Seed is the fifth and final in a series of exhibitions through which Jenny Kitchener has sought to highlight the importance of pollinating insects and birds and their essential contribution to plant reproduction.
One of the best ways to restore natural habitats to help fight global warming is through natural regeneration from seeds, and for that we need pollinators. Many of the pollinators are declining in numbers, mainly due to land clearing and indiscriminate use of pesticides.
‘The seed is the first - and last - step in the cycle of most plant life. The title of this exhibition can be taken both literally and metaphorically. I view this final exhibition in my long engagement with the process of pollination as an end product, which comes with the promise of a new beginning - in much the same way as a seed does.’
