Syosset educator named NYS Master Teacher

Award. The annual student art and literary magazine, under the leadership of club officers Sabrina Guo, Nandini Singh and Shirley Zhu, and faculty advisor Tracey
Brice, received a designation of “Excellent” for their 2021 edition “Make Your Voice Matter.” It was one of five Long Island high school publications to receive this designation.
Early childhood program
The Syosset High School Human Ecology Department will once again be accepting registration for their parttime program for preschool aged children. Any child who is a Syosset resident and four years old is eligible for the program. The Childhood Education class uses a mul-
tisensory approach to learning. High school students with prerequisites in developmental psychology, teach age-appropriate curriculum using a thematic approach in eight learning areas. The program starts in mid-October and runs for the full year with a break
in between following the school calendar. Classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:15 a.m.–11:15 a.m. Registration for the program is ongoing. Please call Marissa Maltz at 516-364-5719 for information.

Thompson Middle School biology teacher Krista Hachadoorian has been selected as one of 230 teachers to be named a New York State Master Teacher. This honor makes her a part of an expert community of over 1400 outstanding K–12 STEM and computer science educators throughout the state who share a passion for their own learning and for collaborating with colleagues to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. Mrs. Hachadoorian, who has been teaching science at H.B. Thompson Middle School since
1998, earned her Bachelor of Arts in biology/secondary education from Hofstra University and her Master of Arts in instructional technology from New York Institute of Technology. She is a Level I Google Certified Educator and is a NY certified Educational Technology Specialist. Currently teaching seventh grade science, Mrs. Hachadoorian has also held many roles at H.B. Thompson Middle School, including advisor of the HBT Craft Club, and being an active member of district-wide professional development and decision-making committees. She is particularly proud of her participation in many of the innovative technology programs including a pilot Chromebook program which led to a 1:1 Chromebook initiative districtwide. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Hachadoorian enjoys being outdoors and can often be found snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding. As a NYS Master Teacher, Mrs. Hachadoorian looks forward to collaborating with other STEM educators and helping mentor upcoming teachers. The NYS Master Teacher Program celebrates the work of the highest-performing STEM teachers by establishing an expert community dedicated to developing expertise in the areas of content, pedagogy, and students’ families and communities.
