Summer Semester 2022 Project: standard Profs: F. Faccin, A. Mason, I. Kofler Product: Liza Hartlieb

Concept

A creation of different boards which are adjusted to standard food sizes. Round shaped surfaces or certain grooves to cut specific food. More certaintly it is a creation of not only one cutting board is used for everything, much more about one cutting board is used for one shape. So there has to be various boards to cover up every possible shape.

Prototypes First 1 to 2 sized prototypes. Attempt to give an idea how various pattern can work as a cutting surface.

Prototypes The second bunch of prototypes focused more on different patterns, the grooves. Especially the discovery of necessary needed width and depth for cutting. cube size 50mm x 50mm

The third prototypes serve for making final decisions. Each board owns diverse depth and width of grooves. For gaining the best working result, it was important to create big moduls and cut on it. cube size 100mm x 100mm

Final Product A modular cutting board. Crafted out of four different boards in one standard size. Each board owns a surface based on standard food sizes. A creation of various patterns to support the cutting process.

Picnic

A cutting board is an underrated everyday item. For someone, it is just a plank of board. Day by day it is used for cutting food. No attention is being paid on the actual object. Because it all makes sense and it works by itself. The history of the cutting board is largely unknown. It has always been there. My attempt for this project was to spice it all a bit up. Creating a cutting board dedicated to a specific purpose and task. After having realized four different cutting boards and using them, it was interesting to see what was actually cutted on each board. And the boards were not only used for cutting, also for placing other food or drinks. These cutting boards created a space for different things. Despite the individuality of each one, it was a board for everything.
