Help preserve our heritage
Mayor’s As the year comes to a close, I find myself looking back over the first few months of my term of office and am delighted to report that community spirit is alive, well and doing great things in our Town. I have met so many inspirational people, each of them toiling away to support local groups, organisations and events. It has been my great pleasure to witness firsthand the kindness and generosity that exists among our residents. Long may it continue!

During the consultation on the Littlehampton Neighbourhood Plan concern was raised by the community about the potential loss of heritage assets around the town through demolition or redevelopment. Following the adoption of the Plan a community group has been formed, supported by the Town Council, to address these concerns and to assist the Planning Authority. The group will be aiming to create and update supplementary planning guidance to protect existing heritage and prioritise individual heritage assets. They intend to work with the Planning Authority and Conservation Officer to ensure validation through the planning process. Establishing a design statement for Littlehampton, for consultation with the local community and exploring new ways of sustaining assets through fund raising are also key objectives. Volunteers are sought to assist the group with the gathering and collation of information. If you have an interest in our heritage and are interested in helping out please contact the Town Council on 01903 732063 or email ltc@littlehampton-tc.gov.uk

Never was the indomitable Littlehampton spirit more in evidence than at our annual Town Show & Family Fun Day. The weather was not kind, but nobody allowed it to get in the way of the celebrations. Typically, the very next day I was officiating at the 10k race in aid of the Chestnut Tree House and the sunshine was glorious! Speaking of the weather, please keep an eye on your elderly and vulnerable neighbours as winter takes hold. The cold can be perilous to the elderly and infirm, so please take a few minutes out of your day to make sure those at risk are well and warm. The second half of my Mayoral year looks set to be full of exciting projects and I hope to meet many more of you in the months ahead. I would also ask you, please, to do what you can to help me support my chosen Mayor’s charity; Coastal West Sussex Mind. I wish you a very happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
