Dr.CandiceMcQueenbeganhertenureasLipscomb University’s18thpresidentinSeptember2021.Shehas morethan25yearsofexperienceineducationspanning classroomteaching,highereducationleadership,state governmentandnonprofitsectors.

Inherfirstthreeyearsinoffice,McQueensetrecords includingwelcomingLipscomb’slargestthreeclassesof newstudentsandoverseeingthethreelargestgiving daysinuniversityhistory McQueenalsolauncheda compellingnewstrategicplan,startedanewPresident’s StudentAdvisoryCouncil,broughtbackbelovedstudent traditionslikeBeautifulDay,andopenedthenewCenter forVocationalDiscovery. Shewasalsorecentlynamed MostAdmiredCEObytheNashvilleBusinessJournal.

PriortoherappointmentatLipscomb,McQueenwasCEO oftheNationalInstituteofExcellenceinTeaching,a nationalnonprofitfoundedbytheMilkenEducation Foundationtoencourageandincentivizeteaching excellenceinstates,districts,universitiesandclassrooms acrossthecountry.FromJanuary2015-January2019, McQueenservedasTennesseeCommissionerofEducationunderformerTennesseeGov.BillHaslam.

Beforebecomingthestate’stopeducationofficial,McQueenservedLipscombUniversityasdeanof theuniversity’sCollegeofEducationandasseniorvicepresident,whichincludedoversightof LipscombAcademy,theinstitution’s1,300-studentpreK2-12thgradecollegepreparatoryschool She joinedLipscomb’seducationfacultyinAugust2001,risingtochairoftheundergraduateeducation departmentbeforeherappointmentasdeanofthecollegein2008 Underherleadership,McQueen ledthecollegethroughtremendousgrowthandtostateandnationalrecognitionforexcellencein teacherpreparationandteachingoutcomes.ShewasalsothefoundingdirectorofLipscomb’sAyers InstituteforTeacherLearningandInnovationthatlaunchedin2012.
