Mayor’s Message

GOLD WINNERS

Hello! As I commence this new civic year as your Mayor I am pleased to say that I do so with some new councillors and some old friends by my side. I have lived, worked and raised my two children in this area for over forty years. For the last four years I have been a member of the Town Council. In the next twelve months I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, especially those of you who are new residents to our lovely town. Please do visit our town meetings occasionally to meet us and to find out more about your new community. Details of meetings can be found in here Progress, on our website and on town notice boards. Come and share in the action and the shaping of our town – we really do value your opinions and ideas. Progress, published quarterly, is one of the ways in which we can communicate details of all the news, events and activities in the Town. From our annual sandcastle competition to exhibitions and our famous Armed Forces Day, we’ll make sure that these important dates are ready for your calendars and diaries in good time. This publication also enables us to promote your varied cultural interests. There is so much colour and diversity in our town and we are happy to spread the word about fundraising, clubs and societies when space allows, and I am always delighted to be asked to any events that you may be hosting. Please do contact me via the Town Council. Sport, the arts, business, horticulture, community and voluntary services – because we value our townspeople we have several initiatives in place to recognise the achievements of residents of all ages. Again, details of these schemes, awards and competitions can be found within these pages during the year. With warm regards, Cllr Marian Ayres, Town Mayor

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme a programme of summer fun! Taking place at various locations all over the Town, Littlehampton’s summer events programme includes some real high fliers for 2015, with the now traditional flight of old war planes once again topping the bill at Armed Forces Day on 27 June.

As well as stalls, military groups and marching bands, a showcase of aerial stunts will be performed by the Great War Display team, with the BBMF Spitfire flypast turning the Town’s hopefully cloudless skies into a platform for a breath-taking display of aviation history.

Also promising to be a crowd-pleaser, the return of the Screen on the Green presents the hit film Mamma Mia! Sure to see attendees yelling ‘thank you for the music,’ polish your platforms and dig out your flares for this fabulous free event. A boat jumble, Wick Week, live music, family events, exhibitions and much more, all taking place at a variety of locations right across Littlehampton, hang on to the What’s On Guide in this issue of Progress so that you don’t miss out on the dazzling array of fun in the sun.
