For business owners and staff, kind words are a real morale booster – it shows that their hard work is noticed and appreciated. Reviews also highlight what people value most, whether that’s great service, quick help, or a welcoming space. So next time you enjoy a coffee, get your car serviced, or hire a tradie, take a moment to share a few words online – it’s an easy way to support your community.

Fed up of weeding and mulching your garden beds? Here are 8 reasons why ground cover plants could be the answer.
Weed suppression
Ground covers form dense mats of foliage, making it difficult for weeds to germinate and grow. This reduces the need for chemical herbicides or manual weeding.
Erosion control
Ground cover plants help stabilise the ground in areas such as slopes, embankments, or exposed soil. Their roots hold onto the soil, preventing it from washing away during heavy rain or strong winds.
Moisture retention
By covering the soil surface, ground cover plants reduce water evaporation, which helps to retain moisture in the soil.
Temperature regulation
Ground cover acts like a living mulch, insulating the soil and keeping it cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
Habitat for wildlife
Flowering ground covers can attract pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds. Even non-flowering varieties can provide shelter for beneficial insects and small animals, increasing biodiversity.

Ground covers add visual interest with varying textures and colours. They can soften edges, fill gaps between pavers, and create lush, carpetlike effects under trees or along borders.
By covering bare soil, ground covers help protect against compaction and promote healthy microbial activity.
Though initial planting may require some effort, ground covers can save time and money in the long-term through reduced maintenance, water and fertiliser than lawns or taller plants.

Practical tips and clever ideas to make your life easier.
Keep a roll of masking tape and a sharpie pen in your kitchen drawer to quickly and easily label leftovers.
Water bottle storage
Keep reuseable water bottles under control by storing them in a wine rack.
To maintain the scent of your fragrances, store the bottles in a cupboard or drawer, away from sunlight and humidity. Storing your perfume out on the bathroom counter for long periods can cause the scent to deteriorate.
1 Read the entire recipe before starting. Baking is science and missing a step can ruin everything.
2 Don’t overmix, especially with flour-based batters like cakes or muffins. Overmixing leads to a tough texture.
3 Preheat your oven, always. Baking relies on precise temperature. Starting cold affects rise and texture.
4 Use room-temperature eggs for fluffier, lighter cakes.
3 parts oil (eg olive oil, grape seed oil)
2 parts vinegar (eg balsamic vinegar, red or white wine vinegar, lemon juice)
1 part flavour (eg honey, maple syrup, soy sauce, mustard)
Combine and shake in a jar for easy vinaigrette.
Tearing lettuce, instead of chopping it, can help preserve nutrients and prevent wilting and browning, especially if the salad is not eaten immediately.
Wet hair is fragile and prone to breaking. To minimise damage, let your hair air-dry until it’s 50-60% dry before exposing it to heat from the blow dryer.
If you’re peeling potatoes for mash, keep the skins and turn them into a crispy snack! Scrub and dry the potatoes before peeling, then toss the skins in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes until crispy.

z 2 salmon fillets, skin on
z Olive oil
z 300g baby potatoes
z 1 tbs herb butter (see recipe below)
z 6 fresh asparagus spears, cut into thirds
z 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
z Lemon wedges, to serve
Pat the salmon dry with paper towel. Drizzle with a little olive oil and season with salt. Set aside.
Boil baby potatoes until cooked through and tender (about 15 minutes).
While the potatoes are cooking, heat a large frypan over moderate heat. Add a little olive oil and cook the asparagus until fork-tender.
Drain the potatoes and press each one until the skin just splits. Add the herb butter, asparagus and spinach leaves to the potatoes and gently stir to combine. Add a squeeze of lemon and season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover to keep warm and allow the spinach to wilt.
z 125g salted butter, softened
z 2 cloves garlic, crushed

Bring the frypan to low-moderate heat and add the salmon fillets, skin-side down. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until skin is crisp. Flip the fillets over and cook for 2-3 minutes, until cooked to your liking.
Serve salmon with the herby potato salad, and lemon wedges on the side.
Serves 2
z 4-5 tbs finely chopped fresh herbs (eg parsley, thyme, dill, tarragon)
Place in a bowl and mix until combined. The herb butter can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 weeks, or wrapped in parchment and frozen. Preparing herb butter is a clever way to avoid wasting fresh herbs, and can be used to give a flavour boost to just about any meal!

We all know the obvious things such as plastic bottles and takeaway coffee cups are bad for the environment – but what about those things that aren’t so obvious?
Tea bags
Several tea bag brands use a form of plastic to keep their bags from falling apart.
z Heat sealed tea bags (with the crimped edges) contain plastic
z Most ‘silken’ tea bags are made from plastic (not silk)
z String and tag tea bags – some may contain plastic for extra strength
Chewing gum
Most manufacturers list ‘gum base’ in their ingredients and most gum bases contain polyethylene. This is also used to make plastic bottles, plastic bags and to seal tea bags.
Drink cans
Every drink can is lined with a plastic resin, usually epoxy. Without it, the drink inside would corrode the aluminium.
Wrapping paper
Did you know that, although it looks like fabric, lots of ribbons are now made of plastic, and lots of wrapping paper now has a plastic coating.

Wet wipes of all kinds are a huge problem for the environment as they don’t degrade during a flush or break down in the sewer system. They make their way into the ocean and are ingested by sea life.
z Tea bags – loose leaf tea is a better option and there are lots of gadgets and gizmos out there to make an individual cup rather than having to use a teapot.
z Chewing gum - there are some plastic-free options in supermarkets and online - or you could just give it a miss!
z Ribbons and wrapping paper – choose paper ribbons and use plain brown paper or even recycled newspaper and get creative with your parcel decorations.

z Wet wipes – try biodegradable cotton wool or a re-usable flannel with your own choice of soap or lotion.
z Instead of ‘flushable’ toilet wipes (which, despite the name, are not good for your pipes!) stick to normal toilet paper.
The friendly, honest and professional team at Epoxy Sealed will make sure your tiled areas are waterproof by replacing and repairing any tiles or grout that have cracked or deteriorated. They also will always leave your home clean and tidy after the job is completed.
Waterproofing and leak repairs

A leaky shower can cause serious issues if it’s not repaired fast. Water seeping through tiles and grout can weaken walls, floors, and ceilings, causing mould, stains, and even electrical hazards. They can check your shower and make any necessary repairs.
Replacement tiles
Got a cracked tile? No worries! The experienced team can take a look and repair or replace any damaged tiles, keeping your walls and floors looking fabulous and functional! Whether it’s for your bathroom or laundry, it will make a huge difference.
Epoxy grout

Epoxy grout is known for its durability, stain resistance, and ability to withstand harsh cleaning chemicals. Unlike traditional cement-based grout, epoxy grout is less porous, making it ideal for areas that are prone to moisture and staining, such as bathrooms and kitchens.

TIME SAVERS
If you already dusted off the winter cobwebs from your barbecue, here are some great time-saving tips so no one will be waiting for lunch or dinner!
Q Before you start, always check that you have enough gas for your barbecue. Having to dash out for a refill will be a big-time waster!
Q Poach sausages ahead and store in the fridge so they’re cooked – then just brown them on the barbie.
Q Blanche vegetables in boiling water for about 30 seconds or slice them thinly before cooking.

Q Close the lid to cook food that is thicker than about 2cm.
Q Choose thinner steaks or chicken tenderloins so they will cook faster.
Q Take meat from fridge 30 minutes before cooking or it’ll be too cold.
Q Always make sure your BBQ grill and plates are preheated before you start.
Q Instead of cooking large pieces of meat, cut them up and make kebabs instead.
It’s time to start planning for the hot weather that’s on the horizon. It can be hard to keep your garden looking good in summer, but with a few smart tips, you can keep it vibrant and healthy.
Mulch!
This is a garden’s best friend in the hot weather. It shields the soil (and in turn, the plant’s roots) from the sun and reduces water evaporation.
Water slowly
This encourages deep roots which can tap into water resources deep into the soil.
Plants in pots
Water more often and less thoroughly, because water in pots will trickle out of the holes in the bottom. Move them to a shady spot if you can and water twice on very hot days.

Budding plants are working hard and need to be kept hydrated. Remember to water them often.
Keep your lawn longer
Longer lawns hold onto moisture so it’s easier to keep them looking healthy.
Now’s not the best time for planting, transplanting, or pruning – it could kickstart new growth that might not be ready to face the summer heat.

Joel Smartt has been passionately restoring and repairing tiled roofs for over 20 years and takes pride in ensuring his finished work is a high standard and will last for years to come. He can do small repair jobs through to full restorations.
After about 10 to 15 years your tiled roof begins to show wear and tear. The paint fades, and moss, dirt and lichen will build up on the tiles. Your ridge capping can also crack, which causes leaks that will damage your insulation, ceilings and home. A roof restoration will make it look brand new again with no signs of the old coloured roof.
Restoring a roof normally takes around 2-3 days. Your home will be left clean and tidy after with only a brand new looking roof to admire.

Tiled roof restoration includes
A ll broken & damaged tiles replaced
Roof high pressure cleaned using 4,000psi
Ridge capping resealed with flexible pointing
Sealer/primer is applied
A nti-fungal treatment applied (clay tiles)
Two coats of high-quality Nutech paint applied
Wide range of colours
A ll rubbish removed
A ll work to Australian standards with a 10-year guarantee on workmanship & paint

Spring may signal the arrival of warmer weather, but it also brings the danger of paralysis ticks for your pets. Making sure you know how to spot ticks will help to keep your furry bestie safe – and both cats and dogs can be affected.
z Wobbliness and weakness in the back legs, staggering or not being able to get up
z A change in the sound of the bark or voice
z Retching, coughing (sometimes it is a moist cough), and vomiting
z Excessive drooling
z Loss of appetite
z Progressive paralysis to include the forelegs
z Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
z Grunting noises when breathing
If you’re not sure, but your dog or cat is showing abnormal behaviour or symptoms, see your vet as quickly as possible.
z Ticks or tick craters can be felt as lumps on the skin surface.
z Most ticks are found on the face, neck, and ears, but check everywhere just in case.
z Star t at your pet’s nose and slowly examine the face, forehead, and ears (inside and out). Also search the eyes and lips and the skin/fur around the eyes and lips.
z Carefully examine all skin folds as well.
z Remove any collars and search the neck area.
z Search the shoulder area and then down the shoulders to the front legs. Check between each toe and under surface of the front feet. Also check under the ‘armpits’.
z Examine the chest area, all along the back, sides, belly, groin area, around the tail and anus and the thighs, back legs, in between the back leg toes and feet (including the under surface).
z If your pet shows signs of tick toxicity or you find a crater or a tick on your pet, take them to the vet immediately. Do not offer food or water or give anything orally.
z Make a habit of treating your pet with parasite preventatives every year, as these work against paralysis ticks and can help prevent your pet from becoming sick.

I’m boooooooooooored’. Two words that send a shiver down every parent’s spine! Well, creating an ‘I’m Bored’ jar can take the pressure off.
Grab an empty container - a jar, an old biscuit tin or even an old shoe box. Next, get your kids to decorate it (a boredom busting activity in itself!). You can have the same container for all your kids or separate ones, depending on their ages.
Activities galore
Next, write a variety of activities on separate pieces of paper (you could also use wooden pop sticks). The activities can be anything you like - games, puzzles, reading, craft

activities (such as making paper airplanes or painting a pet rock), or even household chores! (If that doesn’t put them off crying boredom, nothing will!).
Stress-free!
Then, whenever they utter those two little words, they pull out an activity at random, and they must do whatever is written down – no arguments! It’s just a fun way of breaking the boredom and trying to decide what to do next.
