LISLE 202

STUDENTS SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETICS/ACTIVITIES TO FEEL A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL, TO FEEL A SENSE OF SCHOOL PRIDE, TO GAIN NEW SKILLS IN SOMETHING THEY LOVE AND HOPEFULLY GET A CHANCE TO SEE THEIR IDEAS AND CONTRIBUTIONS BENEFIT A TEAM.

Lisle 202 is proud to offer a wide variety of athletic opportunities to our students...but it might be for more reasons than you think. Our district believes that engaging and challenging students to excel is central to building skills and habits that are essential for work and life. Athletics is one way to accomplish this.
ENGAGEMENT
A wide body of research has shown that extra-curricular participation positively effects students’ success in school. Here in Lisle, we encourage our students to try as many things as possible to find that thing they are passionate about...the thing that gets them excited each day. For many students, engaging in athletics is more than just playing a sport, it is a way to build relationships and hone positive attributes that can be applied beyond the school experience.
LEADERSHIP
Leadership takes many forms on a team. Our athletes are encouraged to lead through committing to their personal and team growth, building communication skills, and through positive support for one another.
LIFE SKILLS
Lisle 202 is committed to supporting students in acquiring skills that translate to life beyond our schools. Understanding how to effectively balance school and athletics is crucial as well as contributing to a team. Sophomore Avery C. said, “I’ve learned how to interact and work with others to be a successful team.”
EXCELLENCE
Lisle 202 sets a standard of excellence both for individuals as well as our teams. We celebrate personal growth in striving for excellence as well as the collective accomplishments of our teams.
STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETICS AND/ OR ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOL LEARN VALUABLE SKILLS FOR WORK AND LIFE SUCH AS TEAMWORK, COOPERATION, RESPONSIBILITY, PROBLEM-SOLVING, DECISION-MAKING, TIME MANAGEMENT, AND LEADERSHIP.
Providing robust extra-curricular opportunities allows Lisle 202 students to participate in activities that tap into their interests, expand their experiences, as well as interact with staff and peers in a supportive and engaging environment outside of the classroom. With 11 clubs/activities at Lisle Junior High School and 20 clubs/activities at Lisle High School, our students have access to a variety of both competitive and non-competitive activities to explore and enjoy.
When we asked our students what type of personal skills they have developed as a result of their involvement with activities at school, Sophomore Nicole P. said, “Creativity, respect, leadership. They are the foundation of what we do in our every day lives and helps to make us great people.”
I THINK OTHER STUDENTS SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN ANY TYPE OF ACTIVITY BECAUSE THEY WILL LEARN HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHO ENJOY THE SAME THINGS, AND BUILD MULTIPLE RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE IN THE SAME COMMUNITY.

YEARBOOK
Lisle District 202 is committed to providing our learning community with the essential education, skills, and experiences for future success.
In 2014, Lisle 202 launched Vision 202, a large-scale collaborative process designed to gather feedback to identify our learning community’s priorities. Vision 202 in 2023 is similar in focus, but the format includes small group conversations of approximately 10-15 participants per session. Over the course of nine meetings this past spring, parents/guardians and representatives from our school district engaged in dialogue about ways to support our students’ experience and success during their time in Lisle 202 and beyond.
Each meeting focused on three main questions: What do you like most about your school or school district, what would you like to see changed at your school or school district, and what do you want most from your child’s (elementary, junior high, high school) experience to prepare them for the next level? Key themes emerged from the Vision 202 conversations held so far and provide valuable insight as the Board of Education and Administration plan for the future.
Like - Small class size, communication, relationships with staff
Adjust - Improve Board Meeting Summaries, provide more purposeful instruction to students on how to navigate positive and negative situations and interactions
School Experience - Assist students with learning how to navigate difficult situations with peers/coaches/staff, ensure students are prepared for the rigor and routines of the next level
Like - Students feel comfortable and engaged despite the building’s physical size, modern facility
Adjust - Improve consistency of classroom communication, increase after-school opportunities
ELEMENTARY
School Experience - Provide a fifth grade visit to prepare for sixth grade, ensure students understand the expectations for junior high
Like - Emphasis on student interactions, variety of student opportunities to get involved
Adjust - Enhance science curriculum, increase frequency & consistency of grade reporting
School Experience - Ensure students understand the expectations for high school
JUNIOR HIGH
Like - Multiple co- and extra-curricular options, academic and career course offerings both at Lisle High School and the Technology Center of DuPage
HIGH SCHOOL
Adjust - Improve parent understanding of graduation requirements, provide opportunities for student feedback on courses, instructors, sports, & coaches
School Experience - Incorporate more opportunities for career exploration (internships/presenters)
We will continue the Vision 202 conversations in 2023 by engaging with alumni, current students, staff, and community members. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming months!
