4 Crucial Steps for a Successful AEM Content Migration Content migration has become an essential component of an effective website redesign. It is the process of moving website content from one platform to another. Content migration can either be done manually or in an automated manner and one of the powerful Content Management Solution (CMS) available today is the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). Right strategy and planning are required for successful AEM Implementation and it can be a challenging task. Through the hundreds of AEM sites that Xeliumtech has launched, we have created a process that can result in victorious AEM implementation.

Steps of the process are as follows: 1) Content Evaluation This is the initial step of the entire Content Migration Process. All stakeholders and the content owner should be actively involved and work collaboratively to define, identify the types, and find the current content’s source and state. After performing such steps, content evaluation should be followed both in respect to quality and quantity. One can filtrate all the outdated content from the evaluation metrics and finalize the content to be migrated.

2) Content Mapping After finalizing the content evaluation, the next step is to start the mapping between the old and current JCR properties in the AEM. During this process, identify all the attributes from the old system which needs to be migrated and all the corresponding attributes in the AEM JCR, which needs to be populated.

3) Content Migration Once the evaluation and mapping are done, the next step is to migrate the content. In this process, the content is extracted from a similar or diversified resource, transformed to a format compatible for storage and analysis, and loaded to the destination. There are many ETL tools available in the market for content migration. Let’s have a look at the three-step process: a) Extraction – legacy system may export content in flat file structures like CSV, XML, etc. In this step, the content is extracted from the source system before further processing.
