Get ready to smash your way to the top on Switch! By Shelly Alessi The opening of the trailer for Super Smash Bros. shows the Inklings from Splatoon fighting one another, until a blazing symbol in the distance stops the action to reveal several mysterious characters in darkness. The teaser trailer has left many of us wanting to know more about the much-anticipated Super Smash Bros. game coming to Nintendo Switch. Until Nintendo makes an official announcement at E3, there is little we can confirm. In previous versions, Smash Bros. is a one to eight player fighting game created around Nintendo characters, with a host of other various characters. The game can be played either locally, or online with other players from around the world. The designs for the stages are based on classic Nintendo home console games. We can anticipate that Super Smash Bros. will be a similar Melee fighting game, but the burning question is who are the playable characters going to be?

Bowser Samus

We zoomed in on a still of the trailer so you can see there are so many characters represented! We could recognize Samus and Bowser right away! Who do you think is in this pic? 8 Little Player Magazine

Mario Mario, Link and the Inklings are the only confirmed characters so far, but who are the others? In the past, Super Smash Bros. has featured Samus, Bowser, Pikachu, Mega Man and many others! At this point, we can only guess as to which characters might be playable. We will be able to tell you much more detailed information in the next issue of Little Player.

Yoshi’s new adventure is coming soon to a Switch near you!

By Shelly Alessi

Yoshi will soon have his very own Switch game! This 2-player action platformer is similar to Yoshi’s Wooly World and Paper Mario. Graphically speaking, the game looks like a miniature diorama. The backgrounds look like they are made of paper and cardboard. Yoshi swallows enemies to create eggs which can eliminate bad guys, break objects, or allow you to interact with switches and other background elements. But wait, there’s an interesting twist on this Yoshi game: you get to play the back side of the levels as well! There are surprises and different views when you go to the flip side of each level adding a whole new layer of exploration. Be sure to explore the flip side as there will most likely be coins and other items waiting to be had. You can play the game in single player mode or ask a friend to join you on the adventure! A launch date has not been announced just yet, but rest assured, Yoshi will be a fantastic addition to your Nintendo Switch collection when it releases! 10 Little Player Magazine

Playing tennis on the family TV was just the beginning! By Todd Friedman

As we celebrate the upcoming release of Mario Tennis Aces for the Switch, we thought it would be fun to look back on one of the first video games to emulate the sport of tennis. Pong, which was released by Atari in 1975, was in fact, one of the earliest home video games ever made! Pong is a tennis-like sports game featuring simple two-dimensional graphics. The player controls an ingame paddle by moving it vertically across the left or right side of the screen. You can compete against either a computer-controlled opponent or another player controlling a second paddle on the opposing side of the screen. Players use the paddles to hit the ball back and forth. Points are earned when one fails to return the ball to the other side just like in tennis or ping-pong. The aim is for a player to earn more points than the opponent. It may look simple by today’s standards, but 40 years later this classic video game can still deliver fun times for players of all ages! 12 Little Player Magazine

Luigi’s Mansion, arguably the best game on the classic Nintendo GameCube, is being remastered for the 3DS. What we can see from the preview footage is it will be a fully-blown, enhanced version of the classic with the lush graphics of the 3DS, perhaps made on the same engine as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. It contains the same characters from the former title, a new Boss Rush mode to embolden the series beyond its original pretenses, and an all-new in-game map on the lower screen helps you find your way. Kirby Star Allies is a fun game that is great for all ages! You get to team up with a huge cast of characters to help you progress through the levels. You can also change the skills you have by acquiring new allies. Once you have picked up a weapon, you can add an effect to it such as fire or ice to really do some damage. This game is a little on the easy side, but super fun from start to finish!

Kirby Star Allies is a really fun game! I like that you can throw hearts at enemies and turn them into allies. There are so many weapons and abilities to learn! You can choose the levels on the map and go back to find all the secrets. The difficulty level does get harder the farther you go, but it never is too tough or frustrating. Multiplayer mode is one of the best parts of the game!

9.0

The new Kirby is a blast to play. It’s easy, but not so simplistic that it gets boring. Plus, being able to have your friends (or the computer if nobody is around) play with you is really great. I enjoyed being able to power up abilities too. Kirby turning into a curling stone is awesome! While the main game seems kind of short, there are additional modes to keep you busy.

While Fe has interesting graphics, the abstract interaction with the environments create a confusing and frustrating experience. Figuring out what to do was not easy to understand and I can see younger players feeling lost right away. The game really needs a tutorial level so you can get used to the controls and learn the basics. Looks and sounds fantastic, but far too perplexing to be much fun.

Fe is a beautiful game that will have you bouncing over rocks, swimming through rivers, and climbing mountains while you look for gems to upgrade your powers. Detective Pikachu is fun game but you should know there is a ton of reading involved. As a result, the pacing might be a little slow for fans of the usual Pokémonthemed action games. The tried and true concept of a virtual pet is a solid one and should be lots of fun. This game is plagued with the least endearing aspects of free-to-play mobile games such as repetitive ads and nagging microtransactions at every turn. While it is very cute and it has its moments, the constant barrage of in-game marketing might even keep the most patient players from enjoying it.

BIG REVIEW TIM

My Tamagotchi Forever delivers some fun times. It’s definitely geared towards a younger audience in terms of gameplay, but I found it very amusing. You need to take care of a virtual pet. That means they will need to be fed, bathed, and assisted with some very basic daily tasks. I can definitely see younger players enjoying their time with it while on the go. 30 Little Player Magazine

Though the doughy charm of the old characters holds up, the game is a strangely surreal experience. A dry, repetitive circle of playing menial minigames, watching pointless ads to reap coins for your little pet is accompanied by dead silence. The pet evolves, it eats, it poops, it sleeps, and unless you decide to watch more ads, you wait to do it all over again.

This is a great game where you have to take care of a Tamagotchi, a Pokémonlike character that has different looks at they go through life. I didn’t think much of the game at first, but as I kept playing I started to enjoy it more and more. I never came around to how the money system works in the game but otherwise found it to be a lot of fun.
