District Governor - Lion James Mathers January has been a busy month during which I will have visited eight Lions clubs and presented a host of long-service chevrons, which only arrived from Oak Brook at the very end of November. In October I had to halt visits to Lions clubs since my cataracts were making driving at night quite difficult. Having now had both eyes resolved, there has been much catching up to be done. Out of the stocks immediately after New Year, Lion Gail and I travelled to Glastonbury & Street Lions for a very interesting evening and where I had the opportunity to present to Lion Ian Burt a 50-year long-service chevron and certificate signed by our patron. Ian was initially a Leo, which counts towards his long service, and held the position of MD Leo Council Chair. There is, however, a distinct disadvantage of attending this club – its location close to Clarkes Village where inevitably your wallet is significantly lighter when you leave. The following week was a bit of a marathon, beginning with Tavistock, followed by Seaton & District and then Radstock and Midsomer

Norton. Tavistock is a strong club in terms of its membership and involvement with the local community. Here, I was able to distribute newly created pins celebrating mission 1.5 to both new members and sponsors. I was also able to present several long-service chevrons, including 35 years to Lion Richard Jones and 45 years to Lion Steve
