Little Branch

Little Branch is an Australian made artisan paper line of gift cards, wrapping paper and limited edition art prints. Sustainable and upcycled materials are key to our line, hence our motto: Recycled Emotion.

Little Branch is Maree Oaten: graphic designer, world traveller, Virgo, photographer, mother of three and collector of shoes, evocative fonts, fabric swatches, orphaned doll houses and handmade papers. Little Branch is Anna Johnson: artist, author and poet, arch romantic, Pisces, tree lover, mother of one and collector of vintage dresses, teacups, abstract art and fallen branches.

All of the original artwork for Little Branch is handpainted on hand-made watercolour paper and upcycled paper fragments, with a size four paint brush, Anna’s favourite. Maree’s love of collage means there will always be something peculiar and subtle folded into the mix, look out for raining buttons, melting pirate ships, hessian leaves or a new moon transposed from a blue diamond.

The newest additions to our range are dedicated to all the romantic rebels and adamant daydreamers out there.

ABOUT THE COLLECTIONS Moonbeams & Polkadots The Little Branch bridal collection is a mixed bunch, integrating gentle humour, blazing romance, wild white paint and a pair of rebellious red satin shoes. We also adore very simple, almost austere wedding invitations, leaving space for self expression and we love the melancholy beauty of a solitary lace dress floating on its hanger long after the last waltz has ended.

Roses are Red Our favourite childhood memories consist of extremely simple realities: warm laundry, peaceful kitchens, water lapping on bare feet, and the most outlandish fancies. We love our kids and now we have the beginnings of a collection that reflects their world and it ain’t pink and it doesn’t always go VROOOM.

Rags & Glory ‘Rags and Glory’ springboards from the illustrations featured in Anna’s book “Savvy Chic: The Art of More for Less”. The heart of the book, and the artwork, is that of the vagabond thrift seeker.

All that is aged, a bit broken, fragile, treasured, well used and well worn, is what we love.

Origami Blues Maree has been collecting Japanese origami papers for years.

Anna’s first watercolours were only executed in Prussian blue ink on ivory Arches watercolour paper. We fused our love of orientalism, solitude, bleeding symbolist flowers, Baudelaire and rain for this line.

Exploding Love Flowerbomb Australian summer is a savage beauty. The air seems to sweat with star jasmine and sea salt at dusk. Camelias disintegrate into the pavement, flowers so abundant that no-one seems to notice the petal carpet beneath their sandalled feet. But we noticed.

LITTLE BRANCH WRAPPING PAPER Wrapping paper needs to be hoarded, folded, coveted and re-born in children’s collage, or found lining drawers or even wallpapering a doll house.

Our wrapping paper is printed on an uncoated paper stock, made from elemental chlorine free bleached pulp, sourced from ‘Farmed Trees’ and other sustainably managed sources.

It is manufactured by an ISO 14001 certified mill.

Once when I was small I realised there had to be a place where the rain stopped. So I chased the rain and found a corner where I could put my hand out and it was dry. I had to walk a long long way to find the play where the water and the sun form an invisible seam. It was the rainbow’s edge I guess.

Nature distracts

Our vision for spring/summer this year is one of simultaneous immersing colour and sensation of line. Like falling into a Bonnard landscape the earth is vibrating and the foliage is febrile, alive with heat, humidity and the tempestuous breeze.

Spring is the seas of promise, fecundity and winsome yearning. Throw that coat to one side and kick off your shoes. The grass is wet and it is singing.
