ceramic art for almost a century, since four generations of the Shu family began making exquisite ceramics in 1926.

Now it is engaged in teaching pottery as well as guiding tourists through its ceramics museum. It's also focused on the branding of Cocera, which emphasizes locality, humanity and creativity, while making ceramic wares with traditional techniques and employing artistic, modern designs. The Shu's are hoping to create some interactivity and buzz in order to promote Ying-ge ceramics in the international market.
