Who is

Rinske?

Meet Rinske Stevens, an inspirational and hardworking woman. Her passion for designing beautiful new products started in a rough period of her life.

With her creativity, she could easily clear her mind and not think about the illness of two of her four children.

“It all started in Germany, where my passion for cardboard grew while using the most beautiful fabrics”. While inventing her products, she noticed that high quality fabrics complement the Creative

with Cardboard products even more, but also laces or even embroidery stitches make the product personal.

“That’s the unique selling point of our products.

Every person can create his or her own box and add the most diverse decorations”. Rinske is extremely proud that her products are available in the USA and she will always aim to be present at Quilt Festival in Houston. So, do you want to meet Rinske herself?

How to make a

Needle Keeper Cut a piece of fabric for the outside cover of 7-1/4” x 4-3/4”. Glue the cover (A), back (B), cover (A) in this order on the fabric leaving a 1/8” (3mm) space in between the parts so it is still able to bend.

Cut the fabric straight towards the cardboard corner so the fabric will fall out (picture 2). Glue the longest sides (top and bottom) of the fabric onto the cover (A B A) using pressure when gluing the space in between the parts (picture 3). Cut the short sides of the seam 1/16” (2mm) from the cardboard slantwise (picture 4).

Glue the fabric onto the cardboard. Be sure to glue properly to avoid bubbles underneath the fabric.

Now we are going to cover the inside hinge of the needle keeper (picture 6). Cut a strip of 3-5/8” x 2” and glue a 3/8” (1cm) seam at the top and bottom of this strip and glue this piece of fabric exactly in the middle of the cover, covering part B and the sides of the two A-parts. Start gluing from the middle, press well in the openings between the cardboard so the needle keeper is still able to bend. Take the C-parts and lay one doubled layer of batting onto each part, you might even use a few dots of glue to attach it slightly. Cut the batting so it is the exact size as the C-parts (picture 7).

Now it is time to cover the batting with fabric as well.

Cut two 4-3/4” x 8” pieces for both C-parts. Place fabrics right sides down with parts C, batting facing down, on top (picture 8). Cut the corners as shown in picture 8 and glue the longest sides (top and bottom) of the fabric onto the cardboard. Cut both small sides diagonal starting at 1/8” (3mm) from the cardboard (picture 9). Glue both ‘short’ sides to the cardboard.

Be sure to ‘pull’ the fabric slightly while sticking it onto the cardboard. This will make your needle keeper look professional in the end!

At this point (picture 10) your parts are ready for the final step. In case you would like to add ribbon to close your needle keeper, this is the time. Cut two pieces of ribbon (20 cm/8” each). Glue each part to the insides of your cover, exactly in the middle and let it dry (picture 11).

Now take both parts C and glue them to the right and left side of the inside of your cover. Press well! You might use some masking tape at this stage to keep the parts C attached to the cover whilst drying.

You needle keeper is done! Great job, we hope you had fun making it!

CWC 01 - Small Sewing Box

CWC 02 - Surprise

This kit includes 100% recycled precision die-cut cardboard and step-by-step instructions to create your personal box in an easy way! The surprise owns its name after the additional box which you can easily take out! The finished box dimensions are 21,5 x 15 x 9,5 cm (8-1/2” x 6” x 3-3/4”). For the Surprise we advise you to use medium (midi) size book corners. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 03 - Medium Notebook

The medium notebook is easy to take with your and large enough to write down all your notes. Not only the 100% recycled and pre-cut cardboard, but also the A6 notepad is included in the kit!

The finished dimensions are 17 x 12 x 2 cm (6-3/4” x 4-3/4” x 3/4”). Recommended book corners is medium (midi). This high-quality cardboard is made from 100% recycled paper. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 04 - Stephany

The Stephany is the perfect size to add appliqués on. The finished box dimensions are 19,5 x 16 x 7 cm (7-3/4” x 6-1/4” x 2-3/4”), and we recommended medium (midi) size book corners. This high-quality cardboard is made from 100% recycled paper. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 05 - Madison

This kit includes precision 100% recycled, die-cut cardboard and step-bystep instructions to create your personal box in an easy way! The Madison is a big box on which you can easily add some embroidery or applications. Finished box dimensions: 32 x 23,5 x 9 cm (12-1/2” x 9-1/4” x 3-1/2”). We recommend you to use large (maxi) book corners to finish the Madison. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 06 - Quilt File

The Quilt File is named after its content; not only the pre-cut cardboard, but also an OLFA cutting mat, batting, and iron quick are included in this kit. Create your personal Quilt File in an easy way!

Finished dimensions are 33,5 x 24,5 x 2 cm (13-1/4” x 9-3/4” x 3/4”). Recommended book corners are large (maxi). Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 07 - Mandy

The Mandy is a medium size box with a drawer and separation parts in the top. The finished box dimensions are 12 x 10,5 x 9 cm (4-3/4” x 4” x 3-1/2”). We recommended you to use medium (midi) size book corners and one drawer pull.

CWC 08 - Two Needle Keepers

Yes, you are correct. There are two needle keepers in this kit. But do you know what is even better? The batting is included as well, and clear instructions help you create these lovely needle keepers in an easy way! Finished dimensions: 8 x 6 x 2 cm (3-1/4” x 2-1/4” x 3/4”). It is not required, but if you use book corners, we recommended the small ones. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

Pattern to decorate your box

I would like to show you how easy it is to personalize your Medium Notebook (CWC03) with a simple wool appliqué. The fabric used on the outside of the Medium Notebook is linen. Linen is a perfect surface to embroider and appliqué on.

First draw the guide-lines on your linen for the A, B and A parts (how you would glue the parts onto the fabric), adding ¾” margin. See instructions for CWC03, included in your kit.

Trace the word “Notes” onto right side of linen and embroider this with 2 strands of black DMC. Try to have as little threads as possible on the backside of the fabric.

Trace the pattern pieces onto fusible web.

As you will see, the pattern pieces have been drawn in reverse for tracing onto the fusible web. Loosely cut out the shapes (don’t cut on the drawn lines until they have been fused to the appliqué wool). Iron the glue side of the

fusible web to the wrong side of the wool. Now cut the pieces on drawn lines.

Using the pattern layout on the right page, arrange the appliqué pieces below the embroidered word “Notes”. Paws and tail are below body part. Head and heart are on top of body part. Whipstitch the pieces in place. Do this with coordinating colour of thread. I used one strand of coordinating DMC embroidery thread.

Once the sheep has been appliquéd to the linen fabric, you may proceed to glue the cardboard parts A, B, A to the backside of the linen. Making sure that your work is perfectly in the middle of the front A-part.

Proceed with the rest of the notebook using the instructions provided in the Creative with Cardboard kit.

CWC 09 - Victorian Sewing Box

The Victiorian Sewing Box is one of our most popular products. When you take the top off, this box will open-up so you can stock all your sewing items inside.

The finished box dimensions are 11,5 x 11 x 12 cm (4-1/2” x 4-1/4” x 4-3/4”) and we recommend small book corners as the cardboard, which covers the top, is only 1mm thick. This high-quality cardboard is made from 100% recycled paper. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 10 - Tissue Box The tissue box will be a long-lasting item on your kitchen table. Be aware that the sizes of the boxes with the swipes are different in Europe and the USA. Some American brands will not fit into the box.

Finished box dimensions: 24 x 12 x 8 cm (9 1/2 x 4 3/4 x 3). Book corners are not required, but if you want them we would advise the small ones. This high-quality cardboard is made from 100% recycled paper.

CWC 11 - Cozy Cottage Doesn’t it look cozy? The Cozy Cottage has a roof that can be opened so you can store all items you like! The finished box dimensions are 29 x 24,5 x 23,5 cm (111/2” x 9-1/2” x 9-1/4”). It is not possible to add any book corners to this house. This high-quality cardboard is made from 100% recycled paper. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

CWC 12 - Three Mini Houses This kit includes 100% recycled, precision die-cut cardboard and stepby-step instructions to create three mini houses for your Christmas tree or as decoration. Heights of the houses: 5,5 x 6,5 x 6,5 cm (2-1/4” x 2-1/2” x 3”). It is not possible to add any book corners to these houses. Fabrics and other contents are not included.

Embellishments

RIbbons and Lace

Embroidery and applique

Using all sorts of items like buttons, beads and other embellishments, you can personalize your box too. When using items made from plastic or metal, you cannot use our bookbinding glue to stick them onto the fabric of the box/ notebook. Use Aleene’s Tacky Glue to stick the items onto your project. Do this when the box/ notebook is finished, adding them as finishing touch. Tacky glue dries clear, no worries when some glue might appear through the button holes. Let dry thoroughly before use.

To make your box/notebook look even nicer, you might want to add some ribbon or lace. Of course you can already sew it onto the fabric you’re going to use on your project. But sometimes it’s easier to add the ribbon or lace afterwards.

If you intend to do appliqué or embroidery on your project, you have to do this before you cover the box with the fabric. Measure well (using the cardboard provided) where your work will have to appear. I always use a Frixion Pen to draw guide-lines on the fabric. Once you know where to embroider or appliqué, finish the work. Try to have as little as possible threads at the back of your work. Now use the prepared fabric as “normal” fabric and attach it to the box/notebook, following the steps in your kit.

When you use cotton ribbon or lace, you can easily use our bookbinding glue to stick it onto your project. Should your ribbon/lace be polyester, it is easier to use Aleene’s Tacky Glue.

As you can see in the picture we need some necessities to start making our Creative with Cardboard products. The most important thing is the bookbinding glue. If you don’t use the right bookbinding glue, your box will not hold a lifetime. Our own bookbinding glue is the best glue to use on the Creative with Cardboard products as it is flexible and sets clear. This glue is acid free, pH neutral, and waterbased. It sets clear,

non-toxic, and will not yellow. Keep away from eyes and do not digest.

Before you start, you will choose your own fabrics to give your box a certain style. You will have to cut the fabric with scissors. Also, to attach the glue to the cardboard you will need a paint tray, paint roller and a brush.

To hold the glued cardboard parts we use masking tape. Make your box personal by adding book corners in your favourite color.

Use a rubber hammer to pound the book corners in place.

The Box for Glasses is especially designed to store your (sun)glasses! This kit includes precision die-cut cardboard and step-by-step instructions. CWC 18 - Tempo-Box

This kit includes 100% recycled precision die-cut cardboard, one pack of Tempo tissues, and step-by-step instructions.

Drawer Pulls Give your Creative with Cardboard kit an amazing finishing by adding metal drawer pulls. Use these pulls to give the finishing touch. Make a small hole at the desired location. Insert and screw into place. There are four different colors, so you can select your favorite one!
