Verselandia! traditionally features Portland and Gresham’s outstanding youth poets performing original work at the historic Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, and the first annual East Side Slam! debuted in 2019 at the wonderful Mt. Hood Community College. Students from local public high schools compete in individual school slams to qualify for the grand slam events. Due to distance learning, we have reimagined the competition to take place online. Just like our other slam poetry programs, #Virtualandia 2021 is a powerful community moment to reaffirm that young people’s voices matter.
